Re: The big VTC Vertcoin settings thread

I'm not sure what I am doing differently, but I am running vertminer in BAMT 1.4 with three 7950s and now I am only getting 258 kh/s per card instead of about 315 like before. I don't know if it's BAMT or the latest version of vertminer (0.5.4pre2) that is causing the huge loss of hashrate.

EDIT: OK, it's totally the newest version of vertminer that was the problem. I did a git checkout to the last commit of 0.5.3, recompiled it and now my hashrate is back around 310 kh/s per card.

i have mined for few scrypt switching pools.
will, at last, one of them, show us the real profit over ltc mining for last x days?

Why does % over mining ltc matter that much? You can do the math yourself at coinwarz by just entering 1000 kh and see what it gives you. I just did it and got 0.00652747 btc/Mh/day, so you are coming out ahead of mining straight LTC, but the gap has shrunk considerable over the past couple weeks.

I prefer btc/mh as a measure vs mining LTC as I consider LTC to be just another script coin in the mix.

sell vcards from your rigs to gamers. one day profit of x100500% guaranteed :-/

That's what I'm doing (no joke). I have three R9 270X listed on eBay with a starting bid of $199.99 (I hope to get around $205-$230 each).  After eBay fees, paypal fees and free shipping I'm likely going to take a $40-70 loss per video card (excluding anything I mined). That being said I'll keep mining here with my last video card a R9 290.

If you bought your cards recently, you will be looking a long way into the future for an ROI. If you bought in November before the rush, you are golden Wink

Probably due to the heaps of Auroracoin we are sitting on and the wildly fluctuating value of it on exchanges.

I run 2GB of DDR on BAMT with 3 cards. No issues here. I should be able to run 1GB, I just haven't pulled the sticks out since I assembled the miner.

I also have a 4 card rig running 4GB of DDR2 and I get what can be considered the going rate for my cards.

My hardware costs for my 3.6 Mh's were $1600 CAD including everything, but most of it was bought back in November. I could cover my initial costs by selling 4 of my 7 gpu's since their value doubled since I bought them, but my plan is in the event scrypt mining becomes unprofitable, I will keep a few GPUs for have a wicked gaming system (currently only using an old GTX 470).

I have actually paid off about 70% of the rigs from selling some BTC, and the value of my remaining BTC more than covers the last 30% and then some, but I keep it to trade with.

So read it however you want. Your btc/MH is fairly accurate there based on accepted MH, not your actual hash rate.

So did you earn more here or more on clever ?

I think I made more here? Last time I was doing a test run i had to shut my rig off for a couple hours, so it wasn't a fair comparison. I'm giving it another go now for the next 24h.

I know one day isn't a fair comparison, but I'm not comparing profits to profits, but rather what the pool says you should get per mh vs what you actually get.

You really have to take btc/MH values posted on sites with a grain of salt. It's easy to get caught up in the math when you mine at 3.6 MH and you see > 0.01 btc/MH per day, so you expect to see > 0.036 btc/day which is only true if you had a 0% reject rate. I might as well have unplugged one of my gpus with how much hashrate I was throwing away at clevermining.

Wafflepool is usually around 0.009 to 0.01. if my reject rate is as low as it usually is here, I should be slightly more profitable. Time will tell!

edit: as shares and value of coins changes all the time, my 24h profit at clever now reports as 0.03240274 BTC which works out to 0.01045 btc/mh (using 3.1 MH) or 0.009000 btc/MH (using 3.6 MH)

Figured I would update this:

I ran a 24h test on wafflepool to see how it compared to clevermining.

My earnings for the 24h stretch, taking into account unconverted btc value, gave me about 0.033366 btc which works out to be 0.009268 btc/mh (based on my actual 3.6 MH/s). This is also with only about a 1% reject rate.

So at least for my 24h to 24h comparison, which really isn't long enough by any means, wafflepool came out ahead slightly. Without being able to tell what my actual average accepted hashrate was during that 24h period, I can't give a true btc/mh reading but anyway, it seems fairly close to what is reported on the website's stats page.

In all honesty, they seem fairly similar in earnings, but wafflepool does seem a bit more transparent, albeit not as pretty.

Even mining VTC, at current prices, is almost the same as mining at wafflepool. When the price of VTC was higher, it was significantly more profitable to mine, but not so much anymore. Everything has evened out.

I gotta admit, I never had problems with waffle. Really low reject rates too.

I also admit that I am testing out clevermining to see if their claims of profitability match their stats. My reject rate there though....  Cry

Please report back, as this is a great piece of info.  We can obviously claim 10% higher stats, if 10% of everyones hashrate gets rejected Smiley  I'm personally too involved to give any sort of non-biased stats, and I appreciate anyone that can come back and say "from time A to B, I earned C on wafflepool, and D on ".  WP has things to learn from other pools, they have things to learn from us Smiley

Ran for 24h at clevermining, hashing at 3.6 MH/s, their website reports I had a 13% reject rate (0.5 MH) and my profits were 0.03139240 btc.

If you do the math vs my actual hashrate, that would only be 0.00872 btc/MH.
If you calculate it out vs my accepted MH, that would be 0.0101265 btc/MH.

So read it however you want. Your btc/MH is fairly accurate there based on accepted MH, not your actual hash rate.

I noticed my stats for blocks found seems to have cleared. Not like it matters, but I was wondering if wafflepool reset this stat at some point?
