Reason why Merit should be distributed: Nigeria is probably one of Africa's largest bitcoin market. We need all it takes to pull more adoption, create awareness and at the same time prove that anonymous transactions can be ascertained. I did some brainstorm on how kiosk for Bitcoin Anonymity Transactions in Nigeria can work. In the meantime feel free to check other post in technical and other boards.

Public Kiosks for Bitcoin Anonymity Transactions in Nigeria

Nigeria, probably Africa's largest bitcoin market needs all it takes to pull more adoption, i,prove anonymous transactions and easy accessible ways to transact. I know this might be a bit risky but due to the concern of Bitcoin ATM requiring ID and phone number it makes anonymity ineffective. Now the idea is Bitcoin Kiosk owned by a private individual, no ID required, no phone number. Ill show you how i plan it will work, more ideas can come in.

First choose a precise and secured location.

The kiosks could be placed in urban centers, marketplaces and big industrial areas and GRA's. Hardware, solar power should be availlbale in case of unstable electricity in that area.

Transaction Pair

Cash/BTC: Pay in Naira and Bitcoin will be sent instantly using lightning network channels, coinjoin or any available mixer.
BTC/Cash: Send BTC to the kiosk address withdraw Naira after confirmation. Use Bitcoin wallet that supports automatic generation of new receiving addresses (sub-addresses) for improved privacy.
Voucher Exchange: Buy or redeem Bitcoin vouchers/codes.

Challenges

In the meantime there is no band against Crypto in Nigeria anymore but the government is still hostile toward crypto activities in Nigeria through regulations and enforcement. How we choose to name the kiosks will matter a lot, no emphasis should be made on "Crypto" or "ATM". P2P, Non-custodian and Anonymity transactions is appropriate.

FYI

1. Seller/operator does not see the buyer’s face.
2. Buyer does not see the seller’s face.
3. No surveillance cameras or face exposure.

How it is Done

a. Gloved Hand to ensure no contact. The operator wears a hoodie, sunglasses, mask, and gloves.

b. QR Code Boards, display or place a printed QR code (fresh address every time) on a wall or on a screen.

c. Assign yourself a non-personal phone number via apps like TextNow, MySudo, or a local burner SIM. Also make use of a nickname not your real name.

d. Two-Way Drop Box  and Locker System

f. Mask your voice   Speak behind a curtain or use a cheap voice scrambler app.

I am open to more suggestions.

BlackRock show concern; Says BTC Source Code Could Be Rendered Flawed

Yeah BlackRock Issues Bitcoin Warning, Says BTC Source Code Could Be Rendered ‘Flawed or Ineffective’ by Quantum Computing

BlackRock, which is the first ever successful Bitcoin ETF, now holds over 275,000 Bitcoins, through its shares Bitcoin Trust (IBTT). Recenyl they raised a concern that Bitcoin source code and cryptographic security could be broken, if not now but in the future by quantum computers which impose a huge risk to how large they hold Bitcoin. The concern is specifically on how fast quantum computers can advance.

Actually, everything (emails, banks, treasury, https website, messaging/privacy apps, VPN etc) will be rendered flawed or ineffective by quantum computing.

Forbes
Cointelegraph

The amended prospectus, filed on May 9, includes extensive details about how quantum computing advances could compromise Bitcoin’s cryptographic security.
As filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on May 9, 2025.
Quote
“…In the past, flaws in the source code for digital assets have been exposed and exploited, including flaws that disabled some functionality for users, exposed users’ personal information and/or resulted in the theft of users’ digital assets.

The cryptography underlying Bitcoin could prove to be flawed or ineffective, or developments in mathematics and/or technology, including advances in digital computing, algebraic geometry and quantum computing, could result in such cryptography becoming ineffective. In any of these circumstances, a malicious actor may be able to compromise the security of the Bitcoin network or take the Trust’s Bitcoin, which would adversely affect the value of the Shares. Moreover, the functionality of the Bitcoin network may be negatively affected such that it is no longer attractive to users,
thereby dampening demand for Bitcoin.

Even if another digital asset other than bitcoin were affected by similar circumstances, any reduction in confidence in the source code or cryptography underlying digital assets generally could negatively affect the demand for digital assets and therefore adversely affect the value of the Shares.

Moreover, because digital assets, including bitcoin, have been in existence for a short period of time and are continuing to develop, there may be additional risks in the future that are impossible to predict as of the date of this prospectus.”

For now, I would be more concerned about hackers infecting my computer than about quantum threats in the coming decades. While technology advances quickly, it does not progress as fast as we might think. Additionally, if I were wrong and a quantum computer capable of breaking SHA-256 were to emerge tomorrow, it would most likely be kept secret for national security purposes.

Bitcoin would be the least of their concerns, as all modern communications rely on rsa ,ecdsa and others encryption methods.

A QC capable of breaking communications would be the weapon that replaces nuclear weapons.
Bitcoin will definitely be a serious target.
The US states and big companies like Tesla, MSTR, and El Salvador have large bitcoin reserved. They would care deeply if quantum attacks becomes a threat. Imagine national reserves being stolen what will happen to the nations economy. If billions in Bitcoin is lost due to quantum theft, it will reduce the trust in digital assets globally.

Willing to lose some Sats just to get more

Yes like i said, i have been thinking of losing some sats now if it means i can get more in the long run. I am able to buy some fractions of Bitcoin, for privacy i wont tell the amount. I understand selling in a short while seem to be more of like getting quick profits but the case is different here. I want to sell a little sats here for investing in things that will help me earn more over time. More like a side hustle.

I don’t see it as losing sats. I see it as repositioning them. Sometimes you need to let go of a few now to control a lot more later. It feels more sensible to invest for long term not for short term. More reasons i am doing this is because i don't trust my job to last longer where i am working.

Re: Should we advocate for more merit source
by

on 09/05/2025, 23:29:55 UTC
Honestly I have taking some time to go across this our board and I have actually seen some posts wey make sense but did not receive any merit.
Let's be honest if person take out time to make good post and the post actually make sense it can serve as an encouragement to that person if they get at least a merit as a sign of recognition.

Cases like this was why I created the unmerited post thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5506090.320 because there are chances that I may not come across more than 30% of posts daily due to our activities. The thread was to serve as my third eyes for others to report unmerited good posts I missed, but the thread was turned into a spam reporting. It's locked till I find a solution to it.

Secondly - we have the activities, but unfortunately the post quality hasn't been the same, I barely come across good posts these days and sometimes I'm forced to rollover my monthly allocation.

Lastly, if the community starts giving out merits organically to good posts, we would have enough merits - the board generates average 600-800 sent Smerits per month. I generate 10-20 unmerited good posts on this board monthly without a single merit. I'm also affected. Lol  Grin

It's time you get some help or talk to someone to handle small tasks you can't do, like finding good posts each month to give merits, so you don't miss your duties. I see you have a lot going on. For instance Board moderator, LB merit source, Stake Sheriff and your own personal life too. Even if you don’t say it, it’s clear you need help.

Re: [UserScript] ACTUALLY ignore users: remove quotes from ignored users
by

First of all, this is a good initiative TryNinja. It looks simple but it's a powerful improvement to the forum experience. Being able to fully ignore users, including removing their quoted content, is a feature many members of the forum have wanted for years.

I think I might be the first to install this on my device, though I don’t have anyone to ignore at the moment.

I have one observations though; Why did you decide to replace the quote instead of completing removing the quote in the script below?

Instead of the Original

Code:
if (list.includes(authorMatch[1]) && quoteBody) {
  quoteBody.innerHTML = 'USER IS IGNORED';

I tried this as it removes the quote block completely

Code:
if (ignoreList.includes(authorMatch[1]) && quoteBody) {
quoteHeader.parentElement.remove();

I suppose the outcome would be the same, I happened to make an observation.

Re: US-China economy war + radical Trump = higher inflation + interest rates + war
by
Silentcursor
on 06/05/2025, 02:43:22 UTC
Mate, what I believe is that China is confident for some reasons against the US tariff war, which is that their greater part of economy depends largely on exports, right, and if the US imposes higher tariff rates on China, then mate, think about how many big companies that are built in China that are US-based, big example Apple factories, and some other big known brands. And imposing higher tariff rates on China will also mean that increased inflation rates in the US. What do you think? mate, this is just my point of view. CMIIW!

And your facts are also valid here, because these tariff wars will also affect the Chinese economy as well, as some days ago I was reading some news headlines that the Chinese economy is also collapsing badly. Maybe, this can be a reason that prompts both US and Chinese presidents to negotiate to get some good end points to settle this tariff war.
In war both sides will be hurt which means higher inflation (and generally worse economic conditions) in both countries and since this is a global war in other countries as well with varied degrees. We've already seen the inflation in US rise and millions of people protest against this war their president started!

As for China, those who are saying "it is collapsing" are the same people who were saying "Russian economy is collapsing in a month" over 3 years ago! That's just nonsense. Chinese economy will be hurt but it won't collapse. It would take a lot more than that to collapse it.

Additionally in my comment you quoted above from a year ago, I was talking about other countries that would join that war against China. But Trump went ahead and made the stupidest mistake by waging an economic war against almost the entire world which meant other countries that might have joined in US campaign not only didn't join that side, but instead they joined the Chinese side.
We even saw something nobody would have believed when Japan and South Korea got closer to China!!! Even Europe is getting closer to China and overall US is being isolated...
Trump's approach of imposing tariffs and expecting other nations to follow suit against China was indeed a stupid idea. His actions affected the global economy, the American cried over it too. The issue disrupted supply chains, increase cost of manufacturers, and led to higher prices for consumers. I can remember vividly over hundreds of producers from China were all over Tiktok spilling secrets on how most of the American companies relies on their supply of raw materials, sometimes finished products for refurbishing. The idea that a trade war would coerce China into submission underestimated the resilience and global integration of China's economy. Instead of weakening China, it prompted them to seek new partnerships and markets, further diminishing the intended impact of the tariffs Trump expected.

It seems Trump forget all China needed is more partnership. If the Americans decide not to do business with China, many other countries will sure choose China side because of their economical strength. I dont want to dive deeper into the aspect of the number of countries that are debtors to China till date. Their loans even in a decade time cannot be paid back fully.

You can point a gun on someone to stay with you temporarily, but their loyalty will ultimately go to where they find sustenance and growth. This is the current global situation, where nations are gravitating towards China, seeking stability and development.

Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL!
by

on 06/05/2025, 01:20:50 UTC
Our different targets will determine how aggressive we choose to invest and once you have achieved your investment target I think you should consider securing some profit to help reduce the risk of exposure to market volatility as risk management is also an important part of investment and one of the qualities a good investor.

As for me I don't think investing and accumulation ends, even after achieving my investment goal and probably taken profit I will just have to rebalance my portfolio and set a new target probably higher than the previous one and accumulation continues.
At that point some would consider diversifying into other investments. Our goals are different.

Targets are different for each person in question: some cash out earlier, some - they wait for other opportunities, but everybody should be certain that with BTC, any goal is reachable Wink
This response can be very misleading to people who don't understand the concept of setting goals before starting their investment. For an investor with a target you must have an effective goal that aligns with the target. From your statement you sound like an investor who is willing to sell at any point of profits. That will be a bad idea. It will be wrong if a new investor awaits a quick profit not too long he started his investment. The bigger profit in Bitcoin investment is long term plan. I don't mind the strategy used to in investing what really matter is how much can be accumulated and how long you kept it. There will always be a point where you can sell some part of your investment. But you need to wait for that time to come.

This thread is all about how you can use several investment method to your advantage. For example the DCA method, where you invest a fixed amount regularly, regardless of market fluctuations. This strategy can help reduce the impact of volatility and reduce the risk of making poorly timed investment decisions.

A long-term investment of 4 years to 15 years or more, an investor is not boarded about how the market goes either up or down, all he his focused on is how to buy more Bitcoin into his portfolio that will be beneficial to him in future .
You don't really have to wait for the dip before you invest more, just keep buying and accumulating in respective of how much Bitcoin is, and when the dip comes ,it gives you the opportunity to buy more and aggressively if you have reasonable amount of cash with you, it is not adviceable to wait for the dip, continuous investment is the best and the wright thing to do.
Though I think it depends on the amount of bitcoin you wish to accumulate and also the amount you're investing with, but i still wonder what will be holding an investor from not reaching the status of overaccumulation before this 15 years. However, i think the idea of buying bitcoin aggressively when you have already reached the status of overaccumulation does not make much sense to me, if i get to the status of overaccumulation i will take it very slowly, i can decide to buy every dip since i have build a very large portfolio. is only those no coiners/ low coiners that is advised to invest in bitcoin without paying any attention to the market fluctuation by using the DcA method, as a no coiner/low coiner and you're hoping to buy every dip definitely  it will take some couple of years before you can be able to reach your target. But when you're using the DcA method you won't even consider the market value before investing, and this is going to make the accumulating process keep moving instead of waiting for the market to dip before investing.

You have to remember that even a guy who puts 10% of his salary into bitcoin, it will take him 10 years to reach 1 year of his salary invested into bitcoin.  I consider 10% reasonable if your discretionary income can tolerate it.

There are folks who are investing into bitcoin at much more whimpily than 10% per year.. so it is going to take them a while to reach over-accumulation status, perhaps even more than 20 years.

Of course, bitcoin price performance can help them, but if they were only investing 1% of their salary into bitcoin, it would take them 100 years to get 1 years salary invested into bitcoin... so it can be questionable if some whimpy levels of investing are going to be enough to get to overaccumulation status.  Of course, any investment into bitcoin is better than nothing, but it pays to have a bit of an ability to increase our investing aggressiveness, especially for any of us wanting to reach overaccumulation status.
You've really nailed the idea that patience and consistency are key when it comes to Bitcoin investment. You're absolutely right about the numbers, and I completely agree with you on the 10% figure being more reasonable than some may think. The idea shows how much little contributions can yield a bountiful fruit over time. 10% is better than not investing at all, anything less than that may seem to be a little bit of problem especially if their income is too small. There are many investors facing this problem as we speak. They may be putting money into Bitcoin, but with such a small percentage, they may not be able to build the kind of position that has the potential to make a significant difference in the long run.

Those who have managed to accumulate significant amounts over the years are in a much better position than someone who only started putting in small percentages of their salary years down the line. This is exactly why I think that 10% is a more reasonable percentage. Sure, it might feel like a larger amount for those still struggling financially to commit to, but it’s a strategy that can truly set someone up for long-term success. It’s reasonable enough to make a meaningful difference in a reasonable amount of time, yet not so extreme that it risks someone’s financial stability. The aim isn't to invest with an amount that will affect someones financial stability in such a way that they end up touching their investment. This is exactly why it is a good reason to set up means to investment rather than starting an investment without proper preparation. Due to the fact that Bitcoin is a long term ride, it wont be profitable if an investor is unstable in his accumulation or if he relies on his accumulation for covering his lively expenses.

Re: Buy Buy Buy or Sell Sell Sell?
by

on 05/05/2025, 01:24:42 UTC
Ive been hearing about situations where someone buys a coin for a certain rate and not quite long after,  the said coin drops in value, or  someone sells his coin for a certain rate and then it appreciates just after.
What's your take on this? Given the period we're in is it buy time or sell time?
If you’re someone who is interested in buying Bitcoin as a newbie you should not be interested in Bitcoin coming down, you might probably be referring to shit coin, But it’s best you should be interested in investing in Bitcoin and you shouldn’t be interested in when to trade, you should consider accumulating more bitcoin and laying down a good strategy to accumulate more and more, well if you are someone who have invested in bitcoin for a long time, and you’ve over accumulated then you can decide to sell little by little so you don’t encounter a huge loss in your investment portfolio

I disagree with your last two sentence, even you don't sell your Bitcoin little by little after overaccumulation stage there is nothing like huge loss remember Bitcoin is a volatile asset so what will only happen is fluctuation and it doesn't mean that if Bitcoin Dips that it will not rise or pump that's it nature. Moreover, even after getting to overaccumulation stage you don't need to be only selling little by little rather you should also be trying as much as possible to be topping ( accumulating back) while you are selling some of it because the idea is to hold and have Bitcoin in our possession, we don't just accumulate and hold for 4-5 years and after getting a good return you sell everything no that's not the idea.
Partially you are making a good point but no one says you cant sell at all. The main point I think we need to keep in mind is just never sell it all. That’s the key. When you sell everything, you lock yourself out of potential future profits, and Bitcoin’s volatility is something we have to accept as part of its nature. But it doesn’t mean that every dip is a sign to sell or that every peak is a time to take profits. Fluctuations are normal and as long as Bitcoin exist we must see the ups and downs.

The real deal with Bitcoin is not to get swept up in the short-term swings. No matter the amount of Bitcoin we have accumulate and how long we have held on to it. Always hold on to a good portion, even when things are uncertain. That’s how you really build wealth in the long run.

It's either ways and one thing is we all have different decision making process and what best suit your preference is what you go for. Likes of me i think it could be sell time and buy time depending how long you've accumulated your coins and if you can be able to sturdy the market very well to know when  the coin is appreciating then you can as well sell at profits and vice versa.
Wrong
What suits your preference might not be the most reliable approach to your investment. The thing about trying to study the market like you said earlier is that you have to time your buys and your sells. It is very risk to do that when you are a Bitcoin investor.

Timing the market is a strategy that even preference traders struggles with and it is exactly why it is dangerous for investors to practice it. When you focus on timing the market, you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself, and not one can really predict the future accurately. And as you try to sell for short term profits you will miss out on the bigger gains over the long run. If you are not sure of holding your Bitcoin for the long term then you shouldn't have started your investment in the first place.

I feel it is more better for an investor to look back at the massive growth of Bitcoin overtime for them to see more reasons why they need to hold for long term..remove the mindset o constantly trying to figure out the perfect moment to sell and then buy again, because you will be automatically acting more like a trader than an investor. The whole point of investing for long term especially in an asset like Bitcoin is to buy and hodl and not to be obsess over quick profits.

Re: Difficulty accessing the forum with Tor on mobile phone
by

on 03/05/2025, 13:53:32 UTC
This is not the first time, similar complaint have been made. The most common issue is the cloudf;are / DDps protection. Since bitcointalk uses DDos protection mechincism like cloudfare these service sometimes block traffic from Tor, speifically on mobile device where users are less.

How to access Bitcointalk using Tor

It is impossible now to access Bitcointalk with TOR

I too encounter this phenomenon periodically. I have noticed that it happens when using certain servers on my VPN. I can't explain the reason for this behavior of these servers, maybe CloudFlare considers them suspicious or something else, but when I switch to another server this problem disappears.
I face this whenever I am trying to access the forum using TOR. So I also think it's a cloudflare related thing. More like a security checkup. In normal cases without using any third party VPN or TOR like things it never shows up. Sometimes it would show up when the Internet connection is so slow. Apart from these cases, never encountered this.

Forgot to add one thing, "View all" causes it every time, who knows why!

Try using mobile apps for Bitcointalk instead

Well I know Bitcoin has not reached 100k yet and some of you don't actually believe that Bitcoin will actually reach that level but trust me it will, it might take time but eventually it will
Well that aside back then I actually told myself that if Bitcoin gets to 80k or 90k I will sell but for some time I've been having second thoughts
Maybe it's the forum that is changing my perspective because people here are the real supporters of Bitcoin
They don't just do it for the wealth but also for the love of Bitcoin and for some reason I now feel that even if Bitcoin reach 100k I still won't sell mine

What about you?
Time takes a very big space in the body of investment. bitcoin has been a very productive asset it is reliable in terms of investment and its passed result has shown how aggressive it is in its bullishness. There is even quite a chance that in the next 10 years bitcoin might surprisingly reach $1 million.
Imagine in you having something worth $800k to $1m in your name in the next 10 years how great will you feel? ten years no really far ooh.
So me personally i see no use selling it once it reaches 100k, its an investment, investment is all about time and patience.
in a time of emergency also you will have it as back up
