Re: Altcoins mined with CPU

Really I don't know if they have banned any but nor can we say that a botnet has done mining on Magicoin. I only say on theory that can be prevent an exccesive mining of a massive botnet over any coin. Obviously the botnet will get some coins until this be detected.

I am a very active member of the XMG Coin Magi community and keep a constant eye on POW mining activity. I have made representations to mining pools on two occasions where suspicious activity has been detected. On both occasions this resulted in the suspicious activity being stopped and the perpetrators banned from the mining pool.

Obviously, even this pro-active monitoring cannot prevent all abuse, but XMG is a hybrid POW/POS coin that resists "50% attack". There is also the unique XMG block reward algorithm that reduces the POW block rewards to near zero if the the coin is being over-mined, so a very large hashrate from a server farm or botnet for example will gain next to nothing in returns. This is the reason why most XMG mining pools now apply a hashrate limit.

What is going on with the Gorilla Exchange?

The XMG market has been disabled. Why? I tried to withdraw my coins as a result. Now that withdrawal is "pending admin approval".

I want my coins back now thank you very much.
Hi
i was just sorting out the markets
it will be back on again in a bit

My coins are back now , thanks. Three minutes later I got an extra 27 XMG incoming that I cannot account for. That wasn't you was it? Grin

I see the membership is growing steadily and I am very pleased with the payouts at the moment, despite the low XMG block rewards recently. We are certainly getting our fair share.

Great work and I am really impressed with how quickly you had the pool up and running.

Three cheers for lahlor!

PS. Folks! Don't forget to set your pool donation percentage Wink

Hi,

Just registered with the exchange after seeing your post on the XMG Coin Magi thread.

1) Could not read the T&Cs - server error (registered anyway lol, so what did I sign up to?)

2) Wallet for XMG is shown as MEGI. Ugh! Gotta fix that pronto.

3) I cannot find a logout option - the down arrow by my username does nothing.

Using Chrome browser on Windows 7 64 bit.

Cheers.
HI
1 T&C'S  Not there (i forgot to post them up there)
2 Wallet for XMG is shown as MEGI.  (is that on the exchange ?)
3 I cannot find a logout option - the down arrow by my username does nothing. ( I keep asking the dev to remove that )

Re: 2) No - the exchange area shows it as XMG. It was when I thought about depositing some XMG.
Re: 3) Ok, so how does one logout? I closed the page and had to log back in again a bit later, so it didn't keep the session open for very long anyway. Scrub that - just spotted it!

Edit: I don't need the first page to tell me that my password was last changed $ days ago (yes - dollar character). Also on the login page the "Remember me/Stay signed in" checkbox does not work and I get logged out after a very short period of non-activity. This is particularly annoying.

I had two posts deleted for being "insubstantial" and learned the lesson. Not rocket science.

Incidentally, why be discussing (crackpot) conspiracy theories on bitcointalk forum? There are better places for things like that. Getting banned from one of those places is real easy - just start pointing out the actual truth and you will be banned as a shill in next to no time.

Now you will have to excuse me while I go polish my orgone generator. There's hundreds of chemtrails to clear from the sky here and I think some haarp weather is rolling in too.

I have no idea what the fault is either and I am an expert at these things. The machine is running just vanilla Windows 7 64 bit entirely up to date and it runs faultlessly with everything else I throw at it. It no longer matters to me though, since I did what I had to with the wallet for now. I will probably just run up the wallet daily from now on to keep it synced. I will definitely try it on a few other machines though, just to satisfy my curiosity.

Thanks for all your replies Smiley

I have got it nearly synced now, but there is clearly something fundamentally wrong.

The wallet will sync for a maximum of three minutes, after which all incoming network traffic appears to stop but some outgoing network traffic still occurs. This is very repeatable, except that sometimes when the wallet is started there is no network traffic in either direction. There is nothing wrong with the pc - that runs other wallets (and miners) without a single hiccup.

I have seen/had problems myself with DNS and wondered if this might be a factor? Are the seed nodes hardcoded into the wallet as domain names or IP addresses?

Edit: The wallet synced and had been idle for some time when it just crashed with an assertion failure Sad

Quark updated (0.9.2.4):

- Hard checkpoint added
- Seednodes updated

New build for Win64 available with above changes and updated libraries:

Win64 0.9.2.4 (zip)
Mega - https://mega.co.nz/#!55tynLYI!LLv-p-1sxRz8o-TPogtSd92kCIaN9dxG3KsKJTP4bmM
Dropbox - https://www.dropbox.com/s/kpxgvvr6010wi6v/quark0.9.2.4win64.zip?dl=0

File hash: SHA1 1E49F7AD5232C1B124109FC40758ADD97A4F7FA0

Thanks for that.

I managed to get the 64 bit version 0.9.2.3 wallet from the dropbox link in the OP, but the updating with that was no better than the 32 bit version. I have already gone so far as to write a small routine that opens the wallet, lets it run for two minutes, closes it cleanly, waits for 10 seconds and then restarts the wallet. This has got the wallet updating in fits and starts but it might be finished before the day is out at least.

I will give the new wallet a go ...

Should you decide to bail on QRK feel free to PM me your wallet.dat and I'll put the coins to use *cough* sell them *cough*

Not a chance. These QRK are part of my pension fund. I should be able to enjoy half a pint of beer with the proceeds and I am really looking forward to that Wink

TBH though I was almost tempted to send you that file for a moment there Cheesy

No really ... the wallet runs for about five minutes a minute and then just stops updating despite having a good 8 connections to the network. Completely useless.

I see my Quark forum membership has now been approved.

I also see that the blockchain torrent download does not seem to have been updated since September last year, so that is utterly useless. The wallet is continually sticking while updating and going nowhere until I restart it, which is driving me insane.

Furthermore, the latest 64 bit Windows wallet zip file download is corrupted. The 32 bit one at least unzipped ok, but does not seem to be working very well.

So like the man said .... what is happening with this coin? I am almost ready to write-off all my QRK simply because it is going to be way too much trouble to get the wallet up to date.

so what is the current situation with quark?

Now that is a superb question.

I have not opened my Quark wallet for some time for a number of reasons which are not important.

However, when I did so, it would not sync. I fixed that by searching via Google for some recent addnodes to add to my conf file. Why the older ones from just September last year did not work is anybody's guess, but it surprised me. Anybody less capable than me would have been stuck.

Next of course was the fact that being so out of date, a recent blockchain snapshot (bootstrap.dat or whatever) would have been nice. The only link for that was a torrent that was not available to me until I registered on the Quark forum. I did that hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours ago, but have not yet been authorized to download even that torrent file.

I cannot yet even post to the forum because ... well you tell me.

Meantime my wallet is syncing the old fashioned way. In a couple of days it might get there.

Not good enough guys Sad

Crucial resources should not only be open to registered and approved forum members. What are you thinking Huh

not exactly XMG mining topic but highly related, do you guys have any cpu cooler to recommencement? i am using the intel's default cooler and i was wondering if there is any cheap solution to drastically improve the cooling of my i5-2500?

A decent water cooler such as either of the two mentioned previously would be more than up to the job. The first one looks remarkably similar identical to the Corsair H110 that I use for a CPU with TDP 225W which works just fine for that and would possibly be overkill for your CPU. You might find that a smaller model such as the Corsair H55 would suffice.

The Intel i5-2500 is designed to run hot with a safe operating temperature of 72 deg C, somewhat higher than average.

Hope this helps Smiley

What does -s stand for?

Code:
minerd -a m7mhash -t 6 -s 4 -o stratum+tcp://stratum.m-hash.com:3334 -u Weblogin.WorkerName -p WorkerPassword

Scantime. The upper bound on the time spent scanning current work when long polling is unavailable, in seconds (default 5).

Got that from minerd --help Cheesy

Posting here for completeness ...

At last ...

Windows 32 and 64 bit Software Release

The latest version of the XMG Magi Miner Speed Controller.

I have reduced the response time when speed settings are changed and ironed out a few things, but best of all is the addition of Sweet Spot targeting in this edition, with the kind permission of NeedIfFindIt who provides the data feed that makes it possible.

Download link:-

https://www.dropbox.com/s/wbtmlktiy32b3xw/XMGMinerSpeed.exe

This is a self-extracting Zip file which unzips to folder C:\XMGminer\MinerSpeed by default. Run the exe, extract to default folder and then run C:\XMGminer\MinerSpeed\Setup.bat which will create a startup file and desktop icon for you. Enjoy.

The utility works very well and CPU usage percentage settings are very accurate, but you might see the occasional error message from the miner when speed limiting is applied. The most common error messages are "stratum_recv_line failed", "Stratum connection interrupted" and "JSON decode failed" but the miner recovers automatically and it is not really a problem.

Happy hashing and happy SweetSpot targeting Smiley
