Re: Why would customers use Bitcoins?
by

Fundamentally better in most cases.

There is also a big political aspect with Bitcoin that I think very many forgets.

What cases are those? Cash or debit seem to be fundamentally better for most transactions in store and maybe even online. What happens if you can't get a connection in store? It's even risky using wifi if it's unsecure and you could have all your coins taken if so. At the moment I don't think there's any reason why the general public would want or need to use bitcoin sadly.

Gold is overated really. Sure it's a usable metal but you can use many other metals instead. As far as a currency goes it's not that great but suppose it holds its worth as a precious metal at least.

Re: What's your biggest problem with Bitcoin
by
Slunt
on 29/02/2016, 18:32:39 UTC
My biggest issue is uncertainty. The price is way too fickle and it's disturbing how a bit of bad or even fake news can send people into a panic and the price comes fallign down. I also think bitcoin is uncertain because the lack of adoption. One of my biggest fears is that it will eventually just be forgotten about or miners lose interest if the price falls below something that becomes unprofitable.

Did any of you have your alias as your username here or some sort of simple dictionary word? Wouldn't surprise me if hackers were using bots to try get hits on usernames and then focusing on the ones they find.

Doesn't it feel strange that all these strange things happens to one and only one online wallet, 99% of the cases is blockchain.info . Well after reading other stories here, I raise a reasonable doubt, why people should continue using it  Huh

If you can't keep your funds safe then using a desktop wallet wont be any good either. At least blockchain.info has several security features that prevent a hacker getting in. Even if they had your password and identifyer they wouldnt be able to get in without confirming via email and 2-factor if you have that set up which you should have and even then they wouldn't be able to spend the funds if you had a second password on.

This is what makes me lose faith in bitcoin. People are too fickle and will just start selling their coins as soon as they get a whiff of bad news and of course this has a knock on effect and sends everyone pannicking. The only thing I can see pushing the price up the other way is the block halving later this year. Hope I'm not dissapointed but if the value is still fairly low by the start of next year I can't see it rising anytime soon after.

Re: I feel pity for Mike Hearn

I too feel a bit sorry for Mike Hearn after reading his write up on the current state of affairs. He is quite right and on the spot on most of his post and one can clearly see he wanted to change something and leave a dent on Bitcoin for the better and that this talk and all of the disregard for a block size increase made him tired.

I think he did well on going away, sad to see he didn't have much of a chance.

He might be right on a few things but he was wrong and spreaded a lot of fud on other things and all because he acted like a baby just because he didn't get his own specific way. Things need to change with bitcoin but just because they're not happening as fast as he would like or in his way doesn't mean to say he should just give up.

I just binged watched The Making of a Murderer over the last couple of days. Still need to watch the last few episodes but I'm really intrigued to find out what the hell actually happened and if anyone was actually caught/punished. For those that don't know it's a documentary series on a real life case involving a man that may or may not have committed some crimes and may or may not have been framed but there's lots if twists and you really have no idea whether he's guilty or not. Don't want to give too much away but I highly recommend it.

Re: Will the Banking Industry kill Bitcoin and keep the Blockchain?
by
Slunt
on 21/12/2015, 19:03:05 UTC
I think it's inevitable that the banks will use their own private blockchains but it wont kill bitcoin. Bitcoin is meant to exist outside of the banks and central authorities so it will continue to operate independently as we will always need a decentralized currency to avoid censorship and manipulation by central banks. Bitcoin's potential is far greater than whether banks use it.

Havent watched much TV as of late but the new series of An Idiot Abroad is a good laugh.

i just started watching "The Office" (US) on Netflix again. Dwight's the best!

Have you seen the UK version? Far superior though vastly different comedies.

Yes you should buy one. I would recommend the ledger nano as it is very cheap and secure. Just make sure you set it up on a safe computer. Send a little amount of coins to it first and if it doesn't get knabbed you should be alright lol.

Just because it rose doesn't mean it has to do with the halving. I expect that to happen a couple of months before it though. Think the price will rise higher the closer we get to it but it likely wont start until a couple of months before.

Re: Buying Bitcoin was a worst decision of my life
by

on 12/10/2015, 07:55:29 UTC
How many of you can admit that buying Bitcoin was a worst decision of your life? I can. I'm approximately -50% in fiat funds now.
Sooner or later some type of bank chain or coin will come and gain mass adoption - while bitcoin still remaining a geek coin
to buy weed.
I know this forum is more like a cult than a information channel what comes to honest opinions but I know there's others
on this forum who feel the same, almost all of us. Don't let your cult believer ego come in the way.

Bankchain? Banks may use their own blockchains but they probably wont have coins and it wont have any effect on bitcoin because they'll just be used internally. If you believe in bitcoin you will need to hold your coins for several years. I'm thinking 5+ at least for big gains, but if you don't believe in bitcoin I suggest you cash out when you can and cut your losses.

Bitcoin will have failed if we have to wait until 2021 to see $500....I see $500 happening within the next couple of years.

It won't have failed. If bitcoin is still going at these prices in 2021 then it will be a sucess. I think bitcoins value will rise to over 1k again but not anytime soon and we may need to wait at least five years for that.

Just finished the first season of Narcos on Netflix. It was super good. I thought they would wrap it up like a mini series, but there wasn't any closure at the end so I am assuming there will be a second season. I would recommend watching it

They're doing a second season? So I take it he doesn't die at the end? They should have just made it into one to be honest. Only watched the first episode but assumed the series would climax with his death.

Why does the bitcoin price seem to follow the stock market?
When the internation stock marker fell from the prblems with china's economy, why did it have such an affect on the bitcoin to force ti to fall by £50 (around $80)

People always try to find reasons for why the price goes down or up, but its always just down to supply and demand and people either panic selling or buying. I wouldn't sweat the short term fluctuations.

Not focussing on the actual limits of bitcoins and how one bitcoin has been set limits of many millions of pounds.
What is the potential for the bitcoin price in the future?

What do you mean by the bolded part? Regarding the second line nobody knows the potential, that's up to what potential you see in it. 1 bitcoin could be worth thousands, tens of thosands, a million, or zero or close to it. That's part of the fun.
