Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order

Unless price of BTC doubles in short order after halving ( http://www.bitcoinblockhalf.com/ ) of Block rewards early adopters are screwing themselves paying these initial asking prices for S9.

Curious to see what the S9 will be selling for in August.

Wasn't gonna buy at $310 and sure as hell not gonna buy at $370.  Bitman, you're pricing yourself out of the market.

For a moment I blinked and thought they incorporated the shipping fee. Not.

I miss the days when Bitmain mining gear would pay for itself in 6 or less weeks of mining. I just can't get over having to assume the risk for payback over 3 months.

if these were 2TH I would be all over these as I would just pump cold water from the fish pond outside and pump the hot water back out. No fans or radiators.

1 BTC each plus shipping plus local taxes are just a losing proposition.

good luck all the same to all who are biting. hope BTC hits over 1000 again this November to break you all into ROI.

The price of the S4 is a great incentive to keep my 10 x S1s (paid for long ago) and work this weekend to lower all the voltages and frequencies. Even if if I will just earn .5 BTC per month after electricity it's still better than the S4 deal. Second point is that it's getting cold again in the north east of america so the S1 heat is appreciated once again.

Very nice review, thanks for share your experience Smiley

Agreed. Very nice effort writing this for us. I appreciate another honest vendor/manufacturer entering the market. It may not be competitive nonetheless it adds to the diversity.

Well i got my b2 order in, now i have to wait 3 hours until i get home to start playing with them Shocked
to people in canada wondering how much VAT ( custom + Tax ) fees.
with a declared value of 947USD
in Quebec for 2 miners i just paid 159$ CAD
heads up, get your credit card ready.

Have Fun Everyone and Happy Mining.

I have been waiting weeks for this info. Thanks!!!

So it costs $100 more that what two S1's use to cost for UPS customs/taxes and clearance at the door ($59) with CC in hand for UPS guy.

not as bad as I feared.

Pretty discouraging to see the updated ship date.  This means we will be 4-5 days into the next difficulty before getting them plugged in.

the next difficulty change will be pretty easy on ROI since I can remember when. Wish they were all like that.

the more things change the more they stay the same back in octocber I needed to spend 21K USD ~1.2 TH to get 1.1 btc per day.
Even with the Antminers awesome low price I would now need 70 Antminers ~35TH to get 1BTC/day. about 31K USD plus PSU's

So much for the at home miner to make 1 BTC a day  Sad  I give up.

Once my hive of S1s stop making more $$$ than power costs after reducing their wattage. I'm out.

I see post after post where mathematicians calculate profit or loss based on speed and difficulty, but the biggest factor that will get in the way is LUCK, the POOL LUCK has been destroyed by manufacturers and the private farms. Bitmain is a contributor to this as well. The difficulty is rising in leaps and bounds based on network speed but most of the public pools combined hash rate is getting left in the dust! Oh except when Bitmain or one of the other Manufacturers decides to raid a pool by jumping in with a Ph/s or two for a couple of hours while "testing". Crunch the numbers all you want, till you start adding in the Variance and LUCK of your favorite pool, those calculators are meaningless.

Yes, I too have been raped hard by luck over the last three months, but this is independent of hashrate distribution.  Slush has had a 1 month luck of 107% while BTCGuild has been at 91.9% even though BTCGuild is 2x-3x larger than Slush by HR.

Its all Luck some good some bad but it all averages out, although SLUSH and ELIGIUS seem to payout better than BTCGuild, maybe they are just inherently unlucky. Smiley

Maybe BTC Guild is actually running at 101.1% and 1 of every 10 blocks goes straight to the Owner.

Who know.

Sure I have been guilty of thinking this a few times during shitty luck days

Are there any photos or layouts of the upgrade kits for the S1/S2, is it true the S2 could be upgraded to do 2Th/s?

That's the theory right now, but nothing has been released, AFAIK, other than the drawing in the OP.

I don't think S2 upgrades are that high on their priority list tbh, will be a month or two before they bother offering upgrades for them, simply doesn't make sense to upgrade the S2s yet.

S2 will be profitable to mine in the next two months, and it will be perfect time to upgrade then.

I have to disagree. I have several, and with the difficulty climbing this fast you would be shocked to see how slow they bring in reward .. I'm telling you all right now… The 500 GH's system was the wrong move for Bitmain to be focused on .. Whoever made that move should be let go ..

Perhaps the hash power is less than optimal but I am totally happy with the S1 form factor in the S3. Even better now with 2 low noise fans.

I can't see the S1 to S3 upgrade kit saving you more than what you can net $$$ selling your S1s.

In my neck of the woods I can sell the S1s $200 cash easy.

For those planning to upgrade their S2's . Do you think Bitmain will provide the below parts to use the old hashing boards  instead of having them sit on a shelf ?

Would be nice, if they could sell the following only:
Quote
      1 Power Board;
       1 set of IO Board + BB Board + SD card;
       2 sets of Fans + Fans’ cover;
       1 LCD screen;

Try thinking out of the box?  Keep your S2 intact and buy two S3's  Shocked  magic!

You can think like that when you have access to unlimited power. For those that would like to put as much hashing power as possible on the same outlet, especially if no PSU upgrade is required. It is best to do the upgrade and resell the old hashing boards. That way you increase your hashing power while keeping the power requirements constant.

magic lol

If you took a little more time reading the quote that I was replying too

"Do you think Bitmain will provide the below parts to use the old hashing boards  instead of having them sit on a shelf ?"

The OP wanted to reuse the old hashing boards thus why not keep his S2 intact as is. Pointless to take the boards out of the original box to stick them in another.

The SP30 will be 6TH / 2.8kW / 2U very soon - bitmain needs a similar pro-level mining device. T

I will buy 1 at 1 BTC. Evaluate if it's as solid as the S1 then if its as good or better then I hope there are S3 coupons waiting for me in my Bitmain account to buy more Smiley
