Could be several reasons, of which I believe two are most likely:
1) Seeking dopamine hit with social media interactions
2) Avoiding potential liability in helping and instead choosing to document the incident

Re: Is the newly minted USDT, a driving force to surge of BTC ?
by

The month of march has been a bearish period for Bitcoin since it's history
Past behavior is rarely an indicator of future behavior especially with the ever-changing landscape of the crypto market.

Also, Tether recently released about a billion dollar USDT and afterwards we saw the price of BTC surge above its previous price of 62k to 63 and currently 65k plus. This has made lots of crypto enthusiasts wonder if the billion dollar release by Tether is the driving force behind the resurgence of Bitcoin, what do you think about this?
It could be that the USDT is causing an "inflationary" pressure on BTC if the USDT is going straight into BTC, but no one really knows.

Many of the previous folks have given you solid answers. If you want to gamble with some of the money, consider taking 1-2k and spreading it over a couple of trending meme coins. Otherwise, I recommend you stay with BTC/ETH.

2023-12-04 CoinDesk - BTC Market-Neutral Bets Offer 10% Return as BTC Tops $41K

Bitcoin Market-Neutral Bets Offer 10% Return as BTC Tops $41K, Analysts Say

- The market-neutral bitcoin "basis" trade offers an annualized double-digit return as futures premium rise above 10%.

- The strategy could become more attractive with the launch of spot ETFs next year, one analyst said.

Bitcoin (BTC), the leading cryptocurrency by market value, has surged past $41,000 for the first time since April 2022.

While the rally is undoubtedly good news for directional traders, market-neutral traders who intend to make steady returns irrespective of price trends need not feel left behind, as return on such strategies is steadily climbing.

The bitcoin cash and carry arbitrage or the so-called basis trade, a market-neutral strategy seeking to profit from mispricings in the spot and futures market, now offers at least 10% annualized return, data from crypto derivatives exchange Deribit show. The basis is the difference between prices for futures and the spot price of the underlying asset.

The strategy involves taking a long position in the spot market and simultaneously selling futures when futures are trading at a premium to the spot price. Setting opposing positions helps traders collect a fixed return as the premium evaporates over time and converges with the spot price on the futures contract’s expiry date, irrespective of the spot market trend.

2023-12-04 CNBC/Money Report - Crypto execs say the bull run is underway
by

Crypto execs say the bull run is underway and could lead to $100,000 bitcoin in 2024

- Executives in the cryptocurrency industry called the start of a new bull run with a growing number of voices calling for fresh all-time highs for bitcoin in 2024 above $100,000.

- Excitement around a bitcoin ETF being approved in the U.S. next year as well as the bitcoin halving is fueling a rally in cryptocurrencies.

- Many commentators also see the conclusion of the FTX case and the Binance settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice as the resolution of two outstanding issues that were plaguing the market.

Executives in the cryptocurrency industry called the start of a new bull run with a growing number of voices calling for fresh all-time highs for bitcoin in 2024 above $100,000.

Bitcoin has rallied more than 120% this year, with many optimistic about the surge continuing into 2024.

"It feels that [2023]was a year to get ready for the bull run that is yet to come. But the sentiment is very hopeful for [2024] and 25," Pascal Gauthier, CEO of Ledger, told CNBC last week in an interview.

The digital currency's last record high of nearly $69,00 was hit in November 2021.

2023-12-04 Cointelegraph - Bitcoin prices should ‘logically’ correct in Jan

Bitcoin prices should ‘logically’ correct in Jan, but crypto’s a ‘wild card’

The price of Bitcoin (BTC) should “logically” undergo a correction once spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are approved, though commentators also concede that crypto is a “wild card."

Bitcoin has been gaining momentum over the last 11 months, with a jump in March amid banking uncertainty, another spike in June when BlackRock filed for a spot Bitcoin ETF, and again in October, similarly due to optimism over spot Bitcoin ETF approvals.

On Dec. 3, Bitcoin cleared the $40,000 mark, its highest level in 19 months.

James Edwards, a cryptocurrency analyst at Finder, said that “logically,” the approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF should trigger a sell-off event. “I'd like to say that logically this makes it a sell-the-news type event.”

“Buy the rumor, sell the news” is a phrase that describes a situation where a stock or asset rises ahead of anticipated positive news or events but falls once the news is confirmed or the event occurs.

https://twitter.com/crypto_caesar1/status/1731005263832867017

“The idea that this is going to lead to widespread institutional buying on day 1 is a bit too optimistic,” explained Edwards, adding it is unlikely fund managers will “ape in the moment it goes live.”

“It could be months – if not years – before we see truly groundbreaking inflows,” he added.

2023-12-04 Cointelegraph - South Africa may license 36 crypto companies in Dec

South African regulator may license 36 crypto companies in December

South Africa’s principal financial regulator, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), reviewed 128 applications from crypto service asset providers (CASPs) but intends to discuss only 36 during its next meeting in December.

The numbers were published on Nov. 30 by the South African news outlet My Broadband. According to the publication, the FSCA plans to review 36 licensees’ presentations at the Dec.12 Licensing Executive Committee meeting. A further 22 applications will be presented on Feb.13. The last 14 applications will have to wait until March 12.

The fate of all the remaining applications wasn’t specified by the Authority, which explained its evaluation method as the combined assessment of Know Your Customer onboarding, data protection, cyber risk management, conflict of interest management, complaints handling, and credit counterparty risk management.

The FSCA also published its “Crypto Assets Markets Study” for 2023 on the same day, Nov. 30. The study found that 60% of all traded crypto in South Africa are so-called “unbacked crypto assets,” which means any cryptocurrency besides stablecoins (26% of the market share) and nonfungible tokens (NFTs, 4% of the market share), and some types of centrally issued coins.

According to the survey, the average crypto asset provider in South Africa (46%) has an annual revenue of between 1 and 50 million South African rand ($53,000 to $2.7 million). And only 8% of all the CASPs take in more than 100 million rand ($5.4 million).

Besides reflecting Dragonfly’s confidence in upcoming bull runs, the strategic investment demonstrates Coinbase’s position in the cryptocurrency world despite its regulatory challenges.

Dragonfly bought several digital coins from Coinbase, including Ethereum, Lido, and Ribbon. The venture firm acquired 21.08 million RNB coins, 1.87 million LDO, 150.184 million Ether, and SFI tokens worth $97.68K.

With this strategic investment, Dragonfly signals its dedication to expanding its portfolio. The unlocked RBN, LDO, and Ether are essential for a diverse balance sheet. Moreover, it establishes Coinbase as the platform of choice for substantial token transfers.

Bitcoin breaks $40,000 as momentum builds

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Bitcoin has broken above $40,000 for the first time this year as it rides a wave of momentum on broad enthusiasm about U.S. interest rate cuts and as traders anticipate the imminent approval of U.S.-stockmarket traded bitcoin funds.

The world's biggest cryptocurrency hit $41,522 on Monday, its highest since April 2022 and has seemed to cast off the funk that had settled over crypto markets since the collapse of FTX and other crypto-business failures in 2022.

A 50% rally since mid-October has "seemed to mark a decisive shift away from the bearishness of 2022 and early 2023," said Justin d'Anethan - head of business development for Asia-Pacific at Keyrock, a digital assets market making firm.
He said evidence of institutional buying through November showed a new leg of interest and that although reversals ahead are not inconceivable, lows hit around $16,000 a year ago "probably marked the bottom".

Bitcoin-investor Microstrategy last week disclosed it bought an additional $593 million in bitcoin during November.

Meanwhile, riskier investments and other interest-rate sensitive assets, such as gold, have also rallied hard over the last few weeks as markets wager that the U.S. Federal Reserve has finished hiking rates and will start cutting early in 2024.

2023-12-04 Reuters - Brazilian lender Itau launches crypto trading

Brazilian lender Itau launches crypto trading

SAO PAULO, Dec 4 (Reuters) - Brazilian bank Itau Unibanco (ITUB4.SA) on Monday launched a cryptocurrency trading service for clients of its investment platform, making the nation's largest lender the latest local player to enter the market for the digital asset's exchange.

Initially, Itau's new service will allow trading of bitcoin, the most popular cryptocurrency, as well as ether, but the lender aims to later add others, said digital asset head Guto Antunes in an interview.

"It starts with bitcoin, but our overarching strategic plan is to expand to other crypto assets in the future," he said, adding any expansion would depend on how crypto regulation in the country evolved.

The move sets Itau up to compete in Brazil with other locals such as crypto exchange MB and investment bank BTG Pactual's (BPAC3.SA) digital assets unit Mynt, as well as global giants like Binance.

Itau argues it will stand out from rivals as it also acts as a custodian, safeguarding users' assets, Antunes said.

Malicious bots make up nearly three-quarters of Internet traffic
by
TheIrishman
on 03/12/2023, 10:02:51 UTC
<< According to fraud control platform Arkose Labs, a staggering 73 percent of Internet traffic to websites and apps measured between January 2023 and September 2023 was related to bots performing malicious activities like SMS toll fraud, scraping, and card testing. Talk about a waste of resources.

The top five bad bot categories in the third quarter included account takeover, scraping, fake account creation, account management, and in-product abuse (inventory hoarding, loyalty points abuse, and the like). These categories were mostly unchanged from Q2, with one exception: in-product abuse replaced card testing.

SMS toll fraud saw the largest quarter-over-quarter increase, up 2,141 percent in Q3 compared to Q2. Attacks on customer support call centers increased 160 percent, the firm observed. From Q1 to Q2, scraping saw the biggest increase at 432 percent.

Arkose Labs said intelligent bot attacks increased 291 percent from Q1 to Q2, and suggested that the use of sophisticated techniques like machine learning and AI to mimic human behavior could be to blame for the spike. When AI and tech fails, some criminals turn to human fraud farms to carry out attacks. >>

Google reveals the next step in its war on ad blockers: slower extension updates
by
TheIrishman
on 03/12/2023, 09:55:09 UTC
<< In what's become a cat-and-mouse game between YouTube and ad blocker developers, Google appears to be making its boldest attack yet. A new policy featured in the Manifest V3 extension platform could destroy ad blockers on YouTube for good, at least on Chrome.

To dissuade users from using ad blockers on YouTube, Google began by pausing videos with a nag to turn off ad blocking. Then, it added an intentional delay when loading videos if a blocker was detected. It was somewhat effective, as developers reported a sharp increase in uninstalls. Now, Google is taking its war directly to those designing Chrome extensions.

Google's Manifest V2 extension platform allows developers to update their extensions very quickly. However, when Manifest V3 becomes mandatory in June 2024, there will be new restrictions that could drastically slow down the rate at which developers can update extensions.

Future extension updates must pass a complete review process before getting approved and sent to users. Ad blockers rely on swift updates to counter updates to YouTube's ad delivery system. The new review process should slow the rollout of updates, giving YouTube time to adjust its algorithms to make ad-blocking attempts less effective. >>
