Bitcoin Foundation Receives Cease and Desist from California

Directly following last month’s Bitcoin 2013 conference event in San Jose, CA that brought decent revenue into the state, California’s Department of Financial Institutions decided to issue a cease and desist warning to conference organizer Bitcoin Foundation for allegedly engaging in the business of money transmission without a license or proper authorization.

Scroll the embedded copy of the letter down for some entertaining incompetence. I especially enjoyed the copy/paste third-party webpage complete with Google adds for attorneys and an executive search firm "Don't have a CFO?"

It would be funnier if I wasn't paying these bumblefucks with my tax dollars.

Since it's not dealing with sensitive stuff, do you mind telling us a little bit about the build, like are you using blockchain.info or something on the backend or running your own bitcoind (duh, like bitcoind would have given you the price, not sure what I was thinking.)? What's the platform/framework?

Awesome stuff, Wonko. And like the other posters said, fast as hell.

This looks like alot of fun. I had been interested in node.js, but haven't had a project for it. I also apparently need alot of help in my market research.

No way of knowing for sure until he either responds or moves the balance. If not, then that would just add to the story. But you make a good point. No one else should tip him until we know.

Maybe every Lazlo Pizza day we should celebrate by tipping Lazlo the current equivalent of that original value in BTC? That seems like a great way to say thanks for having the guts to kick-off a whole economy. I'll start by tipping for last month.

Sent 0.41 BTC(a little extra but the number was too cool to pass up)

If you can't afford the full amount make it 0.041  or even 0.0041 or whatever the equivalent is each year.

Maybe someday someone can laugh at me for tipping Lazlo an outrageous amount. Smiley

I think it's rather bland. My design skills are limited so I shoot for maximum usability.

The look is simple and functional. I like that too, but I was more referring to the logic and implementation, it's elegant and clean. I just appreciate the level of focus and clear thinking that takes.

Coinrollit is disgusting like the rest of gambling sites.. All made to take your money.

Disgusting is a very strong word. A site that clearly states the percentage it will make and backs that up with this amount of documentation is alot more honest than the many "legitimate" businesses out there. How many businesses are about convincing someone to pay more than they should, or to buy something they don't really need or want? A gaming site honestly provides the ingredient listed on the tin--entertainment.

Just wanted to post and say the site is a thing of beauty. I especially appreciate all the work on transparency and the custom game slider. That's just brilliant.

I'm working on building a simple skill game in my downtime, but your work makes me want to pack up my toys and go home.  Cheesy

Thanks for looking into it so fast. Whatever you did to clear the old transaction worked and the second attempt went through.

Is there a server outage or problem about now?
I made a transaction at 5:11 Pacific time (for 0.40950000) and an hour later it's still unconfirmed.
The transaction doesn't show up in block explorer.
The app seems to think it's talking to the server just fine and I'm not having any network trouble.

t bitcoin changed his life for him personally, he can never go back to the point where he started off.

Ah. Thank you for clarifying. I'm just a little dense sometimes.

Whatever else eventually comes from bitcoin, it certainly has already created some really new and interesting experiences for a great many people, and stimulated alot of thought and creativity.

Haven't you read his last post here ?  He donated a lot of them to wikileak and he's still active on the new currency TimeCoin.

Yes I did. I don't understand your point. I was talking about options, not suggesting knightmb not participate however he/she chooses.

But with regards to Bitcoin things will never go back to normal for you.

Not entirely true. Worst case he/she can always burn the knightmb identity. Even Satoshi is/are probably still hanging around here somewhere.

Any ideas?
ScriptGadget, you hit the server at a bad time, while I was doing an upgrade. Everything should be in place now. Once I get server redundancy this should not happen again.

Working great!

Thanks for the quick fix. I used my bright shiny new BTC balance to send you a small donation. As I use the app, I'll send more.

Thanks for a all the hard work.

Trying out bitcoin spinner for the first time. Installed on a Nexus 7 (jelly bean) and tried to send a bitcoin to the wallet a few hours ago.  I briefly saw The BTC in "coins on their way to you" then they disappeared. I show a 0 balance and no coins on the way.
BTCbalance.net shows the correct balance for the address 1BTC.

The address is: 152U2YVT27mWTbnDT5XnWxeGSjmr2Dk9e5

Any ideas?

Youll have to wait till someone is selling their shares.  Smiley

Looks like there are some shares for sale for the moment.

You could be right Abe.  I guess I just have more faith in common sense, that people wouldn't rate down a newbie just for asking a commonly asked question.

The thing about sense is that it's far from common. Smiley

I like the idea of rating posts rather than people, but it's likely to spin out of control either way. Remember when /. first started moderation? They had to add meta moderation to help balance the crazies and the cranks. It works better now, but it took a long time and is still a little questionable.

+1 to the idea of tying it to the OTC Web of Trust. It takes work to vote there.
