A Bitcoin legal defense fund is a better place to start. Your OP addresses people's right to use their computers to participate in the bitcoin network, a la possessing, transferring, and mining bitcoin. That right is not under any sort of imminent threat of regulation, so no lobbying is necessary.
There soon will be a "poster child" case made out by a U.S. attorney or state D.A. somewhere when some stupid college kid buys an ounce of coke with bitcoin and gets busted. A Legal defense fund could help pay for his defense. But the mainstream public face of the bitcoin community will be "Hang him high"
because it is in the best interest of bitcoin's survival in the mainstream as a real currency to appear cooperative with law enforcement.
However, lobbying certainly makes sense for a business like mtgox (Japanese-owned currency exchange) or silkroad that deals with exchanging bitcoin for other goods, services. Now that the "press" has "hit the fan" and the word "Bitcoin" has publicly passed a prominent senator's lips, scrutiny and potential regulation will fall on these two organizations first. These companies would do well to spend a significant portion of their profits on a lobbying firm to prevent legislation that would cripple their business model.

I think Mt Gox and the like should spend some money on incorporating and getting a financial license if it already doesn't. Then get some Terms of
Service on the site. Sacrificing a bit of anonymity might be necessary to protect BitCoin.
Idea is pretty simple. I give you bitcoins. You invest/day trade with them. You take 25% of the profit/loss. Would anyone do this? it's a good way day traders can make some money.
Sounds like a good way to get scammed. Whats to stop scammers from trading with your bitcoins, then telling you they lost money. Or whats to stop them from sharing the profits, and then disappearing when there are losses to share?
Or go through a trusted middleman and get both parties ID-ed. I know this would kill the anonymity
but this isn't the situation that you'd want that I suppose anyway.
That way if they run off they can still be held accountable.
i' d say 2012 or later, but i hope by then bitcoin is seen as a Currency, not as a speculation or a 'money laundering'
I am really looking forward to this as well, and I'm certain that it will happen, and perhaps only after a
huge market crash. Until then the price goes up though! I don't think BitCoin will do too well as a
money laundering utility once some legal trusted BitCoin companies pop up.

I'm writing here today on behalf of the Global BitCoin Consortium.
We are currently looking for potential BitCoin-oriented businesses to list.
I'm just poking around to see if there is anyone interested in listing stocks or managed funds with us.
We will be beginning service at the start of July this year.
This service will introduce our "TIP" product; Trade, Invest, Protect.
It will feature a payment processor and such, but the emphasis for now is integration of BitCoin into business,
facilitated by making it easier for investors and businesses in the BTC sphere to come together. All a business
will need is a solid business plan and a BTC address.

I really don't care about the GUI, it's the API that I'll be adding into my web site that I'm most worried about...
Just a GUI to show it's functions would be appreciated.
As for ClearCoin, It'll take me a few days until I will have any BTC; I live in NZ so I'm waiting for funds to arrive in Australia and then
I will be able to buy some through MtGox. If you can take my word for it then get going, but otherwise I'll escrow the BTC ASAP,
this will probably be next Tuesday or Wednesday NZ time. Time is not too important for me as yet so if you want then just wait
it out.

How would you be at writing a C# BitCoin client though? I don't have the time to write one myself but am definitely looking for
something like this to implement on my site.
You won't need to test it too much, I can do that... just get a prototype with commented source code ready.

The exchange fees can really be thought as as a "Buy-In" fee.
There are no obligations to pay any fees once you have actually obtained your BTC.
It's the same with all currency mind-you, just go on holiday and suffer the great FX fees!
