Couple of updates since my last post:
The bulk of our Validating Node's prototype version has been uploaded to UDC's github repository, and the rest will follow soon.

Meanwhile we've also started building our wiki, available directly in our website at https://udc.world/wiki.
We've published so far UDC 's network communications protocol, although descriptions for each message will be added ulteriorly.

sure but such volatility reduces the adoption potential of bitcoin... most people prefer a stable value (or of course a continuous increase Wink)

Re: Why Bitcoins is now same as paypal(and worst)
by
UDC
on 07/03/2017, 20:07:44 UTC
i agree that now bitcoin is same as paypal for the quantity of fee you need, paypal is 3.5%, which mean that for small transaction it's nothing, but for bigger transaction is quite a pain, with bitcoin it's the opposite, high fee with small amount and not so high with high amount

on the other hand paypal has reduced fees for microtransactions. So if delays or even fees keep increasing, btc becomes less useful for regular users (vs. investors/speculators that move larger amounts).

That's true, I don't agree with OP putting this here, he should have moved it to politics and society section. They cannot hack our blockchain because of decentralization, that I can guarantee but other forms of governmental manipulations well it's up in their hands.

they just need to hack the major miners though, since what matters is the hash rate

We've recently launched our Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign and are offering early and exclusive access to certain perks. So that backers can reserve and join early on, without any hassle or going through public contests (i.e. Slots attribution, DAO or DAS integration), which will occur upon UDC launch.
The funds gathered will go towards building UDC infrastructure (i.e. server & other hardware, mainly for the PKI, which is obviously too sensitive to be migrated to the cloud), network resources for the next couple of months and software development. In exchange, we're offering different types of rewards:
  • Personal accounts from any normal or Premium Slot, while those from official Slots are conditioned to the rewards below. Since they're permanently linked to a key pair, they're essentially lifetime, therefore attributed in a first come first serve manner.
  • Slots, enabling those interested in becoming Managing Entities to select their own without competition and start developing their services and user base in preparation for UDC launch. Currently, 1 and 5 year leases are available but, as you may know, the Slots attributions work similarly to domain names and can therefore be indefinitely renewed.
  • DAO and DAS smart contracts modules, although each limited to 10 projects. Basically, this enables anyone with a project or idea for a DAO or DAS (Distributed Automatic Service), to be integrated into UDC, to propose it and have us build it. All the while, retaining complete ownership over the developed software, including the fees generated by them.

As communicated through our website, we're currently testing the first version of our Validating Node.
And later this month (or beginning of April) we'll try to launch a live preview of UDC, accessible via our website also.

In the meantime, we'll start publishing the network specifications, communication protocols and smart contracts (DAO and DAS) development guidelines.
And keep uploading the Validating Node source code during the next weeks (only a couple of basic files were sent because of the current tests, so disregard it for now).

well they're increasing their fees for multiple options and even for currency conversion, adding 0.5% (e.g. 4.0% -> 4.5%), so bitcoin is only getting more attractive to sellers.

Re: What do you think are the biggest disadvantages of Bitcoin?

how can you say that this is the disadvantage of bitcoin. i think bitcoin is still not so much mature it still need a good time to become more famous. i think it will still take some time when merchants will accept bitcoin and will do trade in bitcoin. the transaction problem will also be solved very soon.

i mean, bitcoin already has 8 years, and you'd expect that cryptocurrency with a $16billion market capitalization (~= top120 country by gdp) would be "mature"

Thats not a problem. They pass the payment of these fees to the customers. Ever wonder why the stores give you a discount whenever you pay them in cash? Its not really a discount. Its the real price. You pay more when you use your credit card because it is you who the fees themselves.

don't know where you live but having been on multiple european countries that's not really the case, although many have a minimum purchase amount for paying with cc.
Also if they're giving you a discount when paying with cash its mostly because they're probably not going to register that sale and pay the corresponding tax..

In what European countries do they avoid paying sales tax? Thats Europe, they dont condone such practices. Maybe you are from a third world country where avoiding taxes is rampant because your government is very inefficient in collecting them.

It is a known fact that the consumers themselves pay for the credit card fees. So I dont know what planet you're from.

TIL fraud doesn't exist! Thank you pinkflower for your insight! although i'm suspecting your name is some euphemism related to your level of expertise (or lack thereof) about SME/companies and society in general.

If you have a legitimate business plan and such, you can toss me a PM. I might be interested in it (along with others).

thanks i'll keep that in mind, but i'm only scouting at the moment, nothing formalized as of now.
Although i plan on having an operational/test network before then.

an ICO doesn't make sense in my case, no benefit from either the investors' perspective or "mine".

What's the amount you're looking to raise? May be worth going a private route, depending on how much that is.

well in the ball park of 10-100k.

expect something like 1 week.
SEPA transfers (within european union) usually take 2-3 days between countries, so it should take a bit more.

Hey,
so does anyone know any alternative to BankToTheFuture for equity crowdfunding (similar to an ICO but with shares instead of coins),
more suited for startups looking for initial investment and that also accepts BTC/other cryptos?
