Nihaomike wins by default!  Send a bitcoin address.  If anyone wants to post a more complete answer that actually attempts to answer all the questions, I will send more bounty money, depending on how good I rate the answer, up to $50.

ASIC and video card recommendations ($30 to best answer)
by

I will pay $30 to whoever has written the best answer by noon EST on June 26.  I will also consider paying something to runners up if they provide additional good info.

1) What are some good options for ASIC miners to buy, used or new?  I have free electricity and therefore only care about price/TH, not power efficiency.  I am mainly interested in non-bitmain miners because I don't want to support Jihan, but competitive bitmain options should also be listed.  Focus is on Bitcoin miners, but if Litecoin or Sia or any other ASIC is currently way more profitable, I'd like to know about it.  Which coins can be mined with ASICs either currently or in the near future?

2) I am about to build a new computer to play games on my Vive.  What video card (and processor if those still mine anything well) should I include in my build in order to mine crypto when I am not gaming, with my free electricity?  What are the best coins to mine currently, and is there a website that will tell me what is most profitable to mine right now?  What kind of hash rates and profitability can I get with your recommended video card?  I don't want to spend a lot of time screwing around with configuring crashy miners, like I had to when I mined several years ago.

In addition to plugging the hash rate into a calculator at current difficulty, based on your past experience or math, please estimate a few different scenarios of how profitability might change based on future price action and more mining power coming online.

Usually this service works within a half hour for me.  Every once in a while it takes half a day.

This service solves privacy and security issues.  In Costa Rica, cell provider Movistar does not even encrypt the payment page where you enter credit card information to add credit to your phone number.

Good to see you are back now.  Your fees are high, but way lower than the only other option at mobileshop.ph, who charges like 28%.

Use mobileshop.ph instead since spend-a-bit is gone

UPDATE:  piiko.com is back in business now, and has way lower fees than mobileshop.ph

What happened to this service?  It just says "application offline for maintenance" whether I go to Piiko.com or spend-a-bit.com.  it's been this way for a couple weeks.

There is a ridiculous amount of action going on in London.  As of May 30th, the city will have the most bitcoin ATM's in the world, and these conferences are coming up:

2014-05-27  Digital Money 2014
2014-06-11  PayExpo
2014-06-18  Boatcoin Expo
2014-07-01  WIRED Money
2014-07-10 CoinSummit
2014-09-15  Inside Bitcoins

Thank you, Bruno, Rassah and the rest of you, for keeping this up and running!
After the excitement and novelty some years ago, now is the time for stamina and commitment.
Thank you for keeping this rolling!

ALso, I noted there seems to be a shift here. The organisations contacting BTC100 often already know Bitcoin, and already love Bitcoin. It does sound like they only hesitate to put a Bitcoin donation option online to first grab that fat donation from BTC100.
It used to be the opposite, us contacting NGOs who never heard of Bitcoin, and providing an incentive to opt in.
Is it time for readjusting?

Ente

Has anyone considered merging with BitGive?  They are way better at getting publicity.  We obviously can't use the funds the way they do (converting to cash and directly giving cash to charities), but I'm sure some arrangement could be figured out.

I thought my idea to pay Curtis from Bitcoin Bigfoot $100/charity to cold call them and get new signups was really good, and I was kind of surprised that no one else offered to donate.  Perhaps this thread just isn't getting much traffic anymore since it was moved out of the main forum.

It would be awesome if you guys can possibly add the UK and the Netherlands by the time the conferences come to town.  Amsterdam is next week, and London is in July

The best place to do currency conversion is at Thomas Exchange on Maddox Street in Mayfair.   They are (as of June 4th) buying USD at 171.6 when the spot rate is 167.48, for a conversion cost of under 2.5%.  If you convert over £5,000 the rate dips to 1.5%.  Everywhere else is a complete rip off.

Private car service Wheely used to accept bitcoin, but recently removed the option.  Uber works, but it is barely any faster and way more expensive than the underground.

Unfortunately, the UK is not supported yet for mobile phone top up at piiko.com, but perhaps by the time the conference rolls around they will be added to the 100+ countries supported.

The best way to avoid getting killed on roaming charges while you're here is to order a prepaid UK SIM card to your house before you come, and pop it into your phone once you get here.  You can add credit on them easily.  Examples:

Where can I exchange USD, bitcoin, or 1oz gold coins for Euros at the best rate?
Cash? Shouldn't be too hard. Just find a bitcoiner who wants to buy some btc.

My experience at conferences has been all the attendees are trying to sell bitcoin for local currency at the start of the conference, and then trying to buy back at the end with their extra cash, so it's not as easy as it seems.

Are there any taxis or other transport options that accept bitcoin in Amsterdam?

Is there any way to load phone credit with bitcoin there?  piiko.com does not support the Netherlands yet.

Folks, I was talking to the founder of BitcoinBigfoot about our problem with giving away money.  He has tons of experience with direct sales and cold calling people, and he says if we offer him an incentive of $100 per charity signup, he could get all our money given away pretty quickly.

Obviously, we can't use any of the bitcoin100 funds for the incentive, so we need to raise new money for that.  I will contribute $500.  At current exchange rates, we would need to raise $6300 to get it all donated.  Who else is in?  What are your thoughts on this plan?

Your web addresses aren't redirecting properly.  I thought your site had been offline for the last few days because I was using the address that my browser auto-completed.
