I had that same problem you must write your user number not the nickname in the form, go to your user profile and on the link that goes on the page you will see a number, it is that number that asks you

example:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=137745

the number: 137745

Thanks!!!

Having issues establishing connections. I managed to download the blockchain, but after setting up encryption and restarting the wallet (windows, btw), I'm getting "out of sync" with no bar listing how many blocks behind (just the red text near "Wallet" and "Recent transactions").

I tried adding the nodes from the first page as well as the huge list a few pages back. It didn't seem to work through Ember.conf (assuming I'm setting it up right) and so I entered them (painstakingly) one at a time via the debug window. Occasionally I'll get a connection-sometimes up to 3 or 4-for a few minutes, but the problem persists. On top of not being able to stake, I recently transferred a good deal more EMB to my wallet that I can't access until it syncs.

Lastly, the wallet doesn't seem to want to close properly, I need to shut it down through task manager. Kaspersky identified it as a virus, I added it to exclusions, but I'm wondering if maybe this could be affecting something?

Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated.

Re: Today, Bitcoin dump ?

Can anyone tell me what is happening to Bitcoin? BTC price from 4660 dropped 4k1 and still continues to decrease, investors and trade as I'm feeling very confused. Give me some advice right now, so I can calm down.

I'm not as experienced as some of these other posters. I've only seen 4 or 5 major corrections/crashes during my time in bitcoin and every time it scares the living hell out of me. Every time I worry that this drop is different, the bubble finally burst, that a repeat of 2014/2015 is coming, etc. and it always recovers. Interestingly, I'm told that is a very common worry among inexperienced traders in all markets; that the market will crash and not recover. Settle down, breathe deep, it will all work out just fine.

My advice to you would be no different than many others you've heard: It's normal and all part of this game. Hold. Look at it as a buying opportunity.

Interesting side-note: I actually found this forum while trying to locate a place to express my concerns and seek reassurances during a crash just like you. My first post was very similar to this. It was considerably more dramatic than yours. I was going for funny, think I came off as whiny.

There are rumours that Chinese authorities shut down local Chinese exchanges. I do not know whether this also holds to Hong Kong based exchanges. If so it could hit major exchanges like Bittrex.

Trex is based in china??? That's news to me. Did you maybe mean Bitmex? Or that the US could follow suit?

I see, thanks for the responses! You learn something new every day. That's really clever for a scam, if that's really what's happening.

Here's some more info about counterparty and the go to wallet if your curious: https://counterparty.io/docs/faq-counterwallet/. Lots of good projects run on it, and, even though it's a smaller and less commonly used one, I've always felt that any platform that can run independent projects has a lot of room for growth.

I'm confused - you find a random private key on the internet and decide to send btc to the wallet? I thought that with the private key you can just load up a new wallet, input the private key, and now you can sign transactions for that wallet and send the transactions to the blockchain. What do you get out of sending the btc to the wallet, or am I being dumb and what you did made sense?

Counterparty and it's assets (SJCX, DTB, COVAL, PEPE, etc.) don't have their own unique blockchain, but rather embed data into Bitcoin's blockchain. They ride along BTC transactions if that helps. As a result, you send Counterparty assets to a BTC address, but in order to transfer them from the wallet you need some BTC in the wallet as well to cover the network fees. This wallet has XCP/EGOLD in it but no BTC, so in order to sweep the former you need to send a bit of the latter. You need .001224 BTC to remove both the EGOLD and XCP or .000356 BTC for only the XCP. You can also enter the private key of a Bitcoin address and attempt to sweep it that way, but I don't want to try it.

Here's the public key if you want to check out the contents at counterwallet.io: 1DxzwX4qC9PsWDSAzuWbJRzEwdGx3n9CJB.

It's a pretty brilliant way to scam small amounts of money off unsuspecting people. You really can't even be that mad at the guy who created it as you were trying to take the goods from a wallet that wasn't yours in the first place.

I was having some issues sweeping coins from my counterwallet and while searching for help I found a topic by someone who was having the same issue. The guy acted like he didn't know what he was doing and put both his public and private keys in the post. Checking out the wallet showed it contained 7.4 XCP and 1,000,000 egold (now defunct). The post was several years old and so I assumed it was forgotten about and tried to sweep the XCP (hey, it was just sitting there all those years...). I sent the BTC required for the transfer and as soon as the deposit was confirmed, the BTC was taken out. I tried once more before realizing what was going on. Instant karma. That's what I get for trying to steal somebody's 7.4 XCP.

It's clever. What is it just a script that checks for incoming BTC and takes it before it can be used by counterwallet? (I know nothing about programming)

I'm wondering if this only a new concept to me. I've only been crypto for a bit over a year. Have these been around? I can post the keys if anyone is curious - I didn't know if it would be against the rules to do so.

QUESTION: How many here use Telegram? It is growing more and more popular with Crypto than Slack, so i was considering creating a Augmentors Game slack channel in the future, hopefully a official one.

Telegram 100%. It's sort of become the standard for crypto. I'd love to see this!

Hope your meeting goes well!

Wallet syncing issues (INSN)
by
TCortese
on 01/08/2017, 04:11:30 UTC
First, I have no idea if this is the right place for this and I do apologize if it is not. Please move as appropriate.

So I'm trying to break this horrible habit I have of keeping my smaller alt bags on exchanges (I know, I know...) and so I'm moving my Cryptopia coins to their respective windows wallets. I downloaded the INSaNe wallet and it's currently stuck 5 weeks behind. There's definite connection, it isn't wonderful (2 active), but it's there. Stuck after processing 6627 blocks for almost 12hr now. It's truly stuck.

I've had this happen before and I've simply deleted app data and started over, but I sent some INSN to my address before syncing was done and, well, you get the idea...

If I'm totally honest, I've relied far too heavily on exchange wallets in the past when I've held large amounts of alts and I'm nowhere near as well versed in this subject as I should be. I'm working on it.

Where do I go from here? I suspect clearing the right portion of appdata will restart the syncing (obviously) and fix it, but I obviously do not want to delete anything I need.

Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

If you've been really trading for more than a year, you should definitely know that this drop is only going to be temporary

I've watched a few $100 drops before, but a few things are different this time:

A) I never held enough for it to affect me too much
B) My alt bags used to pump when BTC dropped
C) This is REALLY starting to feel like a bubble

It's the last one that killed me as I'm not sure how the bursting of said bubble would affect my bags long term.

With that said, I think it's a mistake to assume BTC will do nothing but rise in the future.

OK, first let me thank everyone who responded.

Reading the responses, if there is one thing I was reminded of, it's my faith in this technology. Every coin I'm holding, I purchased not because I saw a quick buck, but due to the fundamentals/strong dev/good concept/etc. It's just hard as hell for me to watch my portfolio drop by two weeks worth of work at my day job every time I check it. My stomach isn't strong enough for that nonsense. You veteran permahodlers have my deepest respect...

Twas but a moment of weakness. It's passed now.

"What do you think about your question? You already had your answer. "

You're 100% right. This did a better job of putting things in perspective than I can say. Thanks!

...and now that that's done, embarrassment aside, I must admit I'm thrilled I went seeking out a place to placate my frightened mind as this seems to be a great community. Came for the reassurance, think I'll stay for the knowledge. Thanks!

T.

I'm sure there are a bunch of posts like this today and I'm sure you all are getting sick of hearing it. I am TRULY sorry. I'm usually VERY self sufficient, but I NEED reassurance today. I tried not to post this, but I couldn't help myself.

Been trading for around a year (crypto anyway, some pennies/forex for a few years back in college), wasn't until past few months that I started seeing REAL profit (like most I imagine...). I lost lots by panicking on those red days back in June. It turns out I don't handle this sort of pressure well. Not well at all...

Knowing this, I was going to move into fiat a few weeks back in preparation for the scaling issue FUD and corresponding dump, but I decided that I had the intestinal fortitude to keep a portion of my portfolio in small cap coins, dumps be damned. At first it was 1/10th, then 1/4, and by the end of June I was gobbling up shitcoins like hungry hippos eat white marbles, constantly telling myself "bah, I can handle any losses knowing that they are only temporary". I have about 1/2 my portfolio in low cap alts.

I was WAITING for today, for something FAR worse than today, for the mythical 1500-1800 everyone keeps talking about, the pools and pools of blood flowing like a river through the streets, yet I'm already freaking the f*ck out. It turns out my hands are not strong. Not even a little. They're like little baby hands that shake like leaves at the first sight of a daily close below 2200.

BUT, I should continue to hodl at this point right?

I have patience, I'll hold for years, that's not a problem, but my imagination has me thinking that the cryptobubble just burst and we'll never see prices like the past few months again. Just somebody PLEASE tell me this thought is stupid and completely without merit. That I'm not the only one hodling. To uninstall Blockfolio so that I'm not constantly grabbing my phone. That we will see 3k again by the end of the year. That it will all be OK in the end...

I'm also open to any suggestions you vets have on how you get through these times. Experience?

For what it's worth from someone with 1 post, GMB ICO was being hyped up to holy hell in various trollboxes in the crypto community a few days back. I've seen comments by several individuals (one was "Deadpool") in the trollboxes at Bitmex and Polo exclaiming "Next 100x coin!" with a link to the ICO announcement thread here. I've never invested in an ICO before and was giving serious thought to GMB until I saw the comments were by the same person as well as redcastle's comments in the now abandoned ANN thread.
