Etc isn't going to be your savior lol, its a shitcoin and always will be a shitcoin.  I say this as someone who mines it with some old gpu's but the chain has virtually no purpose or prospects for doing anything meaningful.

Eth flipping the pow switch to "off" will be amazing for the gpu market, me thinks it will be crazier than any gpu crash of the past.  I really really hope rtx 3080s get super cheap as millions of them are sold off to the resale market.  How wonderful would it be in the chaos to grab a few of these high end gpus on the cheap and start prepping for the next bullrun and rise of a high tps pow blockchain.  Mining profits will be crap for a good while but the market will balance out after awhile

If you look on ebay they are very expensive, as all gpus are currently.
Honestly i would wait and buy a new gpu when they become cheaper as the market enters a deep bear.

Re: Is $34k the bottom??

We have not hit daily rsi levels this low in a very long time, only a few times in bitcoins history do they go below 20 rsi.
Even then there still is no point in calling the bottom, but we should be close.

If we can build a recovery from this point then things could start to look a bit better.

I wouldn't be caught dead hodling any inflated alt coins, as the bear collapses the market they will probably lose 95% of their value.
We see it happen every cycle, even the better alt coins loose a lot of value or outright disappear.

if/when gpu's become affordable again you may look into an investment in those for the next cycle, along with bitcoin.

Re: Is $30k the bottom for this dip?
by

The 200 weekly is 19k so that should be the true bottom, as even in sustained bear markets for years has not broken it in the past.

28-30k is a fair value for a local bitcoin bottom , last time that is where volume stepped in last time for a trend shift in the market to bullish.
In reality there is no way to know until volume steps in to set a reversal in motion and until then nothing but guessing.

Re: Do you believe Michael Saylor is currently getting antsy?

People like Saylor have very long term projections on bitcoin, their positions are so massive that it takes long periods of time for them to accumulate them.
So the short term price is not that much of a concern, they look for global adoption increasing each year.
All industries experience downturns, even revolutionary ones.

Re: Supercycle or Halving cycle still?
by

We are still in the halving cycle but so far each cycle has lengthened with diminishing returns, so according to this theory is would be possible to see a new high perhaps by the end of the year.  I think no one would expect it since everyone just assumes now the cycle is over and we will have 3 years of a brutal bear market with no happiness.

You will see actions at the individual state level.
States with abundant power will welcome the miners with incentives (tax cuts) while others would impose high regulation cost.

I could be at this persons location in an hour or 2 but it doesn't seem they are motivated in selling being details are lacking on the gpu rigs.

Simply saying "gpu rigs" is not enough to go on to make an offer.
Which cards, which models, hash rates? too many variables

Re: Helping a friend to shop for GPU online

on 03/07/2021, 15:35:02 UTC
Shopping on Alibaba lately and I came across some rtx3080 at the price of 1700$ to 1800$ while the price on Amazon store is over 2000$ I want to know if this is legit? Though eBay stated the sellers as 100% positive, another worry here is how to identify the LHR GPU and non LHR GPU since it's not written on the case.

You can find cheaper if you dig a bit in alibaba but you must be careful and make sure to keep your payment protected..trust no one.  A lot of farms closed in some regions so there should be a flood of used gpu's being repackaged and sold.

We had plenty of Juice in the PNW, power really wasn't a problem.
But some people here have under sized hvac since the weather usually isn't that crazy, at most we have a few 100f days.
In that case the units simply don't keep up, we got up to 77f inside but our 2 1/2 ton hvac is severely undersized for this house.

My miners have lots of breathing room, so I kept them on  Cool

There is currently too much fear in the market and establishment types are taking advantage to kick bitcoin while it is down.
I think a big bounce will come in to give some relief, and we have only currently returned to the initial bull trend line we started at the run to 20k.

Things were getting too insane, people were making money on scam coins that have 0 use.  So this is the humbling experience people talk about in bitcoin.

If you have a bunch around you can mine haven protocol with them, the profit is pretty good for a 4 year old gpu at about $1.25 per day.   Cool

Re: Will institutional investors kill the four year boom/bust cycle?
by

on 27/12/2020, 16:03:08 UTC

I just read his twitter where he talks about it and I quoted him in the WO thread, but anyway, we should not forget that it is normal to see these theories in a bull market.

In a bear market these theories are either not said or go unnoticed. Having said that, I hope he is right.

If I have understood you well, you are saying that these parabolic moves up won't happen because institutional investors will help stabilize the market. So you are not so bullish as him

Parabolic runs still happen but the "crash" is limited on the downside as other people buy the dip and the run keeps going.

Look at the nasdaq, it has been in a bullrun for 10 years.  So btc could start looking more like a bull run in traditional markets and less like a dot com bubble such as in 2017.

Recently a Mexican Billionaire announced that they put 10% of their liquid holdings into Bitcoin, I think the trend will continue.  For the wealthy being invested in many things that hold or increase value is very important.  They know fiat currencys are being printing at shocking rates and likely that will not stop anytime soon but rather only increase.  Look at the m2 money supply to see for yourself.

Re: When do you think it will be a good moment to sell some of my bitcoin?

I like to compare the previous run in 2016 to this one in 2020, not that those events will play out the same but there are some similarities.  With that in mind we could see a strong break of the ATH in the coming weeks in this bull season and perhaps pump to $22-25k with a sharp sell off to back test support.  We will be back testing eventually but it is a question of when and if that answer is after the ath break then it will be an insane ride throughout 2021.

This is happening quite fast. It is a bit concerning or is that just me? Embarrassed

Why should we be worried if the price goes up? Well we are just at the beginning of the after halving cycle and most of us were expecting it. Institutions are buying, the price is going up, small and smart investors are profiting - so I guess we deserve something good after all the bad things this year.

Re: PhoenixMiner 5.0e: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux)
by

On one rig with 4 rx470 cards, SSD got messed up. I have put it in the other rig to test it if it's working (previously I pulled out the working SSD from this rig).
SSD is ok, but now both of my rigs are messed up. I have reinstalled drivers (tried different versions too), I updated windows (it's windows 7), but I only get 10mh on ethereum per card.

I have another rig with the same 4 rx470 cards and is working fine. I used Macrium to clone this SSD from good rig to two that are not working properly.
I got the same result (10mh per card). I don't know what happened.

I use win 7, tried with some other miners, but I got the same results. Virtual memory is good.

Should I try to BIOS MOD the cards or something?

Did you update drivers?

I did the update from the old blockchain driver and hashrate took a dump, so it looks like amd took away the ethash fix.
Could be wrong but that seems to be the issue as if I point hash to different ethash chain then it mines at the normal rate.

The big difference though in this business and way people expect such high returns is that there is a lot of risk involved.  Other business say someone has a hosting data farm, their income is much more predictable and the threat that new hardware may come out and totally rekt them is very low.

Im only seeing the raven dag consuming about 2500mb on my miners, so I think these cheapo 4gb 470s are good until something like the end of 2021.  I really hope to see more cryptos adopt the KawPow algo, it seems promising as far as keeping the asics at bay.  Last I heard Zcoin is looking into making a switch in future from Mtp since that algo adds a lot of useless data to the blockchain bloating it.
