the whole forum structure lends itself to its own demise.  It encourages people who have absolutely nothing to say to spew random off the cuff nonsense.

do you have a card in the first x16 slot? I had a similar issue when I used an x1 to x16 riser for cooling purposes. I put it in the first x1 slot on my MB and it kept crashing cgminer.  I got an x16 to x16 riser and added another card to the first x16 slot and everything worked great

Re: Just set up my little bitcoin mining kit - advice welcomed!

Advice;

- Dump GUIMiner and learn to love CGMiner directly
- Install either Sapphire Trix or MSI Afterburner
- Overclock your cards' GPUs to at least 1130MHz. Downclock memory to 600MHz to save energy and generate less heat

Should yield you a stable ~685MHs hashing on a 7970.

So far, this is the best advice on this thread. CGMiner is awesome. I'm getting these same numbers stable on my 7970 rig.

I second this

remove your xfire, use windows 8 and you might need to get a powered riser http://cryptosupply.com/products/powered-1x-to-16x-pci-e-riser-cable

I had a similar issues and after a lot of troubleshooting I decided that one of my cards was bad. RMA'd it with newegg and have had no issues with the new card

GPU mining is already happening. mtrlt, who made reaper, has been mining it for a while, and it's easy to assume others are also. He has no immediate plans on releasing source because he can still make a decent amount with his cards.  Makes sense to me, and you can't really fault the guy for it when he's done the work himself.

I thought YAC was dead?

Re: If you couldnt buy or sell BTC, what would you do with them?

You know if its ever made illegal.

How would making it illegal to buy or sell bitcoins prevent it from happening?  That approach hasn't worked too well with buying or selling drugs.

There's no law in existence that has ever stopped anything Tongue  Bitcoin's gonna keep happening per usual, with law or without law; it's simply something outside of the government purview.

Exactly, look at prohibition
