Totally irrelevant at this point and nobody cares about "your thoughts" on it. Satoshi doesn't want to be found. Leave him alone.

Is centralization even that big of a deal? People don't care if Bitcoin is centralized or not- what matters is the utility of the technology and how well it works.

Daniel Larimer is a nobody.
He does not know what he is talking about.
Big "conglomerates" doing the bitcoin mining does NOT effect the security of the block chain.
Lets pretend only ONE person in the world is mining bitcoins.
Big deal.
Who cares?
There is nothing that one person can do to hurt bitcoin.
Everyone else using bitcoin has the block chain.
Easily over 1000 people have the block chain downloaded.  No I didn't bother to look that up, it is a safe guess.
This one remaining miner cannot change the record, or the records of future transactions.

Perhaps I am missing something, but why does anyone care if everyone STOPS mining bitcoin?
The Bitcoin QT software will still behave as a wallet and peer to peer transaction data will still be shared among everyone elses wallet, correct?

Or are miners acting as a control node, in addition to mining?

?? I was under the impression that mining confirms transactions and brings security to the network...unless I'm completely wrong lol?

And I wouldn't just say Daniel Larimer is a "nobody" he pretty much created one of the first DACs with Bitshares, and it's been doing pretty well lately. Wouldn't be surprised if it passed Litecoin at some point.

This is from a Google Hangout with Daniel Larimer. He starts talking about the issues with Bitcoin mining and PoW at 1:01:20 and goes until 1:03:44. Only a few minutes long.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBcJ5rsAGaI

Seems to me like he's bringing up some pretty serious flaws here. He later goes on to say that PoW is dead and Bitcoin will have to change at some point. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

the drop is meaningless

it is not a consensus that people have lost their passion. its more of the case that a very small group of stupid people are purposefully selling below the resistance point, soon enough they wont have coins left to continue, and then everyone else whom is buying the coins from them will simply hoard for their profit, thus the price will correct.

as you can see the price is trying to track back above $500+, yet someone is trying to dump the price down. so lets allow that person to spend all their coin and leave them, back in the land of the bank note. and we can simply buy cheap coin thanks to them be the smart ones.

as for the government regs. the 'consumer protections' announcement is standard protocol advice in short "warning you can lose aswell as gain, there is no guaranteed profit." which is smart advice, and noobs should be wise to listen to it, instead of hearing it from friends that its guaranteed millionaire makers over night from their gpu's. (ike the wild west propaganda you can make millions with just a pickaxe).

smart investors have not lost their passion and look far beyond trying to increase their bank note wealth. and with that said, if your smart and protect your investments and never sell at a loss, you wont be a loser

Couldn't agree more with this!!

No intention of selling, no matter how high the price goes. I'm young and Bitcoin is my savings for the future.

Yes, it will take a while to reach $50,000. Many years.

But it will hit $5000 within the next 6 months.

$5,000 in the next 6 months!? LOL. What planet are you living on?

I'm curious and skeptical.

On one hand, I hate having to connect my Facebook. That is a red flag to me.

On the other, check out their team! Holy cow! They have a bunch of really smart people with some very good experience!

Need to implement it and make it live rather than just talk.

Agreed! It seems a lot of people feel very confident in talking the talk, but nobody is willing to walk the walk.

Bitcoin isn't for the faint of heart that's for sure. Many of us have been through multiple swings in both directions but it seems bear hunting season is about to start so newcomers should better get out their battle axes if they hop on board. One either has a vision on what Bitcoin can become or they do not. More and more big money has gotten on board more so than ever before and you can use it in many more places than before. More exchanges are popping up and we're on the cusp of ETFs and more hedge funds arriving in the ecosystem, so more mega financial interests are showing interest. It's not like you're putting your money on a roulette wheel at the moment. Can't say I'm all in but mostly.

Good synopsis of the current situation. I feel the same.

Re: Gauging interest for a bitcoin-funded race car
by
SpontaneousDream
on 10/07/2014, 23:44:42 UTC
This might not be taken seriously but I figured I'd throw the idea out there.
It's always been my dream to get into racing, and I do race competitive simulation racing online with good success (Top 5 ~35% against other top racers) @ iRacing.com, and recently ran extremely competitive times in rental 390cc Go-Karts at GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, NC.

Since I am a bit of a newcomer to actual physical racing, I'd probably be best off buying a turn key 4cyl race-ready "compact" car. These are typically 1990-2005 MY Chevrolet Cavalier, Dodge Neon and etc. The interiors and glass are stripped out, and a roll bar welded and racing seat are put in.

Unfortunately, I am a student, I have very little family support, and don't have quite the money to purchase one as they run in the $2000-3000 range, and I would also need to buy safety equipment and a trailer, with at least $600 reserve for racing tires and possible repairs.

This car class runs almost every week in the schedule at my local race track and the track consistently draws crowds of 2,500 to 4,000.

If I could secure around 6-8 BTC, I would be able to purchase a race car and hauling trailer as well as helmet, neck restraint and etc and have reserve money for any issues that may arise. We already have a truck that would be capable of towing the car.

I would paint the race-ready car matte black and apply the minimalist orange "bitcoin logo" as a vinyl sticker to the hood and the "logo with text" to each rear quarter panel as seen here:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Promotional_graphics

Would you be interested in helping to fund my race car and gift me my dream? Is this a good/cool idea? Let me know what you think.
If someone rich in bitcoins would happen to generously throw me 8 BTC, I'd be on track with the car fully "bitcoin sponsored" in only a couple weeks provided I can find a car.
I intend to get the decals for the car printed on vinyl at carstickers.com.

Stopped reading right after that. Lmao
