"Trump Says US 'Thoroughly Examining' Possibility Virus Leaked From Wuhan Biolab"

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/watch-live-white-house-coronavirus-task-force-holds-wednesday-briefing
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/coronavirus-wuhan-lab-china-compete-us-sources

It looks like the coronavirus was intended to be something that showcases China's ability to detect, and contain viruses better than the US. It is believed that "patient zero" worked in the Biolab in Wuhan, China and subsequently spread the virus to others in Wuhan.

If this is true, I would expect the world to go to War with China within a year.
No, no likelihood of war with China.

There are legitimate reasons for working with such a virus in the appropriate lab.

What most likely happened, something went wrong. Someone blundered, didn't follow protocol. Some idiot on the street found a way to get dead test animals from the lab, sold them in the market. etc, etc.

+1 to all of this. Some people are freaking out and saying that this is a bio weapon, but I think that's so much bullshit. If this was a bioweapon by China, and the American intelligence groups had found that out by now -- Trump and the rest of his admin would've made that public. They would've wanted public support behind starting some sort of war with China (even if it's just economical instead of with a military)

Plus the fact that if this was a bioweapon, this would've been a HORRIBLE bioweapon as they killed and infected a large amount of their own people while doing this. Just saying.

Can't recall where I found this link and it's also almost a month old, but this is a good read on attempts to trace back the origins of the virus and why the authors believe it to be naturally occurring and not man-made:

Some very nice drawings there.

I particularly like the drawing showing the Earth viewed from off planet, with the tree growing in the foreground. To me this represents new life on another planet. Does your son think humans will be living on the Moon or Mars in the near future?

I wonder how he manages not getting infecting being a public person he is. Does anyone know about the protective measures that government people take on public occasions?

Probably because he was given a vaccine before the US released the virus around 6 months ago.

Re: Religion and Morality.
by

Do you really think it's okay for each person to determine for themselves what is moral and what is not?
Personally, I think there needs to be some social consensus on what is acceptable and what is not, otherwise we will have chaos and clutter in society.
And I agree that human morality is relative and changeable but God's morality is absolute and unchangeable, and therefore more reliable.

I'm not only saying that it's okay, I'm saying that the bulk of individuals on the planet already make this determination for themselves based on factors I outlined in my previous post.

We already have a number of social consensus's on what is acceptable; laws and religion are two of the more dominant examples. Laws will differ from state to state and country to country, while religion will differ from person to person. Both will evolve or change over time to suit societal needs. This leaves no absolute common ground on which to form a solid consensus on what is right and wrong.

As an atheist, I can't agree with the last part of your last sentence. If you base your God's morality on any religious scripture, then you're basing it on morality of the human(s) who transcribed/wrote it at the time.

For me, there is no such thing as right and wrong when it comes to morality; there is simply accepted and unaccepted.

Each individual will determine for themselves what they will or won't accept, and will base their actions accordingly. Society, religion, culture, upbringing, environment, laws, individual traits and even current state of mind will all influence what an individual will perceive as acceptable.

As such morality is both subjective and relative.

Re: Did we actually really land on moon?
by

on 25/07/2019, 06:03:52 UTC

"...The detection on Earth of reflections from laser ranging retro-reflectors (LRRRs, or mirrors used as targets for Earth-based tracking lasers) on Lunar Laser Ranging experiments left on the Moon is evidence of landings..." -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third-party_evidence_for_Apollo_Moon_landings

"...The first successful tests were carried out in 1962 when a team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology succeeded in observing laser pulses reflected from the Moon's surface using a laser with a millisecond pulse length..." -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_Laser_Ranging_experiment

Spendy, how do you explain this contradiction? They were bouncing lasers off the Moon almost a decade before the first Moon landing hoax.

Reading comprehension isn't one of your strong points, so let me highlight what you missed in your quote from wikipedia.

"...The first successful tests were carried out in 1962 when a team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology succeeded in observing laser pulses reflected from the Moon's surface using a laser with a millisecond pulse length..."

So the early experiments bounced the lasers directly off the Moon itself, not the reflectors the Apollo missions left on the Moon.

Re: Iran shoots down a U.S. drone

The whole point of a transponder is it allows identification of an aircraft, so by default any aircraft without an active transponder is a potential threat regardless of the airspace it occupies.
That is ridiculous. Any US military aircraft is a threat to Iran, because the US and Iran are enemies.

Planes can do what they wish in international airspace. Unless the aircraft is provoking another aircraft, creating the need for it to be defended, it is unacceptable to attack the aircraft under freedom of navigation laws.

What exactly are you saying is ridiculous? The use of transponders to identify aircraft? Or when an aircraft has no transponder it is a potential threat?

Contrary to your belief, aircraft can not do whatever they want in international airspace; read up on what the International Civil Aviation Organization does.

Re: Iran shoots down a U.S. drone

This is a spy plane, trying to spy on a hostile foreign nation. Of course the plane had its transponder off and of course it was up to no good. Spy planes/drones, well spy. if it was broadcasting its location, Iran would have been tipped off they were being watched, and their radio signals possibly intercepted, and would have the opportunity to try to impose countermeasures against being spied on.

A plane flying over international waters without a transponder on is not a threat and is free to fly under international law. Shooting down a plane traveling in international airspace is an act of war; this is true if the plane had its transponder on or off.

The whole point of a transponder is it allows identification of an aircraft, so by default any aircraft without an active transponder is a potential threat regardless of the airspace it occupies.

The bottom line here is it was an UAV designed solely for the purpose of surveillance which was shot down with no loss of human life. It's the equivalent to someone flying a drone with a camera over/near your property and filming you while you shoot it down with your shotgun.

The sooner Huawei release their own OS the better as far as I'm concerned. It will open up an alternative to both Android and iOS.

Regardless of which OS you use though, data mining is here to stay and it boils down to which OS and apps you feel more comfortable with.

Re: Which One Will You Choose From Intel Than AMD Processor ?
by
TooQik
on 23/03/2019, 22:51:27 UTC
Most people ask this question without going into any details about what they want to use their PC for, which makes it difficult to offer a reply that can be helpful to the use case.

After saying this though, I would personally recommend a processor from the AMD Ryzen 2nd generation, or if you can wait a few months, the upcoming 3rd generation which will soon to be released. While Intel have had the IPC advantage for some time, as of right now that advantage is negligible and Intel really only has higher clocks speeds to keep them in front performance wise.

If processor security is a concern for you, then current Intel processors have a number of outstanding issues that still need to be addressed that make AMD a more secure choice. It's quite likely that Intel processors IPC will be degraded when addressing these security issues.

From a price and performance perspective, AMD wins hands down over Intel, and you'll get a better value product for your money.

If you're purely a gamer, then Intel currently offers a marginal advantage, but this will vary game to game and is largely dependent on your GPU more-so that the CPU. You'd actually be hard pressed to notice any difference between an Intel or AMD processor when playing most games if all other hardware components were identical.

Heat isn't a concern for either AMD or Intel processors currently, unless you start playing around with overclocking. Then you need to start looking at upgrading your cooling options over any factory offerings. It's also worth noting, that higher end Intel processors generally don't come with cooling included, while AMD processors do.

If you're into video editing, 3D modelling, content creation, CAD or need to run a specific application, then do some research on the application you use and find some benchmarks for the processor you're looking at buying. For example, here's a roundup for Premiere Pro which shows how a number of processors perform different tasks:

        https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Premiere-Pro-CC-2019-CPU-Roundup-Intel-vs-AMD-vs-Mac-1320/

For the record, I currently use an AMD Ryzen 1700. Prior to this I had both an Intel i5-3570K and an AMD FX-8350, I actually still have the FX-8350.

Re: Is Jesus God or the son of God?
by
TooQik
on 31/12/2018, 15:03:38 UTC
Jesus is neither God or the son of God.

If he existed at all, he was a man, plain and simple.

Gods only exist in our imaginations, if we chose so to believe. If you're of the inclination that God exists, ask yourself one question, why would only a single god exist? There's either many or none and there exists no physical evidence to support the existence of any. Many people will say that I'm wrong and there is plenty of evidence to support a god, but this evidence is subjective at best, or the doings of men to twist human kind to their will at worst.

At the end of the day I have no issue with anyone who believes in a supreme being if it makes them a better person. Unfortunately any existence of gods is tainted with the man made sect of religion, which sours any and all positives in this regard, as religion is the most intolerant, sexist, violent and judgemental creation ever to have been thought into existence.

They're actually pieces of the dome; it's a long grain Damascus type of manufactured nickel-iron steel alloy with a gloden oxide.

How does batty know this?  Was he able to evade the massive UN navy and penetrate the extreme electrical field to test the dome?

 Huh

I'd expect the list of things that notbatman has penetrated to be a short one.  Tongue

I think it's interesting that notbatman has actually stated he believes the Sun is 32 arcminutes in size, as this is a constant value that contradicts his Flat Earth model.

Why only a couple of days ago he posted a gif of the Sun changing size as it moved as his proof that the Sun is close.

[edit]

As I said, I'm not interested in whos wrong and whos right, so I'm not going to stick around to bicker. I'm interested in interesting thoughts. Someone looking for proof of a mundane thing is great. Making claims and then rather than explaining your claims, trying to pick a fight is boring.

[/edit]

Unfortunately notbatman isn't interested in anything but picking fights with those who don't share his/her views on the shape of the Earth.

You can try and engage him/her in an open discussion but as you've witnessed, you'll get ridiculed, abused, told to go kill yourself, ignored, have the conversation point changes mid discussion or any combination of the aforementioned.

As you've mentioned, the best thing attempting to have this discussion with notbatman is that you get to push your own understandings.

....

If I'm to change my view from "we are not on a sphere" I need something that I experience for myself that would prove the spherical nature of the earth.  Else, I am putting what I experience in my own life to the side to believe in what authority and consensus tells me.

For me the boat disappearing behind the curve just doesn't do it for me as with stronger and stronger viewing devices I can bring the ship back until the atmospheric conditions make that impossible.  Yes I have really done this as when I was first introduced I tried to disprove it as a science project with my son.  Its the same as watching your friend travel away from you a distance.  He will start disappearing form the bottom half as he moves out in the distance.

.....

I think the question you need to ask is why does an object moving further away always disappear from the bottom?

You know from your perspective research that as an object moves away from the viewer it gets smaller and smaller until it reaches an angular size that the naked eye can no longer distinguish from the background. It's at this point that you can use a camera, telescope or binoculars to bring the object back into view if their magnification levels are adequate. At no time does any edge of the object start to vanish before any other edge, this only occurs when another object obscures the original object.

So taking all this into consideration, if an object starts to disappear from the bottom as it moves further away from you, what is obscuring the object?

The bottom part of an object like a boat is obscured by a reflection of the area just above it. As the boat gets farther away it gets smaller and a complex form of superior mirage that's seen in a narrow band along the horizon called a Fata Morgana which remains the same size, covers more and more of it. Eventually the angular size of the boat is so small the entire vessel is engulfed by the mirage and disappears.

And when conditions are such that no mirages are present?
