Manna relaunch is going to take GRT to the moon. I decided to sell 1/3 of my investment (against my better judgement) just to create a little liquidity in my portfolio....I know after Manna I am likely going to kick myself in the ass for doing so. The team over at Grantcoin / MannaCurrency is amazing, with a true vision for future success. I have been fortunate enough to personally speak to Brandon Venetta, a team member of Grantcoin, and can honestly say that there is a lot of passion for the future of this coin to be successful. I will hold my remaining 2/3 for quite some time just as most of the users of Grantcoin are doing.

Keep up the great work guys....you are creating positive change in the world...Very glad that I supported this coin, and look forward to continuing to support this team.

Thank you! We're working hard to make this project a success! We've been a couple weeks delayed in the rollout of the new website (now in debugging phase), but we're getting ready to release some things this week such as wallets and whitepaper.

Hi everyone, soon we'll be coming up with a list of things we need done by volunteers for bounties or payments in Grantcoin.

The highest priorities in the near future are probably the following:

  • Help with development and testing for next update to Grantcoin code and wallets, and a few other tech projects.
  • Spanish language translation of our website, etc.

Will update this thread when a more specific list is ready.

If you don't have ne1 for Spanish translation of Grantcoin website yet, I'm here.

Hi, thank you for your interest in helping out. Can you e-mail me at jon@grantcoin.org and we can talk further?

Dev, how do you want to get attention if you respond every 3 months? Do you intend what with this project? Be honest and you will get what you deserve!

Hi, we are a dedicated team of volunteers and working diligently to improve the quality of the technology and underlying components of the project. That being said, we have admittedly not given due attention to the various public forums. In order to address this, we will soon be launching a slack channel as well as making a much more active effort to regularly provide updates and respond to inquiries in this thread. I apologize for the past delays and can assure you we will be much more accessible moving forward.

Sorry for bumping. Generally I like the idea, even though I'm not sure it will work, but what I'm wondering most about atm is how you keep people from creating several wallets and gaming the system?

This is a great and important question. We are utilizing an automated system developed by Ekata.social that incorporates a non web based cell-phone, biometrics, e-mail, and location to determine each user as unique. Those who do not pass this are requested to further verify their identity. We have spent considerable effort towards ensuring abuse does not occur and it will continue to be a high priority. As the project grows and our process improves we will do audits with our current signups to ensure we are not experiencing abuse and to alleviate any discovered loopholes.

Urgent Update and News
By The Grantcoin Foundation
March 13, 2017

The Grantcoin Foundation has several news items to report:

1. Grantcoin will no longer be available for trading on Bittrex. Grantcoin will continue to trade on SouthXchange (see their GRT/BTC and GRT/USD markets).

Bittrex was not a good fit for Grantcoin, because their business model emphasizes high-volume cryptocurrencies that are frequently day-traded. Most investors and holders of Grantcoin, on the other hand, are holding the currency long-term and do not engage in high-frequency trading.

The delisting from Bittrex changes nothing about the Grantcoin project. The Grantcoin team continues to actively develop our organization, technology, and Grantcoin Basic Income distribution program. Grantcoin can still be publicly traded on SouthXchange, and we will be pursuing additional third-party exchanges and solutions to make it easier for ordinary people to acquire and trade Grantcoin for other currencies — especially major currencies such as U.S. Dollars and Euros.

2. Over $1,700 has been raised during the past two months, from 25 new donors in several countries. This is a significant increase from the rate of donations last year — and if this continues, our organization will be at least minimally financially sustainable. We want to thank everyone who has recently donated. You’re helping to keep the Grantcoin project going and giving hope to thousands of people in impoverished parts of the world.

3. Over 2,000 people have now signed up for Grantcoin Basic Income. Most of them are in developing countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America — places where a small basic income subsidy, saved over a period of years, could really make a difference in people’s lives.

4. We’re developing a Grantcoin savings account program for children in developing countries. Our team is drafting a proposal to present to two charities, one in Africa and one in Latin America, which have already expressed interest. We hope to expand the program to more charities in the future.

5. Ekata Social has started building an automated wallet creation system for recipients of Grantcoin Basic Income. We expect this to be ready by the next Grantcoin distribution at the end of April. This new technology will significantly reduce the workload of the Grantcoin team and enable the continued rapid growth of our Basic Income program.

We’re excited about all the great things that are happening for Grantcoin, and working hard to keep this world-changing project moving forward. Thank you for your support!

Grantcoin Launches Automated Signup Process on Ekata Social Platform

By The Grantcoin Foundation
December 9, 2016

The Grantcoin Foundation is pleased to announce that we have developed an automated system for signup and verification of applicants for Grantcoin Basic Income. The technology was built by Ekata Social LLC and is the first step toward our mutual goal of full integration of Grantcoin into Ekata, a new social media platform.

The new signup process for Grantcoin will not require human labor to process the majority of applications. Applicants will verify their email address and mobile phone number, and in most cases will be automatically approved and instantaneously receive a referral code they can share with others. ...

How long left of pow phase, I see it will go into pos this year going by the website statement ?

Not sure at this point when or if Grantcoin will implement Proof of Stake. It depends mostly on the economic model of the coin and how a switch to PoS would affect its charitable purpose, i.e. whether it would tend to increase or decrease the amount of GRT being distributed as rewards for maintaining the network, vs. how much is being distributed as Basic Income grants. The Grantcoin Foundation Board of Directors has had some discussions about this in the past couple of months, but a final decision has not yet been made.

For the foreseeable future, Grantcoin will remain PoW only.

no Greek Sad or other languages?

Yes, we want many other languages, including Greek. But since we're already getting hundreds of people signing up for Grantcoin in Spanish-speaking countries, we have to get Spanish done first. It's just a question of *when* different things get done, not if.

If you want us to prioritize Greek translation, please start promoting Grantcoin in Greece so that spreads there and then we'll need a Greek translation sooner. Wink

[ANN][MANNA] Manna: Universal Basic Income + Blockchain
by
The Grantcoin Foundation
on 15/09/2016, 21:44:53 UTC

Manna (originally called Grantcoin) is the first cryptocurrency to be distributed as Universal Basic Income to thousands of unique individuals around the world.

Manna is the first cryptocurrency to be managed and distributed by a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Charitable donations are used to buy back the currency on the market, to help it gain and hold value.

"We insist that a new currency be equitable: that it shall be issued to all people as a human right, as a universal basic income to be enjoyed by all — to compensate, at least partially, for the accidents of birth and circumstances of fortune that have blessed or condemned different people and regions of the world to wealth or poverty." Announcing GrantMarket, an Online Hub for Cryptocurrency Giving

Posted on February 10, 2016 by The Grantcoin Foundation
http://www.grantcoin.org/2016/02/10/grantmarket-online-hub-for-cryptocurrency-giving/

The Grantcoin Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of GrantMarket, a website where people can give micro-donations of Grantcoin (GRT) to worthy recipients online.

Once or twice a week, our team will publish articles on GrantMarket about a charity or nonprofit organization, artist or musician, or other #grantworthy person or organization. Readers who are inspired to support them can click a button to send GRT through Twitter, or copy a specific wallet address and send them GRT using a Grantcoin wallet on your computer or smartphone.

Each article on GrantMarket will also have a Bitcoin donation button powered by Coinbase, and a PayPal button for people who wish to donate using U.S. dollars. Users who choose these options will be making a tax-deductible donation to the Grantcoin Foundation, and our organization will send the equivalent amount of GRT to your intended recipient.

Later this year, GrantMarket will also begin featuring socially and environmentally conscious businesses, and people will be able to spend Grantcoin to buy gift cards or coupons at those businesses — similar to a customer loyalty points program.

“We’re excited to launch GrantMarket because we believe it’s essential for alternative currencies to have a real-world purpose,” said Grantcoin founder Eric Stetson. “Our goal is to develop Grantcoin and GrantMarket into an economic network for social good.”

People who wish to acquire Grantcoin to use on GrantMarket may donate to the Grantcoin Foundation and receive a Grantcoin starter kit with software, coins, and instructions. We match all donations with an equivalent donation of GRT to the charity of your choice. Grantcoin can also be purchased on exchanges.

We invite you to visit grantmarket.org and check out the new site!

Grantcoin Foundation Approved as 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Charity; Grantcoin Starter Kit and Matching Grant Programs Launched

Posted on December 15, 2015 by The Grantcoin Foundation
http://www.grantcoin.org/2015/12/15/grantcoin-foundation-approved-as-501c3-tax-exempt-charity-programs-launched/

In a historic development, Grantcoin has become the first cryptocurrency to be managed and distributed by an IRS-approved tax-exempt public charity. The Grantcoin Foundation, a nonprofit organization incorporated in Delaware, has been approved by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service for 501(c)(3) status, which allows Grantcoin supporters in the United States to receive a full tax deduction for their charitable contributions to Grantcoin’s governing body. 501(c)(3) organizations are legally required to have a charitable mission and adhere to high standards of ethics and transparency.

“The whole Grantcoin team is incredibly proud to have achieved this milestone,” said Eric Stetson, founder and Executive Director of the Grantcoin Foundation. “As the first philanthropy-backed digital currency with an affirmative IRS determination of tax-exempt status, Grantcoin is breaking new ground. We are the charitable alternative to Bitcoin.”

In conjunction with this announcement, the Grantcoin Foundation is launching two new programs:

  • GrantDrives: Grantcoin-branded bamboo flash drives containing a Grantcoin starter kit for donors. The starter kit comes with wallet software pre-loaded with Grantcoin and detailed instructions for how to use it.
  • Cascading Philanthropy program: Matching grants for donors, to the charity of your choice. The Grantcoin Foundation will give the equivalent monetary value of your tax-deductible donation in the form of Grantcoin, plus free promotion for your favorite charity or nonprofit to our 4,000+ Twitter followers. In January we plan to launch a website called GrantMarket, where people can easily send Grantcoin microdonations to featured charities, artists, and other worthy recipients — and your charity will be profiled there too!

Over 80% of the total supply of Grantcoin is reserved for charitable grants to help create a more humane and sustainable world. Grantcoin will be distributed in each nation and community proportionally to its population, to help shift the economy towards a more fair distribution of wealth as the currency gains users and value.

“We’re building an alternative currency system inspired by people’s belief in social justice and the public good, and backed by their philanthropic support,” said the founder of Grantcoin. “Imagine a world where humanity’s most worthy values and actions are built in to the way money works — that’s the world Grantcoin is creating. All we need is people to join this movement for an equitable and sustainable global economy,” said Stetson. “Together we can make it happen.”

Grantcoin was launched to the public on May 1, 2015 and is led by a team of socially conscious entrepreneurs and activists in the United States. The Grantcoin Foundation plans to establish affiliates in communities around the world, which will assist in the distribution and widespread adoption of Grantcoin. Thank you Suprnova for all your cooperation to get things working again on your pool.

Attention Grantcoin miners: Suprnova is the ONLY pool we know of that has updated to the new wallet and is mining on the correct fork.

Some people are still mining on MaxMiners, but as we have mentioned before, that pool has not updated -- they are on the wrong fork of the blockchain! All blocks being found by MaxMiners are invalid. If you are mining on MaxMiners, the blocks you find are worthless and you are just wasting your electricity. Please switch to Suprnova or solo mine if you prefer.

If MaxMiners ever updates their Grantcoin pool, we will let you know.

Here is the explanation of why we're currently stuck at block 250,001. There was an incompatibility between the updated legacy code and the new wallets, and the only mining pool that updated to v0.7.0 (Suprnova) was using the legacy code. As soon as we discovered the incompatibility, our team asked Suprnova to turn off their pool, since the blocks being mined after 250,001 will not be part of the blockchain after we get things started up again.

Last night, we released a patch to fix the problem in the legacy code, and informed Suprnova. They haven't yet restarted the pool though.

Anyone who wants to try to solo mine, can do so by compiling grantcoind from the latest version of the legacy code here: https://github.com/grantcoin/grantcoin-legacy. If you try this, please do a fresh blockchain download before you start to mine.

We also hope that Suprnova will start up again soon with the fix, and we'll inform you in this thread when that happens, so that people can mine again in the pool.

Our team is also testing a bug fix for the updated official code which had caused issues for Suprnova (which is why they were using the legacy version), and if all goes well, we'll release that tonight or tomorrow.

The other two pools (MaxMiners and AltMiners) have never responded to any messages from the Grantcoin Foundation about this fork, over the past couple of weeks, and as far as we're concerned these Grantcoin pools should be considered defunct and should not be used by anyone mining Grantcoin (unless we hear back from them, and if we do, we'll let the community know).

Attention Grantcoin Users: Mandatory Wallet Update by Today, December 3

Posted on December 3, 2015 by The Grantcoin Foundation
http://www.grantcoin.org/2015/12/03/attention-grantcoin-users-mandatory-wallet-update/

The Grantcoin software development team has tested and released a new version of wallets, v0.7.0, for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android. All Grantcoin users are urged to download the new wallet software as soon as possible.

Because of planned changes to the Grantcoin block reward system — specifically, turning off the Proof-of-Stake minting which was scheduled to begin — the blockchain will fork at block 250,000. This is expected to happen today, December 3. After today, people who haven’t updated their wallet may be connected to the wrong blockchain if they use the old wallet. If you try to send a transaction with the old wallet, you may lose your coins.

Updating to Grantcoin v0.7.0 is easy. Just download the appropriate wallet for the operating system you are using and run it. If you already had Grantcoin on the same computer or device, the new wallet might take some time to re-index the blockchain the first time you use it.

Users of the Grantcoin Twitter wallet do not need to do anything to continue using it the same as before — the Grantcoin Foundation has updated that wallet on our server. People who have Grantcoin in “cold storage” or a paper wallet do not need to do anything with their wallet.dat file or private key. If you ever decide to import your coins into an active, “hot” wallet on a computer or device, just make sure that you’re running the new version of the wallet software.

Wallet download links are below:

Grantcoin v0.7.0 includes several new features which are an improvement over the old wallet, such as:

  • Coin control (for advanced users)
  • Support for IPv6
  • Multisig capability
  • Faster syncing and blockchain download speed

More information about Grantcoin wallets is also available on this page.

Grantcoin code is available on GitHub, for advanced users who wish to compile and run a grantcoind headless client. You have two options, both of which are v0.7.0 and fully compatible with each other:

Grantcoin miners are asked to use the Suprnova mining pool or solo-mine Grantcoin starting today. Suprnova has confirmed that they updated to the new version of Grantcoin. Other mining pools have not yet confirmed this, so the Grantcoin Foundation cannot recommend using them until they do.

If you have any questions or issues with the new wallets or code, please contact the Grantcoin Foundation and our developers will reply. Bug reports and suggestions for improvement are always appreciated!
