Using BTC instead of Swift to move money these days. Suggestions please

Hello guys,

I need to get some money wired to the USA from another country, but with the COVID issues going to the bank is not possible at the moment and for some reason a swift can't be made unless you go personally to the bank.

So, I was thinking about buying BTC and then sending that to my wallet in Gdax and then cashing it out in USD (which is what I need to do, this is not an investment, just using crypto as money)

Would you suggest I buy BTC for this or LTC or any other crypto?

What are the waiting times for sending BTC and is this going to be less costly than a SWIFT transfer to me>? Assuming my bank doesn't charge me for a swift fortunately.

Any advise appreciated. Thanks

Re: Gdax/Coinbase crediting your wires fast or not?

If I do a wire today into Gdax, how fast will I see it credited in my Gdax account?

I have read horror stories, so I am iffy about doing this, but the sales are everywhere and I need the funds there in my trading account FAST!

Thanks !!

Maybe 3-7 days. It’s taken a different amount of time for me every transfer. There’s nothing “fast” about bitcoin. The time involved is the reason most people get screwed over when an exchanges gets closed and raided by the feds or steals the money and runs away. They have to leave money on the exchange all the time.

Debit card/credit card = immediate.
Btc transaction = 10 minutes, 20 minutes, ?
Withdraw cash from a bank = 90 seconds
Withdraw cash from a bitcoin exchange = 3 days, 7 days, two weeks, who knows

I did the wire to coinbase. I will let you know how fast I get credit for it.

I have not linked my debit card to coinbase, only my credit card, but I imagine the purchase limit they impose is the same for debit cards vs credit cards?
Also, is the debit card fee the same as their credit card fee?
I hate giving coinbase so much money in fees to use the credit cards and I can only buy $750 right now, which sucks.

If you don't mind me asking, how are you getting your fiat into crypto? Gemini or other?

Thanks

Yeah, let me know. You’re right the limit is the same. I get my coins from a Coinsource ATM in North beach, SF.

Hi, surprisingly, they credited the wire the same day. It probably took around 6 hrs from when it was made.
Now I am not sure what to do since everything keeps going down.
I was going to go on a buying spree last night, but I am glad I didn't.
Nothing but hold what I already have and try to buy at some point soon.
Good luck!

How do you get your BTC or ETH quick and with low fees?

ACH takes like a week on coinbase and a wire still takes couple days when you want to use Fiat to buy BTC or ETH.

The cheapest as far as fees goes is to do the ACH transfer and wait about a week, which is terrible.
Then for the wire your bank charges you for the wire and still takes couple days to show up on Coinbase.

So, how do you guys buy your BTC and ETH so that you pay minimal fees and wait less time for fiat to arrive at your exchange?
Any other USA based exchange that is faster for fiat to show up or other ways I have no clue about?

Also, are you guys buying BTC or ETH when you want to buy Altcoins?
If you buy BTC and want to send to another exchange you end up paying a large fee sending BTC and it takes a while to arrive versus ETH which you can use for buying alt coins too,
so what is your choice for buying altcoins and sending to Binance for example? BTC or ETH

I appreciate your insight on this.

Professional trader recommendation please?

Hello guys,

I have seen many professional traders giving advice on what to buy and when to sell, for a monthly fee, of course.

In your opinion, which traders are worth their fees and are not a scam?

Their fees can be hefty, so I appreciate you suggestions before I bite the bullet.

Thanks a lot.

Also, any groups (telegram or whatever)? thanks

The Binance withdrawal thing is frustrating at times.. but i see it as a cost of doing business in these crazy crypto times. The suspended withdrawal system seems to only happen to super high vol coins (IOTA constantly... but with their POS Wallet, I feel by IOTAs are safer on Binance.)

Hopefully the suspension of new accounts will give them time to bulk up their exchange platform. However Binance is the most functional exchange out there.

Bittrex has been closed for new accounts since mid December so I have no experience at all with that one, do they do the same? (stop withdrawals)

Also, I will look into buying a hardware wallet. Is the Ledger Nano the best?

Binance is supposed to be a great exchange, yet I can't withdraw a couple of alt coins I have there. I mean they disabled sending to a wallet.
you can only trade it for ETH or BTC.
Basically keeping you hostage.

Does this happen in every exchange?

Storing Altcoins on exchanges and trust issues

Hi folks, I am new to cryptos and this forum, please don't crucify me.  Grin

I had a few questions if you could please give me some insight.

With so many altcoins and high volatility/uncertainty, do you keep your coins in the exchange you bought them just in case you need to sell them quickly and for convenience?
I am using Binance at the moment (graduated from Coinbase/Gdax).
If you store in your PC wallet or any other type and you need to sell quickly, you can lose a lot of money if there is any glitch or delay when transferring back to the exchange, so I was wondering about this.

Also, how do yo know who to trust when you see someone talking favorably about a particular coin?
It looks to me that everyone and their mother are pumping to then dump without telling anyone so they can maximize profits, so can you even trust those groups I have read you guys follow?

Any suggestions for a reliable group to follow?

Thanks a lot.
