The Bitcoin ledger is stored on the internet, not the wallet.  If the internet was working at the time the sender sent the funds to the address created from your seed words and the transaction was successfully entered into the block chain ledger then you will have control of those funds once you restore your seed words to a wallet with an internet connection.

Yes, it serves as two functions but all in a single file which is usable by OpenKeyChain.

Thanks for the link to spesmilo.

My P.C broke down so no longer able to verify Electrum with Kleopatra unless I buy a P.C just for this purpose.

However I use Electrum on Android and the Android app called OpenKeyChain
can read a signed SHA256SUMS.asc but not the two file method Kleopatra uses.  So if Electrum developers read this then why not give this an option for Android users to download next to the Electrum APK files.

Now some would say I could get it from GooglePlay but I prefer to check the signature myself prior to installing Electrum.

Problem resolved.

"Passwords and Keys" did not allow a high enough trust level to be set.  The Terminal commands did.  Smiley

Think I found the answer, I was using the wrong command.  Should have been edit, not lsign-key.  Will test the following tomorrow.

gpg --edit-key 1234567890ABCDEF

type:   fpr
Displays the key’s fingerprint

Type:    trust.

1 = I don't know or won't say
  2 = I do NOT trust
  3 = I trust marginally
  4 = I trust fully
  5 = I trust ultimately
  m = back to the main menu

Type   save    to exit after setting.

Thanks for the replies,  I know quite a bit about Electrum private key, public keys, spending and storage in air gapped or hardware wallets etc,  I just need to know how to trust a public key in Electrum on Linux Mint v22

I copied these 2 files to the Downloads folder of Linux Mint v22
electrum-4.5.8-x86_64.AppImage
electrum-4.5.8-x86_64.AppImage.asc

Then entered these commands in the terminal

gpg --lsign-key 6694D8DE7BE8EE5631BED9502BD5824B7F9470E6

gpg --verify ~/Downloads/electrum-4.5.8-x86_64.AppImage.asc

gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature!
gpg:          There is no indication that the signature belongs to the owner.
Primary key fingerprint: 6694 D8DE 7BE8 EE56 31BE  D950 2BD5 824B 7F94 70E6

So I have trusted the ID in "Passwords and Keys" and in the terminal but still have the warning of not certified with a trusted signature.   Huh
.

Using Public Keys on Linux Mint

I imported the 3 electrum public keys into seahorse ("Passwords and Keys") on Linux mint v22 and copied the electrum .exe file and .asc file to the desktop.

I can't get the .asc to verify with the.exe file.  On windows it was simple as you just click the .asc file and Kleopatra would check whether the public key matched.  However I want to migrate to Linux.  How to do this on Linux mint with a GUI.  I can right click the files but no option to verify the imported public key to the files?

Plan in advance when there's are low Bitcoin fees by pegging into the Bitcoin Liquid wallets app Sideswap then top up an existing lightning wallet channel with cheaper fees which can be done via boltz.exchange Liquid BTC to Lightning BTC.

With Electrum Software I can verify the developers signatures before signing a transactions.  I can't do this with Trezor, I have to hope the Trezor firmware is not compromised.  How is this achieved?

Good to know electrum will support 24 seed words and pass phrase via bip 39 option for Trezor.
May I ask what the end-goal is?
Let's say you create your seed with Trezor, what are you planning to do next? Are you planning on importing your seed into Electrum? If your Trezor stops working one day, will you buy another hardware wallet or import your seed into Electrum?

I keep my Bitcoin air gapped as I think it's safer than on Trezor that requires regular firmware updates..  The Trezor wallet is only for smaller amounts as quicker to sign a transaction.  Yes I will buy another Trezor should it fail, but I like knowing the seed words and pass phrase also work on an air gapped Electrum wallet.

I should have mentioned it's a Trezor model One.

Electrum seed words on Trezor Hardware Wallet

I bought a Trezor hardware wallet..  I read in a previous post I should generate the seed words in Trezor for use in electrum. Trezor only allows me to generate 24 word seeds which may not be future compatible with electrum wallet.

Am I correct in thinking that Trezor wallet will be fully future compatible with electrum wallet if I create the 12 word seed and passphrase in electrum wallet and  use it in Trezor.  I would do this air gapped.

How would I consolidate small funded addresses on Android Electrum?  I don't see an option to select and spend from 2 or more addresses.

Concerned about small amount of btc left on electrum addresses as the mining fee costs rise in the long run.
Am I correct in thinking that if I spend more than the amount on the small funded address so it also comes of the larger funded address that the mining fee will still stay low.

I'm assuming that Electrum spends fund from the smallest funded addresses first.  Is that correct.

Re: How do I import the copied text transaction
by
Sidney986
on 19/07/2023, 18:30:45 UTC
Now, there is no option on android electrictrum to save as a file.  I can copy the text and put it in a txt file but what should I name the extention and will it work if imported as a file.
You can save the copied text onto a txt file or none, the important thing is the contents.
And send it to your offline Electrum, open the file "as text" or open using a text editor app and then copy its contents.

Is the offline Electrum also Android?
If so, you can import it via "Send->Paste", then you can proceed to sign and broadcast the transaction.
If Desktop, use "Tools->Load transaction->from text".

Thanks  I use tails to sign offline. I will past the text to a .txt file and try importing it.

When I issued a report on GitHub about the QR scanning error message,  I was told "if the data won't fit in a qr code, then it won't fit."

So how would I make it fit?   Why have the option to scan a QR code that won't fit?

Re: Missing addresses from imported master public key
by
Sidney986
on 19/07/2023, 18:14:20 UTC
When those first 20 addresses are used, Electrum generates the next batch of 20 addresses, and so on.
This is not true. It's not that electrum generates new addresses after all first 20 addresses are used.
Electrum generates the 21st address once  you use the first address, the 22nd address, once you use the second address and so on.

So true.  I checked my android wallet today and have extra addresses despite not using all of them.

Android version has one of my wallets only displaying two thirds of the amount.  I know it's wrong as windows version shows it correctly as do blue wallet and green wallet.  Put a bug report in the GitHub page and the guy want more info.  I though it was explained.  Huh
