With regards to this article : http://www.coindesk.com/not-just-bitcoin-the-top-7-cryptocurrencies-all-gained-in-2016/

I do find it a bit disappointing that Coindesk assumes our growth of 3x price-wise and 4x marketcap-wise only got realised
because of our name-change. Not a word about our decentralized governance model, our decentralized budget model and
the incentivized elements of our masternode network. This means we have some educating to do in 2017 towards Coindesk.

Well to be fair, our MAIN LANDING PAGE (at the moment) still offers ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of the sort to explain all that. Pretty mind blowing to me. Kinda like, how would people know about all the new features of a new iPad if apple never mentions anything about it on their website?

I can't understand why nobody will work on merchant direct acceptance of Dash!  NO, not Walmart, not McDonnalds, etc... the SMALL guy who would truly benefit from accepting Dash.

For that you need the Odoo plugin type technology that was the subject of a DGBB proposal the other day.

That would indeed be awesome as well, but I'm talking the forgotten nobodies with little booths at events or flea markets that, together, make up a HUGE economy.  They don't need KYC, they don't need anything except ways to sell their goods.  A truly exacting group of people to focus on.  They actually make a living with their little shops, but barely.  With a little accounting software that is super easy to use for their purposes, it would give them an edge.  No more selling that necklace that cost you $11.95 to make, but you accidentally sold it for $6 because you mixed it up with that other necklace you made.  At a glance they can see their break even point.  That alone would be awesome.  And have it work on a phone syncable to their computer at home.

That's the lure, nothing complex, because these people can't handle complex (or very few can)  Not because they're stupid, but probably because they have ADHD or something and it drives them nuts, I'm one of those, I hate accounting and finance and all that, ROFLMO, how I got here, I have idea!

I want to say that it's really just a huge uphill battle until we have the "Evolution" experience in full swing. Thus I'm not really worried because I see this as almost one of those if we just "build it, they will come" scenarios

So according to coin.dance, with the btc core node count at 4274 (assuming accuracy) and dash's masternode count currently at 4121, Dash has ~96% of bitcoin core's infrastructure at less than 1% of its marketcap. Blows my mind.

Hey everybody, I created a new proposal to open discussion on creating a new PR video for the community. Ive seen some great infographics created by community members and I think a video would further compliment everything nicely.

Several questions obviously. Are you spearheading this project? Do you have experience producing videos? Who is going to produce this video? Who is writing the script? Is this coordinated with the PR campaign?

It's all fine and good to say "hey gang, let's make a movie!". It's quite another thing to actually do it. Somebody actually has to do it.

100% agree. And my intentions again are to utilize this amazing budget platform see if the community is simply behind the idea. I think it could really benefit us all and I was willing to spend the 5 dash to see what everyone else thinks. The actual funding of a project like this would be done in a new proposal witch I would not be spearheading this but I figure we've done this before and we can do it again.

Hey everybody, I created a new proposal to open discussion on creating a new PR video for the community. Ive seen some great infographics created by community members and I think a video would further compliment everything nicely. Via dashwhale:

Dash now has technology superior to bitcoin. People need to realize this. The only thing inferior about the network at this point is its total node count, which actually is almost as robust as bitcoin's with having only a fraction of its market capital -and unlike bitcoin, the count is growing.

And while I like the 'What is Dash' video, I believe we can benefit from a video with a more focused message. The 'What is Dash?' video boasts dash's features broadly, as a mix of being better than bitcoin and better than fiat. Thus its a video I feel is actually targeting those too far away from where we are in the adoption curve currently. We need to target the 'better than bitcoin' half of the equation and get the message out there to those who understand cryptocurrency: We have a more perfect protocol. We have a better incentive model. And as such we're able to have privacy, instant transactions, decentralized governance, and are completely self funded. Single tier networks are boat sails. A two tiered network is a steam engine. We've evolved. And this is all without even getting into dash evolution..

So I propose we open up discussion on allocating a portion of the budget one month in a new proposal for the creation of a new video: Dash vs Bitcoin (dubbed/captioned in multiple languages if possible)

Re: General Opinion on Ethereum
by

After my research and understanding I feel ethereum will certainly grow in adoption as it is building what I see as the next de facto platform for the web. However, Ethereum is not a monetary instrument. It is used as digital "fuel" for the smart contracts. Additionally, ethereum is infinitely inflational. Its not necessarily bad economically, but when approached as a monetary instrument this means ether will only grow in value when the demand for them exceeds the supply. And right now the demand is still far in the future when more platforms like augur, boardroom, and airlock launch and gain adoption, meaning any ether bought now is practically guaranteed to decrease in value simply through inflation.

How about polling the masternodes to see what the general consensus is for a percentage and wait time?

Dash appears to be solving bitcoin's political/funding centralization issues with its decentralized governance by blockchain.
Somewhat crude, but truly revolutionary and amazing.

Now Dash Evolution aside, I really believe the next biggest competition within the cryptocurrency space will be the coin who can perfect its governance model.

Can the dash masternode community collaborate on a more refined "constitution"? Like voting percentages, amendments, etc. ?
Bitcoin got too big and flashed its Achilles heel with regards to its inability to reach a political consensus.
Dash addresses this issue with DGBB but I cant help but wonder that it too can be subject to failing under its own weight if more specific details aren't ironed out early on.

Everybody makes very valid points. Going back to possibly paying somebody for a rebrand overhaul, I feel as though paying said person in 'sling' would not be in our best interest considering how low the price is and how heavy all of our 'bags' are at this point. Would they accept btc? with the price fluctuating between 3500-7500 sats thats anywhere from 1.75 to 3.75 btc

Also, im no programmer either but maybe is it possible/practical to integrate reviews as a part of the escrow process?

If possible, it would be great if there could be some kind of implementation of a reputation system for sellers. Because in dark markets reputation is everything and crucial for business transactions to happen

The only problem I see with just a (prefix)LIST name is people might not identify it as a coin right away.

Personally, I see what you mean but I feel as though that shouldn't be much of a concern.
I feel like the marketing/branding efforts should be focused on the primary defining feature: the marketplace

Thus it should be seen as more of a marketplace with its own coin as opposed to a coin with its own marketplace.

The sling 'coin' itself is nothing innovative, but obviously the market feature is.
Sling is bleeding edge and has the advantage of being first in the 'decentralized market' market.
As such, I think sling should be looking to capture as much marketshare as possible before others have the opportunity to copy its underlying technology.

And I feel the best way to do so again is to keep the focus on the marketplace and getting people to use the market which indirectly gets them to use the coin

Ive been thinking about the possible rebrand.
As well as future development possibilities

The more I think about it, the more I feel this coin should take in the direction of craigslist.
Its a very simple interface, already very recognized, and most importantly:

It succeeds at maintaining a neutral image while containing  both common goods and illicit services

This I believe is a key factor that if followed can help drive adoption/demand of sling.
Because realistically, the only markets that are in need of decentralization are those that are at risk of seizure/shutdown, ie: dark markets.
And it is only after a decentralized market proves why decentralization is useful that the mainstream would follow suit.
And a name like craigslist can also psychologically help ease this transition.

What do you guys think of the name DansList (symbol "LIST" )?
Decentralized Autonomous Network.
Or really (anything)list.
I just like the LIST symbol and its fitting associations.

Even better is that the infrastructure for the whole concept is pretty much already there.
I mean the hard part of developing the underlying technology is already done.
Just add more categories and subcategories.
The encrypted messaging feature compliments 'listings' perfectly.

A fully working decentralized marketplace!? This is great!!

To me, the market to me appears to be more of a proof of concept than a fully functional service. I think with future development it can become an ebay/amazon type of interface but for now maybe it should strive for a 'craigslist' feel (which still works amazingly well).

Additionally, since using this market requires purchasing btc and then converting them to sling, perhaps if its not too hard there could be an in-wallet exchange. I believe this would help consolidate the "sling experience". Perhaps maybe even have it function like a cashier/store where rather than converting an specific amount of btc to sling a person can buy 'chunks' of sling, ie: 0.1 btc = x sling, 0.25 btc = xx sling, 0.5 btc = xxxx sling, etc?

Finally, has anybody bought anything yet???
If not, who wants to make history with me? This could be another chance to be that guy who bought a pizza for like 10,000  btc except this time its with sling. It doesn't have to be anything expensive and personally I would prefer it to be something super cheap (like less than $5) especially with the price of sling as low as it is. So how bout it? Smiley

Lets talk about this when bitcoin goes mainstream. Maybe it will take 3 more decades for that.

I dont know if you're one who believes in the collapse of fiat, but should the world's reserve currency of the  US Dollar collapse I can see global adoption implementing like a domino effect as the world struggles to regain monetary stability. (in my opinion it would be much faster out of sheer desperation, like 5 to at most 10 years)

Re: Easy way to explain bitcoin
by
TwoCoins1Purse
on 22/09/2014, 04:22:10 UTC
I always explain it like this:

Bitcoin is simply a virtual unit that is impossible to counterfeit and has a finite total of only 21 million in existence.
The creation of this finite unit supply is controlled by mathematics, not people. And the mathematical framework also acts as the actual payment network.

It is because of these characteristics Bitcoin emulates all of the properties of money used in trade.

But what makes it so special is that it is 100% politically neutral. No government can control it, shut it down, or manipulate its supply thus, Bitcoin's value is determined completely by the free market making it the best and fairest form of money in the world.
