@eddycurrent, @muf18: I added the aarch64 link to the OP. Thanks for your work!

(I had to correct another "collateral damage" of the walk of this account into Newbie territory: The Bitcointalk software had removed the link to the Windows 0.5.1 wallet as a "suspicious link" (strange, as it's on github.io) . It's fixed now.)

I have updated the OP again.

Basically, the updates are:
- information about the testing of 0.5.2 (with coin control & PoS optimization)
- Coinsmarkets was removed completely as it seems to be gone
- information about an upcoming second Web2Web node I plan to start soon, which will include a torrent client that is always online and can share selected Web2Web documents.

@muf18, once you published eddycurrent's new ARM version, I'll post it on the OP, too.

Unfortunately, the Slimcoin Community account has got Newbie status again due to the changed rank rules which require Junior Members to get a single Merit point, and thus currently dzarmush's header image is not showing.

(Once the new node is up I plan to publish a Web2Web tutorial from this account, which may be Merit-worthy. Wink )

[SLM] The Slimcoin Marketplace | Buy and sell SLM | Trade goods & services
by
Slimcoin Community
on 03/08/2017, 17:53:05 UTC

This thread is the marketplace for Slimcoin, the original Proof of Burn currency.

Here you can express your interest to:

  • buy and sell Slimcoin (SLM) against other cryptocurrencies
  • buy and sell Slimcoin (SLM) against fiat currencies
  • sell virtual and physical goods for Slimcoin (SLM)
  • offer services for Slimcoin (SLM)

Please respect the forum rules - above all, the rule that you are allowed to bump the thread only once per 24 hours, and that you are not allowed to "giveaway" Slimcoins only for posting in this thread.

The thread starter will not moderate scams - please investigate before you execute a trade with your counterparty.

PS: Dear moderators, I have read the forum rules and a thread of this nature seems not to be forbidden. I think also it's better for the forum consistency to group offers in a thread.

Just started a German ANN thread:

By the way: There is also a Spanish thread - I didn't start it, but I try to bump it every now and then with updates:

(Tomorrow I should be out of the "newbie cage", then I can add dzarmush's nice headers to the ANN's).

Neben Proof of Work und Proof of Stake setzt sie auf das Proof of Burn-Prinzip.

Look for small altcoins with unique features that can't easily be copied by Bitcoin and Ethereum. That does not mean that you should look for a restrictive license or even patented technology - closed source altcoins will NEVER get any traction - but the features that make the coin unique should be deep in the "consensus" level. Think of hardforks that would never get acceptance in Bitcoin but actually solve a problem.

Cryptocurrencies are a very interesting technology. But they aren't made for every human interaction which involves money. They are very well suited for online buys and remittances but not ideal for coffee and brick-and-mortar shops.

I consider cryptocurrencies to have a market that is maybe 20 or 30 times higher than today. Not much more.

Re: How to find good altcoins that might x10-x100 returns in short-term?
by
Slimcoin Community

While I consider x10 is still possible with smaller altcoins (look here for a recent example - 80 to 800 satoshis in the first 2 July weeks), most short-term volatility is related to Pump and Dump activity or with low liquidity. It's very risky to try to profit from that.

I would rather try to discover the long-term stars. Look at the lower ranks at Coinmarketcap, grab the websites and compare. If you find one with a different feature which is not a centralized scam, bet on it and try to collaborate with the community - your gains will probably be very significant, but you should have patience - and the more you use the coin, the more chances it has to succeed.

Ethereum has achieved a nice network effect. That's why I consider it to be one of the cryptocurrencies that most "future" should have.

But its USP is smart contracts - and smart contracts will be added to Bitcoin once Rootstock fully works. Maybe that will change when Casper is ready - then ETH has also the USP as the "biggest PoS altcoin".

Re: Will bitcoin eventually kill Altcoin?
by

The big challenge for altcoins will be when pegged sidechains will arrive. They could integrate smart contracts (Rootstock etc.), privacy, and other nice functions - almost everything where altcoins today excel and Bitcoin does not. Then I expect many altcoins to fall into irrelevancy.

But what Bitcoin's sidechain won't be able to copy are better and more efficient consensus methods like Proof of Stake and Proof of Burn. Because sidechains can be merged-mined but there would still be a lot of energy waste and therefore, also the transaction fees would be substantial. So coins like Peercoin, Slimcoin, or Burst whose "selling point" is their efficiency and are able to offer minimal fees should not be in danger.

[Slimcoin] Analysis: Proof of Burn & Price
by
Slimcoin Community
on 28/06/2017, 22:25:50 UTC
In this thread I will conduct an analysis to know if the price has any effect on the "proof of burn" rate.

Proof of Burn, in Slimcoin, is a mechanism that allows participants to "destroy" currency, getting the chance to win block rewards in the future.

This allows the users, in some way, control the supply of the currency and act like a decentralized central bank. You can read more here on the Slimcoin website and in the Slimcoin wiki.

An interesting number in this context is the "burn rate". The more coins people burn, the more coins are subtracted from the total available supply. So if there is a high burn rate, the currency becomes more deflationary.

It is the primary goal of this study to analyze if the price of the token can have any effect on this number. I will analyze the following numbers and its relation to burn rate:

- average price of 1 SLM in BTC
- average price of 1 SLM in USD
- monthly price variation (BTC and USD)

Other possible influences are:

- Proof of Burn block reward.
- social variables like the "sentiment" (optimism or pessimism). These are more difficult to measure and will be added perhaps in the future.

This is a long term study and it won't have really interesting results in the first weeks and months. I will provide at least monthly - sometimes weekly - updates with the four main variables.

I bump this olde article because I found it only today and I consider it far better written then a recent article about the same topic on Coindesk. Good work!

I was curious if Proof of Activity was ever implemented, it looks interesting. The other algorithms now have all been used for altcoins:

- Proof of Capacity: Burst
- Proof of Burn: Slimcoin and the defunct TGCoin (Third Generation Coin)
- Hybrid Proof of Work/Stake: Peercoin and a lot of clones
- Byzantine Generals: Bitshares, Lisk and other "DPOS" coins; Ethereum's planned "Casper" is based on a similar idea but uses an algorithm where the participants are not limited to a closed group like in DPOS.

There are two algorithms missing:

- Transactions as Proof of Stake (TAPOS): was never fully implemented (afaik) but parts of the concept are used in Bitshares and Nxt.
- Proof of Importance: Proof of Stake weighted by a transaction graph (NEM)
