[Hiring] Audio Contract
by
Surprise
on 27/10/2014, 22:07:39 UTC
[X-Post from /r/jobs4bitcoins]

I'm working on a game that connects elements of a musical track to the gameplay directly. In order for me to make the gameplay, I need to know when and what things happen in a track in a precise and explicit way.

The job is to take this track and break it down into bars and notes, then fill up a step sequencer with each bar and note so the song can be replayed that way and I can verify each element is correctly placed and timed.
Contractors may use whatever mainstream audio software they work best with for this task, provided they tell me what they plan to use in their offer. At the end of the job they will transfer the audio software's native file to me so I can open it with the same software on my end.

I have contacted the artist requesting the files used to make this track, and he has informed me they are not available as the song was recorded in a studio, and does not appear interested in doing the above task, even for compensation. The work is public domain with a creative commons license and I am not modifying the end product, using it for commercial purposes, or even exporting the song from the audio software, so I believe I am within my legal and ethical rights to request this.

I have done successfully done business many times in the past on /r/jobs4bitcoins and bitcointalk. Check my post history if you wish to verify this. I am also willing to pay half your fee up front when I accept your bid.
I will be accepting offers via PM for the next 24 hours after this post. Let me know what software you will be using, how long it will take you to complete the task, how much you are asking for in compensation, and a short description of relevant experience. After the time period is up, I will post in this thread to let people know if a contractor has been chosen.

Please ask any questions you have about this contract in the public thread so others with similar questions can see my reply.
Thanks!!

Bitcoin's Transaction Volume in USD Increasing
by
Surprise
on 20/10/2014, 21:53:44 UTC
I'm interested in studying Bitcoin's real economic activity. This is one of my favorite metrics for doing so. Unfortunately, the transaction volume per day changes greatly, resulting in graphs that are difficult to gain insight from. In order to overcome this limitation, I took the data from the daily graph and used it to create weekly instead of daily averages. I also averaged out one outlier day that I believe was adding more noise than insight. I find these graphs uniquely informative and thought others would like to see them too.

Weekly Transaction Volume

Below is the same graph with the week's average price included on a secondary Y axis.

Weekly Transaction Volume With Average Price

I've also included a version with the weekly sum of major western Bitcoin exchanges on the secondary Y axis, instead of average price.

Weekly Transaction Volume With Exchange Volume

Sources:

Daily Transaction Volume USD
Price Data
Volume Data
Notes:

-Bitcoin Average did not collect price or exchange volume data for June 26th, 2014. I averaged data between June 25th, 2014 and June 27th, 2014 to produce an estimation of June 26th, 2014.

-The graph with the weekly exchange volume does not include data from Chinese exchanges, which I believe to be mostly useless when studying the real economic activity of Bitcoin.

-On May 25th, 2014 the daily transaction volume was $179,516,928. I took the average of every other day in Week 5, $54,934,653, and used that to remove the outlier.

-On June 11th - June 13th, 2014, the daily transaction volume was exceptionally high, distorting that week's average greatly. I could not think of a reasonable way to remove these outliers, and therefore left them in.

Hello Bitcointalk! I picked up a few coins back in December 2012, and like anyone with a few coins, I've been watching the price ever since. It has certainly been a ride for all of us, so I thought it would be fun to make a game to remember those crazy times. Levels are generated procedurally from real trade data. At the moment, I have the following episodes from bitcoin's history made into levels.

  • Silk Road Shutdown
  • Senate Hearings on Bitcoin
  • Mt Gox's Bankruptcy Announcement

Levels are also generated from dynamic periods, i.e the last day or the last week.

Below are a few screenshots:

Please note that Unity Web Player does not support Linux. I've provided a desktop build for all the Linux users out there, which can be found at the bottom of the page.

[WTB] Mining Pool Leaderboard Downloader
by
Surprise
on 13/08/2013, 03:59:08 UTC
I want a program that will periodically sweep the below mining pool's top user/top contributor/top miner lists and save the data to a .csv file. Make it easy for me to set the sweep rate. Append new data to the old file. I'm running through this file with code of my own so please ensure formatting is consistent.

The .csv file will have the below format.

***POOL NAME***
***ISO 8601 TIMESTAMP UTC TIMEZONE***
Top User #1 Name, Top User #1 Hashrate
Top User #2 Name, Top User #2 Hashrate
etc up to top 10.
-Do not go past 10.
-If name is anonymous just write anonymous and then the hashrate.

The mining pools I want to sweep are these:
-BTCGuild
-50BTC
-Slush
-Eligius

The URLs for these pool's leaderboards are easy to find and static targets.

This should not be too hard for developers familiar with regular expressions.

I've done successful business in the past on both reddit.com/r/jobs4bitcoins and bitcointalk.org's services subforum. Here are people I've dealt with. PM them if you want to ensure I'm legit.

Bitcointalk:
-John K
-Ozymandias
-Eveofwar
-Yurock

Reddit:
-Silfax
-iuRoK

I tip generously for above average work done within deadlines. I like to buy code and I try to build lasting relationships with people who prove themselves exceptional. Blow me away and I may have some great opportunities for you.

I'll be accepting PM'd offers in the next 24 hours. I'll post in the thread when I have chosen a candidate so you know if you got the gig or not.

[WTB] BTCT/Bitfunder Order Books Downloader
by
Surprise
on 03/08/2013, 20:51:49 UTC
I need an application that downloads current BTCT/Bitfunder order books repeatedly and saves their data to my hard drive.

This app should be generic enough that I feed it a URL or security name and it gets the order books for that security.

Each security on each exchange will write to its own .csv file.

If there is an existing .csv file for that security, it will append the new data. If there is not an existing .csv file for that security, it will create a new .csv file.

Each line in this .csv file will be in this format: Bid Quantity, Bid Price, Ask Price, Ask Quantity, ISO 8601 Date/Time (UTC Time Zone).

If a bid does not have a corresponding ask or vice versa, do not write it. For example, if there are 20 bids in an order book and 19 asks, do not write the 20th bid.

I do business regularly on bitcointalk and /r/jobs4bitcoins. I can provide sources to vouch for me if you like. I pay half up front and half after it is done and I can see it meets my specifications. If you're interested, PM me an offer of how much you want to create this app. Also let me know when you will have it done by. I'll get back to you if your offer is the most competitive ~48 hours from now. Feel free to ask any questions in this thread so others can see the answers.

I'm sincerely confused why all the hype is with labcoin and not BTCGarden. What part of "we're gonna deploy 200TH by the end of October and then 300TH more by the end of the year" do people not understand?

While I condemn Ken blowing a deadline he himself stated, and have shares locked up myself, I think that given the events of the past week or so we should not cry over spilt milk. Ken is proving himself to be a very adept player at this bitcoin mining game and he has made a lot of people here considerably wealthier. I think some gratitude is in order given everything this man has done not only this past week, but since the beginning back in April. Lets not forget who is in the arena and who is merely in the bleachers.

So what is it that VE is going to do when he gets the shares on BTCT? Not to be an idiot but I read the past few pages and I still can't figure it out. I wasn't on the IRC chat so I don't have access to that info. Is he going to balance the price on exchanges or what?

... a bunch of updates and a random email ...

+1

Great post, well written. The plans have been laid out plainly since the beginning.

It looks like somebody is doing something, but that is not a plan.

The purpose of providing a plan to investors is so that they can evaluate the company and verify for themselves that the goals that the company has set for itself are actually achievable.

I want something that I can take to industry experts and ask them if this company has a realistic plan as well as the resources and experience to pull it off.

Fanboys don't care about any of that, of course.

What "industry experts"? Bitcoin mining is a new industry and is currently in a state of revolution from where it was at just 6 months ago. Ken has provided enough details as to his intentions and how he will realize them for someone who has done research into the situation. You're going to have to look into things yourself to decide if AM is worth it or not...

I think the situation we're in here is kind of a paradoxical one. The value of the company increases a lot when the NRE funds are raised, but decreases a lot if the funds are not raised. Therefore investors are loath to buy in at the top of the wall when the odds of it dropping seem low. But they will be so eager to buy once the wall gets lower. So we're in a situation where we just need to see a decent chunk of the wall fall before a feedback cycle gets triggered like so. Wall gets lower > investors decide to buy > wall gets even lower > more investors decide to buy.

Anyone care to take that first big chunk out?  Grin

Thanks for clearing things up Ken. I think this merger will work out fine for me and my options. I also appreciate the ability to invest in AMC or VMC depending on my opinions of the value of hardware selling or snowballing mining power.

I read the proposed offer for VMC and I believe it says VMC may buy AMC shares on the open market. I take it this will happen after the merger period if VMC views AMC as undervalued at a current market price?

Ken - I believe this operation will be a success and I've bought a lot of 2-3 month call options to AMC shares. I'd appreciate it if you take guys like me into consideration when setting the expiration date for the AMC to VMC share swap deadline.

We need to make sure there is a way to make Surprise (and any others in this position) whole.

The first Google hit I found for what happens to an option following a stock split, is here:

http://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/03/092103.asp

The answer might help us figure out a solution.

This is really not a stock split, it is a swap, 1 share of AMC for 1 share of VMC when approved for trading.  The option owner are placing there bets and it up to them to guess right on the timing.  As an option trader myself I understand their concerns.

I made the options trades before any of the merger announcements on the basis of the existing AMC description on both exchanges and previous statements from Ken on this forum. I'm concerned in 2-3 months there won't be anyone to buy my AMC shares or any way to exchange them for VMC shares. I hope I'm not going to get punished for taking Ken at his word.

The stock price may slide as investors panic but the company is not going under. Ken said has all the money he needs for now. He is selling shares because more money would be nice but not because it is a necessity. I think this post announcement storm is blowing over and soon things will change.

I'm pretty sure swede got me mixed up with lolstate lol.

Lolstate - good luck getting options out of these guys, I tried for about a day straight and had no luck. There are some decent ones on BTCT if you're hungry. I might pick em up in a day or so if I'm in a double down mood.

Yeah I suppose it is necessary to write it off as trolling, I thought they were sincere for awhile so I suppose I've been successfully trolled for the last day or so. In the end I got the options I wanted so I'm just gonna leave it for now. Nice doing business with you Ozy. If anyone else wants to throw up 90 day options on BTCT and BF I'm definitely going to consider buying those. Make an attractive offer and I'll bite.
