The age preference put up of 18-24 was to find any overlooked talent out there that isn't getting a fair shake because of their age.

Wow, really?  Right now if you're young and have any kind of degree at all, there is no way you can be overlooked. There's more jobs than graduates.

On the other hand, if you're over 40, don't quit your job unless you have a contract somewhere else! People will just assume you're too old to learn new technologies or that they can hire two kids for the price of one veteran.

In France it's a common occurrence for IT/devs to be 'shelved' at 40 apparently.

At least here ageism is still illegal...

Just saying... The best way to succeed is to have both young pups and an experienced bear or two.

(Sorry, this type of stuff makes me mad. Every single want-add for software dev. wants 'young, dynamic' people... As if having to death march to deadlines and staying at work all weekends was somehow an attractive plan. sheesh. Smiley  I can see there's something wrong going on and it's only going to get worse, but no one talks about it.)

Anyway, good luck with your project, any Bitcoin development in Canada is great news. Smiley
I believe the really issue here is for people like myself who wish to work in the tech field but don't have the diploma/degree AND job experience many of these companies (startup or no) are looking for.

Re: [Help!]Rig Components

I'm thinking about building a rig.  I have a few questions, though.

MOBO/Motherboard/Mainboard
What does this do, and why is it necessary?  Does the type of motherboard you buy for your rig matter?  Can't you just buy a GPU and CPU card and be set?

RAM
The computer needs RAM to carry out the mining operations.  Higher RAM equals more Mining Capacity?

CPU
Should I just buy the cheapest CPU since miners don't use it?

GPU/FPGA
Which is better, and why?  What is the cost difference?

How do I power, cool, and use the rig?

Thanks!

I won't recommend any parts to you as I don't mine. Others will chip in (pun intended) with their opinions and anecdotes.

The motherboard holds the RAM, CPU and GPU, and supplies power to them. You must have this.

The amount of RAM is you need is just enough for the operating system, plus the mining software, plus the wallet software of your choice (if you decide to keep it on the same computer).

The CPU should be the cheapest one you can get.

I've read about cards derived from the AMD Radeon 5770 reference have the best dollar per Mhash/s ratio at ~$0.5 USD. That is only if you set up the operating system and mining software properly.

The power supply is the most important part of the rig. Find out the power requirement for the system as a whole and add 20% to that figure. That'll insure you from power spikes.

That's all I can give you for now after my doing my own research over the past few weeks.

[snip]

As for a hooker, I'll bring that up with management!  Grin

I would rather the limo though...

And to run with WillMilk4Coin's idea, why not have to the limo able to take us up to a set distance within a set timeframe depending on the number of transactions?

I'm with Zetor on this one. The easiest is usually the one you yourself create. If you check in Computer Hardware section of the Marketplace forum (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=75.0), I'm believe you may find something. If power is an issue however, many people are working on better solutions.

Thank you very much for posting that bitfish. I've since added it to my .zshrc file.

I set up a little site the other day to help with which coin to mine with the hardware hashrate you have.
Take a look at http://www.WhereToMine.com .  Hope it helps!
It's a new site, so I'm open to any comments/suggestions.

Thanks for posting the link! It helped me understand where I should be focusing my future mining rigs.

Re: HOWTO: create a 100% secure wallet

+1, I got it now. AES is actually secure enough, that it'll be safe forever provided mathematics don't completely vanish and the laws of physics still apply (and your key-length is sufficient).

Still, I prefer not to encrypt the file, since the passphrases either have to be written down or remembered, both of which aren't exactly ideal (Think brain hemorrhage, which I definitely plan to get one of these days).

Also, newbs can barely handle Ubuntu.
I was a newb once... in 2005  Roll Eyes

In all seriousness, this discussion has me reassessing the security of every part of my systems and the networks they connect to.
