Is it just me or is GPU mining dying a very quick death?
The profitability of Ethereum mining is highly correlated to the profitability of all gpu mining.  As Ethereum becomes less profitable, people switch their rigs to other coins, which in turns makes their difficulty go up.
Ethereum's difficulty is going up exponentially, and I am also hearing there will be a halving within a month (is this true)?

Of course there is some equilibrium.  Eventually mining becomes unprofitable enough that many quit and the difficulty goes down.  But the only players left competing will be those with sub 4 cent electricity and those who have access to big bulk discounted deals on GPUs and other parts.   I assume that the ROI will be around 12-16 months when this happens and that will probably be as bad as it gets.

It seems like the only thing that can spark a resurgence in GPU mining is if the price of coins go way up.  And I'm thinking at least 5x higher than they are now (which is very possible).

Would like to hear some of your thoughts on the future of GPU mining and the best strategies moving forward.

I mine skein or equihash with 6x1080 Ti on Asus Prime Z270-A rigs.
Maybe I'll try 7 or 8 gpus at some point.

Can you give us any number about the power usage?
I just ordered a few 1080ti and I would like to dimension the PSU
Minimum 150-160w per card. I don't remember the power usage at the wall as I did measurements with different numbers of cards.
You might want a bigger PSU as skein is sometimes worth running at 180-200w per card.

On yiimp I see as high as 280w on the 1080ti.

Depending on your electricity price the sweetspot might be a lot lower.  Hashrates are still very high in the low 200w's.

1080ti build require almost two psu, or a very expensive one, i like to have 6 x 1070 now, however in my gaming rig i've put 2 x 1080ti, because i need density there, i'm using the old asrock h81 pro btc as a MB

How about a 2880 w server PSU?

Philipma1957, which are your favorite mobos to use for your 2 1080ti, 1 1070 itx build?

What do you think the best ones would be for five or more 1080 ti?

There seems to be some variation in what people are doing.

Guys like Philip Ma are doing two 1080 Ti's and a 1070 mini.

Others are doing 8 Ti on a z270A mobo.

What are some of your favorite builds.  Which motherboard are you using.  Which model of card?  What are the pros and cons of your build?

Re: Poloniex either lost, Stole My Ethereum?

Ok, after looking at my etherscan.io and adding all the transactions and mining deposits, it appears that the ethereum never went anywhere.

It's just confusing because on my ledger nano s it has a minus in front of the eth transaction to poloniex and there isn't a plus coming back to me to reflect a refund.

I apologize for the drama.

Poloniex either lost, Stole My Ethereum?

Attempted to make an ethereum deposit into Poloniex.
It never came.
On etherscan it reads " Warning!  Error encountered during contract execution (Out of Gas). "
I never received my my ethereum back and it's been over 24 hours.

I made the deposit from a Ledger Nano S.  The coins were mined...

I would appreciate some help.

Assuming your electricity price isn't that high, aren't the 1060 3GB by far the best value for Nvidia?

I am wondering why there is so much talk of the 1070s and 1080s?

Thanks for the link NiHaoMike.  That looks very interesting.

There was one guy here JoshV06 who had over 150 mining units in Houston, Texas which is as hot and humid as it gets.

It looks like he went out of business though.

The location I'm considering wouldn't be as bad as Houston.

Mining in Hot and Humid Weather (Cooling Costs)

How prohibitive is it to mine in hot and humid weather?

Let's say our location is 90 degrees F (about 32 C) and very humid.

Our costs are 10 cents per kwh and our facility is running 100kw of mining equipment.

The monthly cost of electricity on our mining equipment would be 100kw * 720 (kwh in month) * .1 (price of electricity) = $7,200

1. How much extra do you estimate would it cost to adequately cool the facility?

2. What do you estimate is the monthly cooling cost for the same amount of mining equipment, the same electricity cost, but the weather is 60 degrees F and very dry?

Also, immersion cooling is not allowed.
