Re: What cryptocurrency is closest to my ideal? Monero?
by

I suggest that you do not buy any XMR (or any other currency) until you do a lot more research.  As others have pointed out there are some problems with some of the criteria you are looking for (for example in terms of how they may impact privacy or scaling).

I suggest you start by looking at this site with 100+ Q&A already

https://monero.stackexchange.com/

There are also 30 or so questions comparing Monero to other alternatives based on some of the criteria you specified:

If you have more questions, please ask them on Stack Exchange!

The list below is far from comprehensive and in no particular order. If you believe in Monero, there are ways you can help no matter how busy or technologically savvy you are.

1. Support Monero community funding proposals and donate Monero to privacy focused projects:
https://forum.getmonero.org/8/funding-required
https://subgraph.com/sgos/documentation/monero/

AEON appears to finally be getting a small fraction of the attention it deserves. Thank you Smooth and everyone else involved with the project and advancements in CryptoNote pruning and scaling.

Perhaps Poloniex will give the coin another look soon.

Re: When will the market cap of Aeon exceed Dashpay?
by

DASH collapsing, AEON up!

Is the timing a coincidence?

Or is it because the much hyped 12.1 update was a massive failure making DASH worse than before? Are former masternode owners jumping ship and moving to AEON? Are they finally realizing the value of true privacy, dynamic block-sizes and security over wasting money on failed ATM plans and paying "major" exchanges for listings?

Did people notice that DASH (Evan) could not earn an invite to Satoshi roundtable this year after failing to impress in 2016? Meanwhile Monero had two developers in attendance.

Usually a "flawless" transition does not entail ugly, damaging quick fixes which the devs themselves characterize as "controversial" and only necessary "until we have a better solution."

Usually a "flawless" transition does not entail losing connectivity with standard modern internetworking protocols, resulting in ~$1.5 million dollars worth of nodes being rudely tossed out of the system with no say in the matter (and taking their diversity/diffusivity with them).

Masternodes should be allowed to annonce ipv4 addresses only from now

^That's what normal people would call a flaw in the transition.

I can't believe your response to the question of "Why didn't Masternodes hold a vote on banning IPv6?" is to throw out some red herring about Americans and illegals.  Talk about hand waving!

WTF are you really that stupid?  Or are you just that committed to white knighting for Even The Instaminer, to the point where you will defend his unilateral actions and consistently false pretensions about governance theater no matter how blatantly centralized, retrograde, arbitrary, and authoritarian they become?

Do you have any idea what a huge security issue it is for every Masternode to be tied to a static IPv4 address?

Obviously you do not, otherwise you'd have chosen to describe 12.1 with a more appropriate term than "flawless."

"Flawless" sounds like some Evan Can Do No Wrong cheerleading from a Kool-Aid drinking bagholder, not an honest critical appraisal respectful of all the facts.

Of course given Dash's MO is "Marketing Over Technology" I'm not surprised you prefer to paint the situation in rosy terms rather than address the reasons why Bitcoin would never in a million years kick its IPv6 nodes out, much less have the chutzpah to describe such a Pyrrhic "quick win" as "flawless."

Is it asking too much for Evan to stop breaking feature which Bitcoin devs worked hard to implement?  If your name is Lukas_Jackson, the answer is "yes!"   Cheesy

The irony is stunning.  12.1 is being hyped as "Evolution" despite it breaking existing functionality and moving Dash back into the Bronze Age of networking.

IPv4 = tech from 1981

IPv6 = tech from 1999

What the diff?  Glad you asked!

While increasing the pool of addresses is one of the most often-talked about benefit of IPv6, there are other important technological changes in IPv6 that will improve the IP protocol:

- No more NAT (Network Address Translation)
- Auto-configuration
- No more private address collisions
- Better multicast routing
- Simpler header format
- Simplified, more efficient routing
- True quality of service (QoS), also called "flow labeling"
- Built-in authentication and privacy support
- Flexible options and extensions
- Easier administration (say good-bye to DHCP)

Don't forget guys, if you need to step out of the cult compound for any reason whatsoever, there's now a place where you can discuss Dash free from censorship, hooray! Tell us your Dash horror story if you're disgruntled at all or even say Dash is the greatest thing since sliced bread and your words will not be deleted.
Viva Liberación!

Go here. https://www.reddit.com/r/DashUncensored/

You are very welcome my crypto-brothers and sisters. Stay strong.

Thank you for making this. The DASH community (or at the the non scammers that want to learn) will benefit from the lack of censorship

Happy New Year indeed!  Cool

You are brave, I give you credit for that.

Shorting XMR before the Jaxx wallet is released and the RingCT fork just a few weeks away is something many would consider dangerous.

Speaking of shorting did you make some nice profits shorting DASH the last few weeks?

Not sure why it's supposed to be either XMR or DASH. They both have a different objective which shapes their development. One wants to achieve privacy and the other wants to push towards mainstream.

I personally put my chips on DASH as all the fundamentals are there and there is consistent growth. One is targeting the less than 1% crowd while the other wants the 99%.  Whether this is executed is a whole other question, although I am confident on the development.

But again, I'm sure there are people that have both. I just think DASH will do much better in the long run.

Privacy by default (not optional privacy that you have to "opt in" to use and is not supported automatically by all exchanges and merchants) is for the mainstream, they just don't realize it yet. Make no mistake, Monero is targeting mainstream adoption (today defined as all Bitcoin users and whose definition will expand over time). Privacy matters for everyone, not just the 1%

It is still not too late to convert 1 masternode into 1000 XMR. With Jaxx (first privacy option since DASH private send and ZEC "z" addresses are not supported by Jaxx while Monero is private by default) coming soon and RingCT activating early next month a 1/1 exchange might not be an option much longer

A bit cheap attempt to convince DASH users to buy XMR.

I think that most people who are able to invest 1000 coins for DASH are smart enough to see the pro/cons of XMR/DASH. I predict that next year DASH will have already at least 20% less masternodes.

You are right that everyone had the choice to make their own choice. DASH is really good at certain things such as the use of graphics in marketing materials and taking pictures of trees. The tree below is beautiful I mean that sincerely.

Happy holidays (which ever you might celebrate) and happy new year everyone!

As of today 1 DASH masternode (1000 DASH) can still be traded 1000 XMR.

Prediction:

After this month, there will never be another chance to exchange 1000 DASH for 1000 XMR. Quote me and laugh all you want. My reasoning is supported by recent GitHub activity of both DASH and XMR.

Can't read code? Join the next Monero developer meeting on IRC to hear the latest updates. Here are the logs from the last meeting.

Not everyone followed my friendly advice to convert DASH into XMR at a greater than 1/1 ratio and that is okay.  There are other things that some people value more than money that is secure, private and untraceable. When it comes to GIFs and pictures of holiday trees DASH is one of the best projects in crypto.

I mean that sincerely. That is a beautiful holiday tree!

Have a wonderful new year!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Nice to see that the Dash project collected a lot of smart and active people around (in 2016 I met with many "Dash-people" personally).
There was a lot of work In 2016, and platform for a reliable start into the future was created. Thanks to everyone who took part in it!
2017 promises to be even more interesting for Dash - join us!

Lovely tree Wink Thanks for all the community activities during 2016, cool videos, meetups and interesting projects. Happy 2017 all Dashers!

Monero is more private than DRK, requires no masternodes and actually works!
The DRK community had so many trolls spreading so much FUD on Monero and XC last year, but now things are coming back up again.

This.  Is.  Gentlemen.

DId masternode owners get duffed?

Wow. Didn't realize you signed a Service Level Agreement with 99.999% uptime.

Come on dude they're working on it.

The fact that Evan duffed up again is not the point. Masternode owners paid for the domain

Quote
The three sponsors will request funding for this from Dash’s decentralized budget system over a period of four months at the coin’s price at the time of the purchase, $2.42.  This will work out to 2,100 DASH per month over the four month period.

This was paid off many months ago. If the budget system is going to keep any credibility the dash.org domain needs to be transfered to the community that paid for it. Getting duffed by Evan is bad enough. Voting for a budget and paying over 20k for the privilege is even worse.

Anyone else finding that there are very few connections on SDC network.

My node (up 24/7) has 6 connections. Same server running bitcoind (average form 100 to 125 connections), blackcoin (average from 90 to 125 connections).

I am not behind a NAT, direct public IP on the server.

Block explorer also showing only 22 connections: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/sdc/#!network

I am not saying that anything is wrong, I just find it strange that such a big market coin has so few nodes running.

16 here bro

16 is still not that much Smiley

Possible that there are plenty nodes running over tor?

This is a PoS coin largely controlled by a very small number of people. It is centralized and I am not surprised to hear there are so few peers

Over the last month Monero has broken out over and held up at 0.003, while Darkcoin tested and failed to maintain 0.021.

Since you started this thread, XMR has more than tripled in value which DASH has fallen nearly 50%. This trend is likely to continue based on:

1. Larger and more active XMR development team
2. Faster growth of XMR usage and trading volume
3. Extremely strong and always improving XMR protocol level privacy (as a default) based on sound cryptography
