The Panthers and Tigers are getting to do battle while the Lions and Kangaroos will have their second clash.

As with last night before the Broncos and Eels I expected the Broncos to win, however, the Eels played a better second half while the Broncos faltered. Having said that, the Tiger's might pull off an expected win over the Panthers.

The Lions on the other hand should strengthen their games and win more comfortably in Melbourne thus taking the series.

I've been on the road for a few days, so I'm going to have to tally up and report after I get home late tonight.

How does everyone else keep track?

A mixture of memory, a counting app and if I encounter a mixture of stairs I'll jot a note on my phone.
Nice.  Do you talk to your phone much?

Most of the people I correspond with is done via text - short SMS size exchanges on whichever is their preferred platform.  If a number comes up on caller I.D. I don't recognise (or is number withheld), I tend not to answer those.  I've also found a spam call blocker via F-Droid where I can block an SMS if it have certain words, or even a band of numbers from e.g. xx781 to xx790.

I've been out and about daily, but have encountered six, five ... four etc stairs.  Not enough to warrant counting.  Yesterday I had a set of twenty-five and ten which I went up, then down.

A couple of people I've talked to are in agreement the Panther's played casual games early in the season - even allowing themselves to loose games, while ramping up their game play with enough weeks left in the season to climb into the top eight so that they can then win yeat another series.  It's a VERY risky strategy (especially if money has been put on gaming sites at more favourable odds).  The Panther's won their game easily against the Rabbitohs who are sliding ever closer to their wooden spoon (demotion/relegation) status.

The Titans are in 17th spot having never won a premiership.  Like the Broncos, they are a manufactured team (unlke the Dolphins who've played and won the Queensland Cup many times over the years).

All eyes will be on Lang Park tonight...  Last night, the other Lions (the Former Brisbane Bares, now Lions) played AFL (think school children who don't know how to play rugby just running around in circles making up the rules as the play) at Brisbane's Wooloongabba Cricket Stadium.  All afternoon thunderclouds darkened Brisbane's skyline and after dark various suburbs got a torrential downpour of rain.  There was lightning on the north-side, while the western suburbs got hail.  By midnight it was over.  If I'd been posting last night, I would have said the weather will give the touring Lion's an extra edge, but this morning the skies are cloudless and clear.  Lang Park's field will dry out nicely for tonight's game (but it will get slippery after dark because of the dew).  Temperatures have dropped too.

Given the lack of points by any Australian team during their friendlies, I'm concerned it's going to be yet another practice session by the visitors.

Tonight game three kicks off while the Lions are going to have yet another practise session.

Either way, it should be good to watch. The SOO series will be decided tonight by who ever kicks a last second field goal. I expect it will be that close

Australia's Wallabys win a tight game ahead of their showdown with the Lion's in a couple of weeks time.

Queensland were $17.00 an hour before kick off with the Lions at $1.01 However, after the Red's scored two early tries the odds shifted dramatically (not enough to drop $100 on the table for the Lion's to win) after which the Lions scored again and again to catch up and overtake the Reds then win.

I heard the Bulldogs Vs Broncos game on the radio while out and about Friday. The Bulldogs blitz the first half before the Broncos came out and scored four late tries to win taking them to fifth ahead of the Panthers.

Canberra continued their winning streak with another win.

The Storm overcame a scare by the Cowboys.

The Tigers broke their own loosing streak with a strong win over the Roosters by two points (all of their recent losses have been by two or four points)

While last night the sea Eagles returned to form with a 30 - 12 win over the Roosters.

I would have loved to watch the Lions practice session with the Western Farce, however, I'm watching the Dolphins having a practice session with the Rabbitohs. Commentators are rubbishing the once rust-proof coach of the Rabbitohs who's team have had something like a ten or eleven game lossing streek.

The Rabbitohs are out of the competition with the commentators observing they can't score enough wins to climb into the top eight.

The coaches old team (Dolphins) are teaching the coaches new team (Rabbitohs) a valuable lesson.

Whats happening here?

Why nobody is waving about the Pumas or argetinian win against the British and Irish Lions combined?  Grin

And plus why this thread was so silent in this last days? No rugby play?

Just come here to greet about the Pumas win.

I hope someone of you take money from them. You bet for them right?  Grin Cheesy

That was such a great win, kind of a bit unexpected but the Pumas had the advantage
of playing a team which are together for the first time. That said the Pumas are
a formidable team with some of their players playing already their clum rugby in Europe
so they get great experience learning the european way.

No I didnt bet on this match, I would have backed the Lions though. Did you back
your home team?

Congratulations to Argentina!  If you scroll back through the pages, we've mentioned them time and again.  We need more regular contributors to this thread.

My main topic discussions are around the NRL in Australia and the Pacifica Rugby competitions (the recent semi's were a knock out style before the final which the Crusaders won).

How Crusaders’ resilience toppled the Chiefs in epic final – Phil Gifford
Contributing Sports Writer·NZ Herald 22 Jun, 2025 06:05 PM

Quote
Two teams desperate to win provided 80 minutes of almost scary intensity before the Crusaders’ 16-12 victory over the Chiefs in Saturday night’s final made them the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific champions.

On what, with the winter solstice, was literally the longest night of the year, time moved...

On Wednesday, I got $3 on Queensland winning game two of the NRL State of Origin a mear two hours prior to kick-off.  At half time, the fortunes had changed when Queensland were 28-6 ahead of their southern counterparts.  The odds had changed and New South Wales were on the back foot and at $7 to Qld's near even money.  In the second half, new south Wales clawed back much of their first half losses, but in the last five minutes with the score at 28-26 to Qld, the ball changed direction so many times before Queensland gained possession with less than one minute on the clock to win game two and keep the series alive.  Game 3 will be played on the 10th of July in Sydney.

Not to be outdone, the following evening, the Under 19's SOO was held with the Queensland Men winning in similar last minutes regaining possession.  (it would seem the Qld women weren't as fortunate with the NSW U-19's lifting their corresponding trophy).

Over the week-end, most of the NRL games played were dynamite with unexpected wins by the less favoured teams.  (one of those weeks I haven't had time to place bets - I would have lost a bundle)

The Panthers have clawed their way into 8th place on the ladder with a 28-18 win against the Auckland Warriors in Auckland. (the Dolphins with seven wins are just behind the Panthers in 9th position)

There is a clear top 4: https://www.nrl.com/ladder/?competition=111&round=16&season=2025

The Bulldogs are ahead of the Raiders only because they received two points on the week-end due to their BYE.

However, the rest of the table is anyone's guess, even after 16 rounds:

As you can see, there is just 6 points (i.e. three wins) separating 5th and 17th places.  Like the Panthers, the Titans could jump ahead of the Broncos, Sharks and Roosters if those teams lost four games and the Titans won four.

Of the two halves (a midzone and a wooden spoon section), it's hard to say whether or not the Cowboys would be in the mid-zone with the tied game and fifteen points, or if they should be categorised as being in the "demotion zone" as I like to refer to the bottom rungs of the ladder.

This year is anything but routine, or ordinary.  True, we have a clear top four, but the rest of the ladder is anyone's guess.

The SOO kicks off in four hours. Queensland are fired up for their showdown in Perth with the NSW team having won by 32 points in the two previous encounters in Western Australia.

All of which has overshadowed the announcement by Rugby Australia of an "Rugby Superleague Oz" competition kicking off next year. Not sure if the four Australian teams are pulling out of the Pacifica Cup, or, it's a stand alone series.

Without a doubt the Dolphins 150+ points in their last three games and Queensland's Captain being dumped from the team (followed by the Sea Eagles 28 - 8 loss to the bottom rung Titans would have to be the white hot talking points of the shortened week.

The Dolphins are now in sixth spot on 16 points together with the Broncos and Roosters

In 48 hours, Queensland will try to claw back some dignity when they play NSW in Perth (not ordinarily known as a League stronghold).
