Re: Can each new coin have random properties?
by
Stonetium
on 26/05/2018, 22:24:44 UTC
Hello,

I'm familiarizing myself with blockchain and cryptocurrencies.
I was wondering if from a technical perspective it would be possible that when a new coin gets mined, it would be possible that it receives random properties that are saved within the coin?

I've had the idea to use blockchain and/or cryptocurrencies to create some kind of virtual card game, like magic the gathering or Blizzards Heart Stone. Each coin/token would represent a card, and within each coin/token, additional information would be saved that will be generated when the coin is mined and can not be modified, which would represent the cards attributes.

From a technical perspective, is that even possible to store fixed random properties within a coin/token?

Yes, cryptokitties and a lot of "trading style" apps are coming around

Re: Bitcoin will be used as a donation to the church
by
Stonetium

I agree to used bitcoin as a donation for some reasons.

1. People who give great help to the church are becoming increasingly anonymous.

2. It is easier to monitor the entire proceeds and avoid suspicion of having a claim.

3. The transaction is faster and less expensive

This is just my opinion.

Re: Manually generate a mnemonic for ledger nano s
by
Stonetium
on 22/05/2018, 02:18:43 UTC
Hi,

i will shorty receive my ledger nano s and i am try to be as much paranoid as possible.  Cheesy

So, i don't fully understand the details about the mnemonic generation on the device, but it must somehow interact with my computer to collect any kind of entropy for the mnemonic words. Being paranoid means, i don't trust this approach and i would like to generate the mnemonic myself. Should be a little work, but not impossible. I just print out the full 2048 words list and flip coins to get a word from the list. Should be 11 coin flips each word times 23 = 253 coin flips. Totally doable.

Problem is, the 24th word is a checksum. Can anyone help me how to get this checksum manually? Is that even possible? I don't want to use any electronics at all...

Thanks in advance.

In case you didnt, make sure you get it straight from the website. Careful of 3rd party buyers

Re: Analytics of Bitcoin prices by the end of 2019
by
Stonetium
on 18/05/2018, 21:24:01 UTC
I would like to tell you about the analyst of the Bitcoin price by the end of 2019 on the basis of the dynamics of a hashtraite

Due to mining Bitcoin price will rise to $ 36,000 by 2019
A new study by Fundstrat Global Advisors shows that by the end of 2019 the price of bitcoin will reach $ 36,000,reported co-founder Tom Lee.
Analysis of the relationship between the cost of mining and the price made it possible to conclude that the price of the cryptocurrency will vary between $ 20,000 and $ 64,000 by the end of 2019.
These calculations take into account the price of BTC in relation to the profitability of mining, which shows "a reliable long-term level of support."
"We expect the mining economy to grow over the next few years and the bitcoin price will reach around $ 36,000"

What do you think about it?

Thanks for sharing, but do you have a link?

Re: POW vs. POS
by
Stonetium
on 17/05/2018, 19:41:00 UTC
Is there anyway for someone to explain this in not so technical terms, the pros and cons of both of these and what they are?

From my understanding:

POW (proof of work) is bitcoin Coin being mined through mining rigs using computers. The first computer that finds the answer distributes it to the network and it is added to the blockchain and the miner gets a reward. So the proof of work is the computer computation.

POS (proof of stake) is bitcoin Coin being mined staking that coin over an arbitrary amount of time. You hold the coin and get more of that coin, because you hold it.

Is this correct?

I did some edits on your quote and your understanding is correct.

Let me come to Pros and Cons.

POW: It is costly method as you need Hardware(sometimes specialized also)and lot of electricity is used.
For Network big like Bitcoin, 51 % attack cost is too high but for some new coin where network is not so big (or do not have many miners)
51% attack  can be successfully executed.
It make coin fully decentralized and anybody is free to mine.

POS: It is cheap method and no specialized hardware is required. Electricity requirement are also minimal.
One who has large stash of the coin will get big share, making rich more richer.
If coin holders want to keep somebody out of network they are able to do so by not distributing there coins outside their network.

Great writeup. I'd also just want to add POS also encourages holding

If you have time then look at the television business news, TVs in my country are always active memmberitakan various negative news about bitcoin, and badly there is very unbalanced source because it always presents someone who does not like bitcoin.

In the US there are ads for it (blockchain) that play during NBA and NFL games. It's looking good over here
