This is an incredible analysis.  So TF is sitting thousands of coins.  Who would have ever imagined.  The authorities are going to love this.

dwdoc actually got a reply from our absent host:

You're doing a great job, Dumbfruit.  I'm a dual US/NZ citizen, and I'll certainly join you in a class-action if it comes to that.  But I don't think the time is now.  Frankly, at this point I think the money would be better spent on a good private investigator in Sydney.  I'd' still like to know if anyone on this forum knows TF's name.

TF: It should be pretty clear to you that time is running out.  I still stand by what I told you in an email: I'm willing to leave my coins in longer-term with some verifiable assurances that I'm likely to be paid back in full later on.  By my count, there are some 1500 coins potentially available to you (from JohnHarmer, TomJeff and other relative minnows like me) should you reach out directly to your investors.  We're by far the best friends you have here

TradeFortress:  I'm with the rest of your creditors.  Better for you and us if we work out an arrangement.  Try reaching out.

But be certain that I will join other actions against you if you outright stiff us.

Then again the law might get to you first.

I can tell you personally that if I got 100% of my BTC refunded (or at least a binding promise to refund 100% of my principal in a year while still earning interest on it) and CL overhauled their security (a third-party security audit would go the distance to prove that fact to me) then I'd happily keep all my current deposit

+1

I told TF exactly this in an email several days ago (I have not heard back).  It might be useful to start a list of CL creditors who feel the same way (Dumbfruit, if you'd rather it not clutter up this thread I can start a new one).  First, it seems clear that no one should be forced to take a loss: each and every creditor should have the option of keeping their coins in CL for a time and being paid back in full (with interest of course) at some later date.  Second, however, if enough CL creditors feel this way (particularly some of the large holders; I think the top ten largest creditors account for some 70% of the total on CL; and TomJeff obviously accounts for most of the coins on Inputs), then there should be no grounds for TF to refuse the offer.  And every reason for him to accept, if his business model is any good.  Of course, added security -and transparency- is crucial.  But my guess is that a lot of CL creditors feel the same way.  It would be good to know...

Goodtimes, exactly.  It's a plan I'd seriously entertain.  That's alot of coins right there.  Count me in, and if Dumbfruit is cool with it, please start a thread.  Maybe TF will give us the courtesy of a reply--soon.

Crazyhorse, yep.  Whats the count TF?

TF, you have a great brand and innovative products.

Just an idea. Maybe an investor with  $1 million+ dollars could turn this situation around.  I'd like to see all this succeed--call me crazy but II/CL is still salvageable.

^ This. CL was a great concept with a growing lender base, a successful track record at making BTC loans profitable for itself and its depositors. That is a fact that cannot be denied and it would be a real shame if TF did not capitalize on that fact, which is really his most valuable asset (after our BTC, of course!).

If he was smart he'd be out there working every single connection he could to find a few large investors so as to rectify the situation and then turn this crappy event into killer marketing. I can tell you personally that if I got 100% of my BTC refunded (or at least a binding promise to refund 100% of my principal in a year while still earning interest on it) and CL overhauled their security (a third-party security audit would go the distance to prove that fact to me) then I'd happily keep all my current deposit - and likely increase it by 200-300% right away.

TradeFortress, I hope you have been following the many positive and supportive suggestions in response to my post yesterday.  We want to help.  We recognize the value you have created, and that the comments indicate it can and should be saved.

Everyday that you ignore our thoughts is damaging to your business, and as quoted above--your individual freedom.  I implore you to reach out to us, and the community as a whole and tell us what you need to make us whole.  I placed hundreds of coins in a "secure" wallet.  Using some kind of 'sliding scale' so that you can use large coin balances to pay small balances is not going help you in any way if this gets legal.

Please tell us how we can help you make us whole.  (Yes, I expect all my coins back!!!!!)
Further ideas include:
  • A disclosure of CoinLenders profits, so that interest payments can be applied to losses. Note that svereal Coinlenders have indicated they will stay onboard if you will consider this.
  • Seeking out investor(s).  Maybe too late for crowdfunding, but if you could allow yourself to give up a majority stake, I believe the businesses would grow and you as a minority owner would gain the experience that you need at this point in your otherwise brilliant young career.
  • Try a "Its Wonderful Life" approach.  Ask us to keep our coins in, but give us a percentage now for our sanity.  This would again require disclosure!!!
We get most of our coins back, but you make us shareholders.  You may find that most of would leave coins in.  I would.  Disclosure required.[/li]
[/list]
TF, Bottom line is that you have run out of time.  There was GOODWILL form us--you saw it on the posts, and did nothing to take advantage of it.
You are in a really tough bind--But you do not need to destroy this.  Please write back to us.  I believe we can help you.

Thank you Dumbfruit.

Sincerely
TomJeff

Update from TomJeff.  Its been almost 3 days since I wrote support@inputs.io. (This was not a CL acct)
As you know I had a very large amount (440btc) .
I have not received any refund as of now.  It seems that almost all other inputs accounts have been satistified.
If anyone has any other contacts or information, please let me know.
Thank you.

Does anybody have a good idea to raise some funds? Is it crazy for us if we ask other online wallets, trading sites, or organizations (coinbase, blockchain.info, mtgox, bitcoin foudation, coindesk, bitcoin magazine...) to sponsor this project somehow in order to get some good publicity and unlink the name of bitcoin with scammers and hackers?  As I said somewhere before, I´m not an expert. Sorry if I´m saying something stupid but I just can´t keep myself silent after this catastrophe... I just don´t want to imagine a scenario in which some people received partial refunds, others none, and at the end, everything is forgotten... until the next big rob happens.

We can´t keep ourselves silent!

Hopefully we all learned the lesson here... some of us cheaply, and some at an extremely dire price: Be wary of every and all third parties when dealing with BTC, online wallets are just looking for trouble and zero liability is asking for even more trouble.  Embarrassed But yes, at this stage, an incident like this must not remain forgotten, especially if we want Bitcoin to be widely adopted. It was not okay in the MyBitcoin days, and it's certainly worse today.

Anyway, let's stick to the topic.

Hear, Hear,
Obviously I may be too unwary when it comes to wallets but look at the great press TF got from CoinDesk.  He displayed a Biticoin Foundation SILVER logo on Inputs homepage.  There were many great posts about thst service here.
I agree that there are far too many scams and hacks and this community and it is holding Bitcoin back.  I for one have changed my attitude about Bitcoin since this incident. Some one earlier mentioned a certification service--no, not government intervention, but a way we can evaluate server configs, and ownerships.

This is late 2013.  Too late IMO for a careless hack of this magnitude to occur.
And lastly, yes, I am asking for donations to the OP above.  Please help.
We can't let this go unadressed.  I had put too many coins (because honestly I did not know better) for less that two weeks. And that was just enough to lose them.

So that said, I will offer my help in addressing this service legitimacy issue.  I was looking to get inmore involved and this might as well the way.

This may be completely out of place, but please pray for me, as I am for all you.  I wish you the best.  Bitcoin has so much promise and does not deserve this evil.

I am finally out of newbie land.

Inputs.io
TomJeff: 440 :0 :U   (yes that is 440 btc)!

That's a big amount to give to a stranger.
The following is so true.  I thought I had done research, tested the waters, and so on.

This system is obviously far from perfect at the current time. For one, as it is nascent there exists the incentive to follow short term goals : build an identity up to whatever value, then strip it by taking the money and splitting. This has happened so far numerous times, and from a certain perspective it may seem the main economic activity surrounding Bitcoin at the moment, greatly compounded by the yet inept identity-valuation methods used by participants, their unwarranted self confidence (everyone thinks they’re a great judge of men, and everyone thinks their particular assumptions are both correct and warranted), their imbecillic pride manifested in the stupidest way it could, ie trying to keep “things” under wraps and all the rest of typically human failure. For the other, as it is nascent very little is in fact understood or generally known about it, and so gross mistakes happen quite cavalierly.7 -Mircea Popescu

Details so far-  A day after I sent my claim email to support, I got a reply that my email probably was perhaps a fraudulent request; so could I send a Gvt ID.  OK so I sent my Drivers license a few days ago.  Haven't heard a peep since.  So I dont know what to make of that.

I'm hanging in there.  Its difficult for me lose so much.  It just sounded like such a great, secure service.

Thank you putting this list together.  every bit I can recover means a great deal to me.
J

Yes that is a very large amount to store in an online wallet. Most of the large accounts were kept at Coinlenders where they could (theoretically) earn interest.
The "sliding scale" is going to kill you. I currently have the largest amount listed at Inputs.io at 20.795btc (although I am sure there were larger balances) and I only got back 41.3% so you will probably get back substantially less than 180btc.
On the other hand we don't know what % reimbursement we are getting at Coinlenders so whatever you get back might be the better deal...

Are you saying you actually get a reimbursement?  I'm not hearing anything. If he at least wrote to me and said, "here is what you are getting", well at least I would feel like I'm  NOT going to be scammed out of everything.

I'm still learning about wallets... This is very very hard lesson for me. How did you learn that he had given you your 41.3%.
Thank you so much for sharing. I am having a difficult time right now.

Thank you.
Hundreds of Bitcoins that is.  Very sad error in judgement.

As instructed, On 11/8 I sent an email from my the same email account used on my account. The next day I received an email that that this request was seen as spam, based on 'proprietary' rules. Therefore, they would need a government-issued ID to proceed further.
OK, So I sent my driver's license.
I have sent a few other emails since, but no replies.

I know there is a claim board being put together here, but I can't put on yet as a newbie.

I made the deposit of several hundred coins October 23.  With the intent of moving them soon--not soon enough.  I am trying to hang in there with life,  this was a alot of coins to me.
