As an early operator in the crypto space, this takes me way back! Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I still remember getting a bunch of Bitcoin, Litecoin and Namecoin stickers that I bought from someone here on bitcointalk, and to think now that there were only 3 cryptocurrencies back then is pretty crazy. Namecoin came before Litecoin, I think, but not by much.


Back then Namecoin had some utility, but not much traction. It was definitely the first real altcoin, and then when Litecoin came along it brought with it the parallels of Bitcoin being like gold, and Litecoin being like silver. What people really appreciated about it though was the ease of mining, and the utility of Litecoin's faster transactions. I have to say, I do miss those days a little!

Are bets provably fair?

Of course! SatoshiDICE pioneered provably fair gaming back in 2012!

In order to ensure that there is no way for the system to change the outcome of a bet, the secret keys used are decided ahead of time. They are not released right away, since they could be used to submit selective transactions and win bets unfairly. However, the hash of the secrets is released and forever recorded in the blockchain. After the secrets are release users can verify that preceding bets were provably fair.

Each bet transaction that comes in is assigned to the secret key of the current day when it is first processed. In most cases this will be as soon as the transaction is broadcast on the bitcoin network. However it could be later if the system has some problems processing or an outage. All times are in UTC (GMT).

Is the original SatoshiDICE gone?

Nope! We're still the original SatoshiDICE, we're just running on BCH due to historical and occasional congestion on the BTC blockchain. This congestion unfortunately made it impossible to play SatoshiDICE as we originally designed it.

Pro Tip:  The game works extra well with Badger Wallet

Coins.ph is a great service,  but it isn't a wallet.
It is more like a bank account where they control the money for you,  but they also have to do whatever the government tells them to do with your money.
SatoshiDice highly recommends using an actual Bitcoin Cash wallet that puts you in charge of your own Bitcoin Cash.
