La caída que estamos viendo, se debe a la penetración de ASIC en la economía y de la migración de mineros a LiteCoin.
¿¡Qué tiene que ver el número de mineros con el valor de la moneda!? El valor de la moneda lo da el equilibrio entre la gente que quiere comprarla y la gente que quiere venderla. Y eso no tiene nada que ver con el número de mineros (salvo que este sea tan escaso que haya un sentimiento de pánico por un posible ataque a la red).
Además, la tasa de hash no hace más que crecer. Eso casa mal con la migración de mineros.

How about using ECC point multiplication and AES:
1. Get recipient's public key R (R = r*G, r is private key)
2. For each message, generate unique keypair S,s: S = s*G.
3. Create a shared secret: K = R*s
4. Compute 256-bit encryption key out of that shared secret: key = SHA256(SHA256(K))
5. Encrypt the message with that key and send the message together with unique pubkey S.
6. Recipient gets the message and computes key using his private key r and S: key = SHA256(SHA256(r*S))
7. Recipient's key turns out to be the same because r*S = R*s = r*s*G.
I like this scheme more because it allows to efficiently encrypt messages of arbitrary sizes.

It's OK but:
1) There is no need of doubling SHA256 to obtain the symmetric key. SHA256^2 is a bitcoinish thing that does not improve the security of SHA256. In fact, there is no need of SHA256. Take "Kx" as symmetric key and it's ok.
2) It is better to use "S" as the shared secret and send "K" to the recipient. She can get the secret "S" as S = r^(-1) * K. This way, you can send the same encrypted message to many recipients: just create the K1, K2, K3, etc, pubkeys for de recipient's keys R1, R2, R3, etc

Ahí sí que te pasas. Mis cuentas me dan que, con la dificultad actual, 5 Ghs dan para ~ 0,16 BTC/mes, unos 15 al precio actual. Tienes un margen de 8-10 de beneficio para amortizar el jalapeño... en ese mes. Porque el siguiente la dificultad habrá aumentado mínimo un 50%.
No salen cuentas de ningún modo.
Salen 3.95BTC con la dificultad actual no 0.16... pero el caso es que no lo vas a recibir mañana, ni la semana que viene, mas bien para octubre...o en adelante...

Well, I think it's awfully early to project that. All we know for sure is that we increased 28% and then 24%. I would be pretty surprised to see an increase under 10%, though it's possible. We've averaged ~18% for a few months, so a reversion to the mean wouldn't be too surprising. That said, it sure seems like Avalon batch 2/3 will be shipping for awhile, and BFL keeps ramping up shipping. No sign that ASICMINER is slowing their deployment either. The ASIC wave is still building!
There should be a small slow down trend when GPUs disconnect. Mine are switched off since 2~3 weeks. Perhaps actually around 50 TH/s are due to GPUs still working.

Están bien los cálculos. Pero tienes que añadir el consumo del ordenador que pongas a minar. Lo más barato sería la Raspberry Pi, que consume unos 4 W extra.
