Re: Bitcoin documentary: Argentina

Is Bitcoin really catching on in Argentina, or is it Cyprus all over again?

This would be your best resource to try to figure that out.

https://localbitcoins.com/country/ar

Actually, there is much more exchange going on via the mailing list here: http://wiki.eudemocracia.org/en/bitcoin

I've been subscribed to that list for three months now and the amount of buy/sell requests has exploded. I would guess at least a couple dozen new topics are started every day.

Not me.  I've already done my share of selling without being able to rebuy.

Wait, so you're in?

The Bitcoin market is booming.
The internet's favorite virtual currency is up over 230 percent since the beginning of the year and up 40 percent from Monday to Wednesday alone.
The latest leg up may be because it looks like the market may finally be going mainstream – now, U.S. banks are getting involved.

The Promo Bay and Bitcoin
by
SwarmStream
on 15/02/2013, 17:17:41 UTC
For those unfamiliar, The Promo Bay is a program where The Pirate Bay promotes independent artists by putting their logos and links to their websites on The Pirate Bay home page for the weekend. The artists' works are distributed as torrents for free but they typically direct users to their website where they provide donation options.

TorrentFreak has an article up today about how this weekend's Promo Bay Artists (game developers) found themselves in this fortunate position: http://torrentfreak.com/pirated-indie-game-devs-get-full-pirate-bay-support-to-crack-steam-120215/

These game devs just learned about bitcoin today and added a donation address to their website:
https://twitter.com/AnodyneGame/status/302452608843526144
http://www.anodynegame.com/

It would be great if The Promo Bay also promoted artist compensation via Bitcoin. If you agree, you can send The Pirate Bay the suggestion here: http://thepiratebay.se/contact

They certainly won't ever accept it if their users never request it.

Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics

Hi piuk,

I noticed that the receive api callback from blockchain.info is no longer immediate. I was accepting zero-confirmation payments successfully up until maybe a couple of weeks ago. Here is an example of a generated address for which I'm still awaiting blockchain.info's response: https://blockchain.info/address/14TdZ3nRTcfLUkRUb8DUTXUZf8Pe6pPwEG

Did you make a change to the callback so it no longer responds immediately?

Thanks.

EDIT: FYI, I am using the anonymous payments option.
EDIT2: I finally got a response after 4 confirmations. How can I avoid this delay and get an immediate, zero-confirmation response?

¡Gracias, Narydu!

Announcement: As a result of the rise in BTC value, the per GB rate has been reduced to BTC0.03.

looks really well done, I'm surprised that there aren't any replies in this topic.. few months ago a similar service went online and people were really interested, but it was buggy.

Thanks. The bugs in that other service motivated me to create a functional version of what I find to be an incredibly useful service.

Gallippi believes that between 10 and 100 million people will use Bitcoin within three years.

Does anyone know how Tony arrived at this estimate?

Don't you know he have a crystal ball?  Roll Eyes

Haha, I hope it's accurate!

I found the secure connection site worked but open connection not ... i.e. use
https://mega.co.nz

EDIT: oooh, looks like an API https://mega.co.nz/#developers and lots of back-end info is being made available also ... maybe not be too hard for 3rd party to bolt on a bitcoin-enabled service anyway ??

That's my intention. Smiley

been trying to get funds into gox since last week. Finally put in a support ticket and today they said they had to talk with their dev team as to why it took so long. Still waiting for the funds but at least they said it was in the que.

bullocks.

Coinbase.com is my favorite method for buying and selling but it might only be available to US citizens. You have to link your bank account with your Coinbase account but that is painless as they don't require any of the identity validation like Gox and Dwolla. You do have to wait the 3-5 business days or so to receive your coins, but the exchange rate is locked in as soon as you initiate the purchase. And the fee is only 1%, so if you're a casual buyer, it's an excellent (perhaps the best?) option.

2013-01-11 WorldCrunch.com - SILK ROAD: DEEP INSIDE THE INTERNET HIDES A BOOMING
by

Fail:

On Silk Road, payments are made through Bitcoin, the electronic payment system that leaves no traces. The site automatically generates a virtual currency through a series of computers networked together. All you need to buy some of this currency is a credit card. You register your Bitcoin account with the site and then you are ready to purchase what you want, in total anonymity.
