Re: Should a Bitcoin based coin for gaming/gamification be developed?

So what happens when player 1 decides to play game abc and becomes fabulously wealthy. Then game xyz comes out and player 1 is automatically the best player in the game before anyone has a chance to do anything simply because player 1 has a massive bankroll coming in from abc. This is the real issue with creating a universal currency. It causes you to ruin the integrity of a stand alone game. For example, is it fair if I go run 500 bots on Diablo 2 then trade all those items off for some currency and then trade that currency for all of the best gear in World of Warcraft? (This is currently happening btw and it hurts both games)

Speaking as a professional game developer, I'd be against this idea. Adding a unified currency into any game creates a very restrictive environment and adding it to a game which has a system where those purchases create advantages for the player makes this worse. In the gaming community this is known as "Pay To Win" or P2W and is currently frowned upon. Diablo 3 gets a lot of flak for this.

I don't understand the point of the game. You can't win. You either lose money or get labeled a scammer. There is no strategy whatsoever. This does not meet the requirements of being defined as a "game".

Hi everyone,

I am a game programmer from Chicago with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science. I currently work for a learning game platform company. I've been offering services on specific threads, but I believe it will be easier to have my own dedicated thread from here on out. I currently offer the following services:

-General writing (.2BTC - 2BTC per page depending on subject) (I can write about a vast array of topics, so feel free to pm me with anything you need.)
caveat: A page is 260 words for any format that will not be split into pages. Ex: A website.

-Teaching C++, C#, VB.NET, Unity3D

-General text editing (typos, misspellings, grammatical errors, and poor phrasing) (0.0003BTC/ word)

-Programming/Game Design Consulting (1.5BTC/hour)

Message me if you'd like more information or you have a special project.

I generally only work with English. I'm proficient in French, but not to a level that I would be comfortable proofreading it professionally.

Would you be interested in someone proofreading your website and bringing your attention to any misspellings, typos, and grammatical errors for a small fee? I can also rewrite poorly phrased passages and do general security checks.

Send me a pm if you're interested. We can discuss payment. (My rates are very reasonable)

You're aware the cost will be at a minimum 5 digits correct? I'm a c++, c#, vb.NET, SQL developer. I'm currently a video game programmer and designer for a company out of chicago and have been for the last 3 years. Pm me with more details and I can give you a better price estimate.

Re: Why so much difference in prices between exchanges?

The price depends on the trades executed on the exchanges. So yes you could do arbitrage - if you can move your money/btc between exchanges fast enough Smiley

Only if you can get a decent fill.  The lag times at Mtgox make that a hell of a gamble right now.

This. The risk vs return on arbitrage right now isn't very good. That's specifically because of order execution time. If everything were as liquid as forex those of us who have traded prior would be making a couple million a day pushing coins across multiple exchanges but its just too slow right now.

I've been following them for a while. It seems to me that it's not a scam but they were very overzealous with their shipping estimates. On their site it states they are in the last phase of development. If that's the case they should need months of testing before shipping. Instead it says they'll start shipping this month...

Re: Is this a massive "correction" or what?
by

I think it's combo of things. Here is my timeline of what happened.

1) A big player decides $265 is a good time to cash out. They decide to drop a couple thousands btc on the market all at once.

2) The epic price rise slows, then stops and stabilizes as demand can't eat through the thousands of coins as quickly as it normally can.

3) The "DDoS bandits" see that now is the right time for another DDoS snatch and grab.

4) As the DDoS brings many of the major exchanges to a near halt people begin to panic and the inevitable correction begins to take place.

5) As the correction continues the DDoS bandits realize they can create an overcorrection if they continue the attack.

And here we are.

Looks like a pretty textbook DDoS to me. I'll be ready to buy when they stop attacking the exchanges and it bottoms.

I remember being given bitcoins for completing questionnaires and for some purchases online when it all first started.

I am of course not using the same computer or IP address and cant remember having an online wallet - how do I go about seeing if I can find those bitcoins from so long ago?

Do you happen to use the d2jsp forum. I know a guy from there who sometimes uses the tag swilson when he plays poker.

Hey everyone,

My name is Kaleb and I've been trolling this forum for a few months now so I decided to finally make an account. I've been following bitcoins for the past year and a half but haven't really gotten serious about it until very recently. My roommate and I are game programmers for two different companies so we're looking into creating a bitcoin casino that is far more aesthetically pleasing and gamified than anything we've seen created so far.

So if you want to talk programming, video games, bitcoins, guitar, the stock market, or almost anything else I'm always up for a good discussion.

I'm also more than willing to help anyone if they have any questions pertaining to the aforementioned skill sets, so never be scared to ask.
