Re: Transaction disappeared, and bitcoins disappeared.

Ok so I did Reset Blockchain and Transactions 10 times and didn't work.  My bitcoins were still gone and no trace of the transaction.

So I finally had to export all my private keys to a file and put it in Excel.   But guess what...The Private key export doesn't link the Public Key to the Private Key so I had 200 Private keys and no way to figure out which matched up to my missing
BTC...nice, job Multibit !

So I just had to try them one by one in Blockchain and eventually I found the right one and was able to sweep my bitcoin into Blockchain.info.

It is absurd and inexcusable that my 7.17 BTC was sitting in that address, CLEARLY on the blockchain, yet Multibit would not let me access it or even let me know they were there or what address they were under.

Anyway bottom line is..

Goodbye Multibit !   I will find some other software that actually works and doesn't try to destroy $3500 of my funds.

Transaction disappeared, and bitcoins disappeared.

I just sent 7.17 BTC from Multibit to my blockchain.info acct.  I put in the pw in Multibit and it says something like:

"The bitcoins were sent successfully.  It is unknown how many peers have seen it"

That is paraphrasing but pretty close.

In the Transactions list, there is a triangle icon by the transaction and the BTC never shows up in my Blockchain acct.

So I do Reset Blockchain and Transactions three times in Multibit and it is not showing either the transaction or the missing BTC.   I don't know how that's possible...either they are there or they were sent somewhere.

But of course my question is how do I get them back?  How long can they be stuck in nowhere?  I have about 200 receiving addresses in Multibit, so do I need to check every one of them on the blockchain and find out where the BTC is and then export my private key to recover them or what?

Thank for you any help..

I had this happen yesterday. It said "seen by one peer" and had square icon in Multibit and never went to circle.  It never appeared on the blockchain and then a couple of hours later, it disappeared completely from multibit when I reset the blockchain and transactions.

I couldn't tell you for sure, but, if you'd like an alternative wallet that doesn't have to download the blockchain, you might want to check out Electrum.

Thank you for the tip.  My blockchain is taking up something like 7GB on my PC and I am almost out of space on my hard drive. I'm going to uninstall what's there and go with a new wallet.

Why would someone who bought one of these want to sell shares?  Why wouldn't they just use it themselves and keep all the profits?

Re: How could micropayments work?
by
ShakerRaiders87
on 20/04/2013, 07:09:59 UTC

I was surprised to learn Bitcoin is not really for micro payments. The fee right now is .0005 which is 6 cents.
That would be ~ 50 cents if the price got to $1000

Are there any ideas how to 1) add another layer to bitcoin , to allow for micropayments (perhaps a 2nd network)
or 2) an altoghter different coin, that is only used for penny-sized transactions?

I never thought of that but it's a good point.  I always wished there was something that could be processed quickly and would be good for micropayments.  Maybe Ripple will make this succeed although to doubt it considering everyone else has failed.

Yes I would definitely store it offline.  Just make a backup of course and also you can print out a paper backup of some wallets like Armory. I'm not sure how it works but something like that.  Good luck.

XRP price is all over the place today....very wild market !

Indeed, it is. XRP rate was 200K per 1 btc just a week ago.

Yes XRP seemed to have peaked (temporarily at least) yesterday morning. Now it seems to be going down slowly, which is a good time to sell, imo.

Re: BitCoin for paypal?
by
ShakerRaiders87
on 20/04/2013, 05:37:49 UTC
Careful, folks.  PayPal is notorious for its use in scamming.

PayPal = chargeback.
Bitcoin = no chargeback.

So if someone paid you in PayPal, got Bitcoin, they could dispute it with PayPal and get their money back; there's no way to get Bitcoin back.

Not saying OP is attempting this.  Just be careful.

If you send Paypal payment as a "gift", then I doubt you can dispute it and do a chargeback on it.  Go that route and avoid the rest.

The rates are so different at different websites too that it's tough to figure it out at times.
