Re: People Are Just Too Stupid to Use Bitcoin Right Now
by

on 12/04/2016, 09:02:15 UTC
It is not that stupid to use Bitcoin now around this time,

That's not the point of this thread whether bitcoin is stupid. It's that people are too stupid. I disagree. The biggest issue with the masses is bitcoin doesn't really offer them anything so why use it? Sure we could argue it's a good investment and there's money to be made but for those who bought in at 1000 dollars are still in a massive loss so it's not a risk free investment.

Re: Is bitcoin being used for illegal activities
by

Bitcoin is favored by criminals because it's harder to trace back to the perpetrators when they decide to cash back into the physical world if they have used obfuscation services like a coin mixer. It's not impossible to trace but it's definitely harder than asking for a ransom in marked bills in a briefcase for example. Also the crooks can be anywhere in the world and still can commit extortion without leaving their house.

Bitcoin is perfect for use in ransoms and I'm sure it will be used/requested as ransom more often in the future but I think cash is still very good for criminals for most other things. Two drug dealers meet in secret and exchange cash for product and there's no way to know the deal ever happened without some other intel. In fact certain govs are thinking about getting rid of high denomination notes because they're frequently used by criminals to transport funds.

And where's the source for these rumors? Don't propagate bullshit if you can't even back it up.

If he becomes president I think hes more likely to ban it if not declare war on it because you know... only terrorists and criminals use it.
LOL, Bitcoin is not used by terrorists, if you read news, you must know it. (REF: http://cointelegraph.com/news/terrorists-not-using-

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic and just using the cliche line the lazy non-bitcoin using public use.

Re: Are you holding your bitcoin for a price increase?
by

Is there any reason aside from price increase when a user holds it's bitcoin?

It's all about the price and not the technology. People are holding because of money.

Not always. People might just be saving like they do with cash. When people put money in banks they rarely do it just for the interest (which is minimal these days and not worth it anyway unless you have huge sums of cash that can be tied up long term).

Re: The Halving - Good or Bad for Bitcoin?
by

Depends on what happens. I think it will be good if the price skyrockets (which it should) as that will get bitcoin mentioned in the media again and hopefully get more laggards on board, but if it crashes back down soon after in will come all the negative press attention about it becoming another bubble. Hopefully the price will rise and stabalise pretty nicely and avoid a crash.

Re: paypal or bitcoin?
by

I use them both for different things. I would only use Paypal with ebay for instance as Paypal is great if there's a dispute between the seller or if you get scammed because you'll easily get your money back but that's where it can be abused by criminals. You could easily get scammed using bitcoin though if you didn't use an escro. But bitcoin is great for purchasing services like hosting and proxies or if you wanted to buy stuff from the deepweb you're going to have to use bitcoin  Grin so both have their uses and positives or negatives.

Re: Do you still believe in bitcoin

im pretty sure almost everyone on the forum believes in bitcoin.if they didnt, what would they be doing on this forum lol.

as for myself, i think bitcoin has great potential, which is why im holding on to it. until it skyrockets.

People who don't think Bitcoin will be a future currency or when they simply don't like it enough, they just stay here for the signature campaigns to earn some bucks. Just look at the newbies who are joining as their first posts are 'Where can I join a signature campaign?' & 'How to earn money quick?' etc.

Yeah this is what I was going to say. I'm sure there's lots of people here who don't give a fuck about bitcoin and just post here to get bitcoin which they will cash out as soon as they get it. Not that that's a bad thing really as anyone who uses bitcoin is helping spread adoption but I get the feeling if it wasn't for signature campaigns half the members wouldn't be here or would leave if the campaigns dissapeard.

I joined up over here in 2012-13. At the time it seemed like a way to make a quick buck. Overtime as i read about it more and more, i became interested in the freedom it provides. As time has went on however, my interest and belief in bitcoin have waned. I won't get into the details of why, but i'm wondering what your honest opinion of bitcoin is, with a simple vote, and possibly an explanation.

I think you should state your reasons why. You can still easily make money either by buying low and selling high or joining a signature campaign. My excitement about bitcoin my have wained a little but I still believe in it but realize it will likely take time before we ever see any big gains again. I have patience, though.

I'm not holding my coins for a price increase per se but rather holding them for the long term (though naturally I expect their value in the future to have risen). If bitcoin is going to be adopted by the mainstream it will take a while but I have the patience.

I keep most of my funds offline just in their wallet.dat, but I have a little in blockchain.info so I can make payments quickly and from my phone on the go but I also have some on a ledger nano (which is a cheap and secure hardware wallet if you want to buy a physical wallet).

If you think there aren't going to be any more gox-type situations of massive thefts from others you're being quite naive. Any site or person who holds bitcoins no matter how small or large is going to be a target. The more coins you have the bigger target you'll become.

Has anyone tried using Trezor? been tempted to buy one but i don't know if it's any good than using online wallet.

I would just go with a Ledger Nano instead. Very affordable and secure in my opinion. Much cheaper than a Trezor too https://www.ledgerwallet.com/products/1-ledger-nano

Re: Why You Should Never Sell Your Bitcoins Ever
by
Sugarape
on 12/10/2015, 14:42:07 UTC
So basically you are saving if Bitcoin reaches 10,000 dollars it would be a bad idea to sell.  I disagree with that.  I am not saying sell every coin you have but it would be worth it to sell some of the coins.  What if Bitcoin stays at $240 dollars for the rest of time, and you have 10,000BTC.  It might not be a bad idea to sell some of those coins and make some actual fiat cash as well.  What if Bitcoin crashes, then the best time to sell them would be now.  There are plenty of times you should sell.

This reasoning may have value if you have big quantity of bitcoins. If you have few (for example 10 or 20 bitcoins) this kind of behavior is not possible. If i sell some of those with the actual price they don't give me to much. On  the other hand I "lose" my bitcoins which I think could have much higher price in the future. I write "think" because are qualities of it which make me to hope that bitcoin might have a much higher price in the future).

Why do you need big quantities? If you have 10-20 selling one or two inst a big deal. I wouldn't mind selling a couple if it skyrocketed but it depends how much by but I would still rather keep most of them.

Re: How earn 1BTC a year?
by
Sugarape
on 28/09/2015, 11:49:21 UTC
It's quite easy to earn that amount from this forum alone. As many others have said signature campaigns are your best bet. You could even create a couple of accounts then sell them eventually. Hero accounts seem to go for 0.5 btc so if you had 2 you could make 1btc right there though I think it takes 1.5 years to get a Hero account.

Re: Why you should use Bitcoin Core

I think different wallets suit different people and their needs. The average Joe doesn't really need to use bitcoin core and lite clients are much better for them.

Re: How easy is to get started using the Bitcoin Core wallet?

I wonder how easy is for a regular Joe to get the bitcoin core wallet and just sync with the blockchain on average machine?

I know there are wallets like Electrum and Armory and zillions of online wallets around the internet, but if someone find bitcoin download the software and start it up, how would his experience be?

It's easy you just have to wait for the entire blocchain which can take hours even days. For the average joe I would just use a lite client.

If there is no risk in taking loans then i may also go for loan.
Because if they take loan they can get interest on it.

There is always risk unless you're  covered with collateral, but the most risk is on the lender especially when they put faith and trust in the borrower and that's when scams happen but lending money when you already have it is silly in my opinion.

Re: BTC is dropping fast, but don't panic!

It doesn't matter if it goes to 1 dollar if you are here long term. In 10 years anyone holding double figures of BTC will be rich and the idiots without future vision will cry for days. It's a basic law of life.

It would certainly matter of it went to 1 dollar. Something would almost certainly be up and wrong if it went to that value and miners would abandon it like rats from a sinking ship because they're not going to mine for free. I agree that the price today doesnt matter that much and it hopefully will be a different story in 5-10 years.

Re: Promoting a Bitcoin business
by
Sugarape
on 17/08/2015, 10:41:27 UTC
Just keep in mind that you need to have targeted audience, just like in any other business. For this reason, i would suggest you choose any of
the related options; forum auction ads, signature campaign, or any of the advertising services that are targeting bitcoin audience.

cheers

I'd be curious to know about the profitability of forum ads (the ones that are auctioned off). I've always wondered.

Each business will be different but its impossible to tell how profitable any sort of advertisement is, but what it does do is get your name out there which you should concentrate more on rather than just trying to turn a profit in the first month which likely isn't going to happen. I think signature campaigns can be cheaper and give you much more exposure, though.
