Re: Bitcoin version 0.6.0 released

Consider the wall at 4.6 to be the declared capability of buying equivalent of $200k bitcoins. Even if the wall disappears.

No reason to go away from $4-5 range unless someone big enters the game.

Mt Gox sells tainted coins then locks your account for having them.
No that I'm protecting MtGox but are you sure it was all about tainted coins and not something else?

2. 43K is the actual loss from the heist, and another 43K that he's giving back to his customers, he takes a double hit.
Have there been any loss taken by Bitcoinica?
Have anyone found that 43K transaction (set of transactions)?
Why would they use VPS for storing such amount?
Isn't it much safer to rent/setup physical server?
Couldn't it be easier to declare huge loss for promotion?

Are you still sure there was any actual loss?

I wish luck to Zhou but I have more questions than answers on this situation.

BIG move up coming.
Market is very thin. Indicators show what might happen but that doesn't mean it will happen.
Market needs a fresh blood to move up high. Speculation only is probably not enough, more media coverage is needed.

We are not making any money. And it seems like it won't change for the next few months.
But we consider Bitcoin services worth to invest in. And we will be giving further support to IMCEX exchange and related projects.

Re: The problem of stolen coins
by
Sergey (imcex.com)
on 03/03/2012, 13:18:33 UTC
I'm going to say some things that you might not like - I definitely don't like this idea but...
As time passes by - more and more people get interested in Bitcoins, more and more thefts will happen. If we start marking Bitcoins as 'dirty' - some time later we will have almost 99% of the coins being marked as bad.

What should an average Bitcoin user do if 99% if his income is 'dirty'? Is he actually responsible for some event that had happened long before he even got to know what Bitcoin is?

Tracing stolen coins and returning them back to the owner is good at first or second step of transacting those coins. And only if you are 100% sure that previous owner lost them and current owner have stolen them.

As it have been said previously - money is money. Community should try to block theives but we shouldn't go absolutely crazy about it. And I think that community should accept this concept as default. This will be hard to do - exactly as it is hard for someone to accept Bitcoin as the completely new paradigm. But if we don't do this now - we will arrive to that point anyway: Bitcoin stands for new opportunities but it also brings new problems. And people will have to learn to live with them.

zhoutong, I do appreciate what your are doing for the community. This is a hell of responsibility your are taking, good job.

But, please, explain me - how could you be keeping the whole bunch of Bitcoins in a single wallet running on the VPS (!!!) in the wild? Having $200,000-250,000 worth customers' funds would make me invest my own money in renting dedicated server at least. Or two. Considering even this not being totally secure - it still would provide much more security at $50/month cost.

But hell, who cares about security at $50/month! Being a hero at $200 grands is much more effective!

We have some pretty big stuff in the pipeline.

It would be great, if you could publish some kind of roadmap. I understand that having little resources you got to make decisions between optimizing backend stuff and improving the frontend, but the priorities are not very obvious to other users (beta-testers).

What I suggested in the last post - is the smallest bit of information that will help me decide whether it is worth using bitp.it for my own sites and where the bottlenecks are.

Currently, I can only guess how effective this whole thing is Smiley

So, please, roadmap of the upcoming features would be useful to keep patience Smiley

We are going to roll out even more stats this evening.

Good job, guys! Thank you! Now, proceeding to level 2 Smiley

Feature requests:
1. Some techsupport email or jabber to discuss personal issues in case of need

2. Stats columns:
- khashes per Last Day
- khashes this round
- script requests per Hour
- effectiveness = khashes this round / script requests this round (this will show how effective an average visitor for this site is)

3. Sorting by domain name/selected column. I guess client javascript sort will be a good solution.

4. Totals row - totals for each column where applicable, duplicate the row before and after the table.

Thank you in advance.

Also, we will soon add support for a configurable siteId parameter which will let you track your sites separately while collecting shares on one account.

1. Would be great if bitp could collect refering domain names automatically and group stats according to domains. It would be useful for people, running bitp.it running at multiple sites.

Concerning average rate: average rate is per 100 request as far as I remeber. Could you please recalculate it into avg per second? (hour, day, etc...)

Also, I vote for all the requests from mosimo Smiley
