Wait till governments take Bitcoin seriously and start regulate it. This will be a great opportunity for new altcoins designed specially to fit or get around those regulations.
Or more likely, they will create their own coin, premine all of the coins, and regulate those.
2) Are there realistic options in Alt currencies that the GPU could be useful for vs ASIC - can ASIC at this point or in the near future be used in Alt?
Litecoin and Feathercoin seem promising at this point

3) Are there any realistic ASIC options at this point, all the sellers seem rather dodgy to me?
I'd avoid ASIC's at this point, seems really hard to be successful

4) What other angles could I look at other than actually buying Bitcoin of course?
I'll sell you one for 0.12 BTC + shipping and walk you through setting it up.
I see people using these hubs and stuff, for multiple ones. How hard is it if I bought like 9 of them, and hooked them up to run 24/7? Will it work on an old computer? And how much startup costs? I have the computer, thats all.
If you had 9 of them running 24/7, you'd mine about 0.09 BTC a day (from what people elsewhere are telling me)

Looks very interesting, like a ressurection of Liquidcoin , Although I think it's going to die out just as quick
It would be nice to leverage the enthusiasm of the bitcoin community for crowdfunding. Do you think that this would still be viable if kickstarter decided to accept BTC?
I personally think there would be no need for them if Kickstarter accepts BTC
