Hello everyone. I'm a CoinTerra refugee and new to the Spondoolies camp. Just got an SP31 up and running over the weekend.

I can't seem to find any definitive explanation for setting the "Fan Speed" parameter. The documentation says the fan speed affects the unit's hash rate.  But is the effect of fan speed on hash rate direct or consequential?  That is, is the fan speed setting directly used in setting the ASIC clock rates, or does a faster/slower fan simply mean cooler/warmer ASICs that subsequently mean faster/slower hashing?

The reason I ask is that my miner is in relatively cold (60F) server room and the chassis temps are holding at 21C front and 59C/59C rear.  So I was wondering if it's possible to devote less PSU power to air movement, and more power to the ASICs by reducing the fan speed. Or is such an endeavor a fool's errand?

Any sound (pardon the pun) advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

This might be a little off topic I appolgize.  Just wanted to warn you that you might want to switch names before you go to far. Terra Hash was a scam bitcoin maker that ran off with pre-orders.   So if anyone googles your name it has TONS of bad PR.

@notlist3d: Thanks for the fair warning. I'll be sure to have my flame suite ready. But I can assure you I AM NOT THAT GUY!!! I'm just some dude down in Mississippi trying to mine a few coins. My TerraMiner IV units suffered premature deaths, so I made scrap metal out of them and moved to Spondoolies.

Hi.  I run 10 of the SP31s and here are some of my settings.

Most quiet, my most efficient setting:  Fan 40 then .64 .64. .67 and PSUs to 750w each.  This should equal about 3500 ghs. At this setting, my AC units are louder than the miners.

For about 4,000 ghs:  Fan 60, .65 .65 .70 and PSUs to 925w each.

I have other settings above this, but these are the two lower settings that I most often use, especially if the miners will be unattended.  Please keep in mind that these settings may not work for others and are based on my cooling/ventilation setup, etc.

Hope this helps a little.  I have seen little fluctuation in hashing rate with fan speeds, more so with PSU voltage limits.

I'm running 5 units, all currently with identical settings. It's a mixed bag on performance.  The temps are all very close, but the hash rate varies amongst the units from ~4000 to ~4450.  I was hoping for a bit more consistency but this may normal.  I'v also got one unit where ASIC#1 is totally DOA from Spondoolies-Tech.  Not really sure what to do about that.

BTCGuild doesn't list your solved block numbers, but the Slush "My Account" page does at the bottom.

https://www.btcguild.com/index.php?page=rankings

Unless placed, you are always listed at the bottom of the rankings.

Yes, that's how I know I hit 1 block with them. I show at the bottom with 1 block, but I have way of knowing the specific block number.

I received my "January batch" miners in late February, and have been mining steady for about 40 days.  I've already solved 3 blocks.

You solved 3 blocks in 40 days with a miner that is estimated to solve 1 every 177 days?

With multiple miners (plural). But even with 5 miners, 3 blocks in 40 days is still much better luck than expected. BTCGuild doesn't list your solved block numbers, but the Slush "My Account" page does at the bottom.  My page is showing #288025 and #293474.  It makes me wish I had been solo mining!! But then again, I might not hit another one for the next 6 months.

Who knows who "Unknown" really is.  It's probably KNC mining with their customers' money.  That is an illegal activity know as "conversion."  But we're all messed if the U.S. government decides to use that massive NSA datacenter in Utah to mine Bitcoin.  I might could envision a collective rock-throwing raid on KNC in Sweden, but disrupting that monster in Utah would be more problematic.

I got my 2Th from them.. need to RMA the unit.. it is not hashing correctly..   about 1.4 TH.. not what I want.

Is this the speed reported on the pool site after several hours of mining?  (1) Don't trust the numbers the TM-IV is giving you on its status page. (2) It takes several hours for the hash rate on any given pool to stabilize.  I've noticed the rate typically climbs slowly for several hours.  (3) Make sure you have the latest firmware update.  I've got 5 TM-IV units, and each of them run (with slight variation) at about 1.605 TH/s on Slush's pool after latest firmware update.

I received my "January batch" miners in late February, and have been mining steady for about 40 days.  I've already solved 3 blocks.  You should do proportionally as well.  I can't speak too badly about Cointerra.  It wasn't 2.0 TH/s as advertised, but they are performing much better than the KNC Neptunes at this point.  So we take what we can get.

I've got 5 ASICs and I'm presently splitting them between Slush(1) and BTCGuild(4).  I know that all mining should, statistically, produce the same result over the "long term" regardless of pool or even solo.  But I'm beginning to think that "long term" is a relative concept, and one that is becoming shorter and shorter.  The new "long term" may be a week in ASIC years.  In the last 7 days, the 1 miner at Slush has earned 26% more than ¼ of the 4 miners at BTCGuild.  Undecided

First post on Bitcoin Forum and I hope it's not a stupid one, but I've go a question about CGMiner and DNS.  Obviously CGMiner makes use of DNS to establish connections to pools when it starts up.  Once the connection is made and the mining process starts, does CGMiner need access to a DNS server on an ongoing basis??  The reason I ask is that we are making some changes in our server room that will require our DNS server to be brought down for an hour or so, and I was curious if this would disrupt my miners.
