Thats a good and a bad advice for a total newbie
No matter which miner he's going to scans, virustotal will find at least 5 false positives. So every miner looks dangerous.
Just make sure to download the miner from the official announce threads / official posts. Those should be safe.

tried solo mining, but coudn't get work from server...this never happened before...., it's the first time i mine this algo. Any ideas?

I don't understand how they got from a totally working coin, and wallet, that was started earlier than they liked by one pool yesterday....to not ready at all, and no wallet...after 30 straight hours of work.
Not trying to be rude here, really not, just some sort of explanation beyond 'need sleep' would be cool considering the IPO here.

And hashing.at has ridiculously high payout fees...mined all night, have 304 confirmed pi and fee is 314...i dont even have enough to pay for the payout.

Sorry man... you shoulda jumped in at the first second of the launch to get anything worthwhile with that hash-rate.
Might want to consider at least getting a 7850 from Newegg on Ebay... they had refurbished ones for $140-$150 shipped.
Mining with my 6 year old hd4800...but i'm going to upgrade soon.
I was mining 3-5 minutes after launch. Also have 1.3k unconfirmed, but 314 pi would still be 1/6 of my total.

Why is this already released, the countdown timer shows 10 more minutes. Whats the purpose of a timer if it's not globally the same?
