Cointelligence: Scam that calls everyone else a scam

Guys, I found the article below on one forum and was shocked. I planned to participate in their Academy but now - no way in hell.
I googled further and found more articles about Cointelligence and its CEO On Yavin.
On always pretended to look like a scam hunter, but looks like he is a scammer.

Please check out these articles and express your opinion!
P.S. I just wonder why On Yavin not in jail yet.

Cointelligence: Scam that calls everyone else a scam

How cryptocurrency portal Cointelligence and its founder & CEO On Yavin blackmail start-ups, media and politicians to get paid for silence, attract visitors and sell ratings to ICOs.

You may have been heard different crypto and ICO-related scandals somewhere on Twitter, LinkedIn or other social media. And sometimes you could hear Cointelligence and its founder On Yavin in personal. This guy positions itself as a scam hunter and that he helps to detect scammy or fraudulent projects. You would probably click on his scandal headlines like “Fraudulent KPMG “financial advisor” scams women”, “A recap of 2019 crypto scams” and etc. and skip it.

But you probably don’t know how often he and his Cointelligence calls somebody a scammer and you don’t realize how they earn money on their shady tactics.

‘Scam hunter’ slander machine

The scale and the amount of ‘scam calling’ by Cointelligence can impress you. In some cases, almost all participants of the entire cryptocurrency market segment are detected as scammers by Cointelligence. For example, they called scammer almost all top ICO/IEO ratings and listings, including ICObench, ICO Bazaar, and ICOholder.

They attacked dozen of crypto exchanges, including HitBTC, Latoken, BiteBTC, Dobitrade.

Top cryptocurrency rating CoinMarketCap is a scam project, according to Cointelligence (https://www.linkedin.com/posts/onyavin_another-example-of-coinmarketcap-enabling-activity-6571753751546253313-4wAT/).

They also slandered CoinTelegraph (https://www.cointelligence.com/content/karatbars-ponzi-scheme-cointelegraph/), one of the world’s top blockchain media, despite the fact that they had partnered with them and bought press-release placement (https://cointelegraph.com/press-releases/what-does-it-take-to-create-a-good-ico-rating).

Besides CoinTelegraph, such famous business media as CNBC (https://twitter.com/on_yavin/status/1043406048961462272) and Reuters (https://www.cointelligence.com/content/venture-capital-hub-reuters-scam/) was also criticized by On Yavin or Cointelligence. Recently On attacked even one of the committee members of the U.S. Federal Reserve (https://www.linkedin.com/posts/onyavin_bitcoin-and-cryptocurrency-are-like-a-giant-activity-6634405713542295552-M5a7).

There are lots of victims of Cointelligence and its CEO and as a rule, their claims are baseless and they have no proofs.

For example, in the past year HitBTC, a Top-30 cryptocurrency exchange by Coinmarketcap and Coingecko was forced to prove that they are not insolvent after Cointelligence reported (https://beincrypto.com/hitbtc-likely-insolvent-new-report/), that the exchange has only $3 mln. in its BTC and ETH wallets. On Twitter On Yavin even called the exchange to show publicly the data of all of its employees: https://twitter.com/Cointelligence/status/1094966949493248000
Pay to On Yavin or you are the scammer
You’ll be surprised, but despite On Yavin actively calling itself ‘scam hunter’, if you sponsor him, you would avoid such attacks.

Usually, he starts from requests for sponsorship or some services and if you decline and not pay, it could be followed with an attack. Posts titled “{your company} is a scam” or something like this will start popup in your community and they chaise the team.

This starts to demotivate some team members and the project leaders start to think, that paying for sponsorship to Cointelligence was really a good option. Sometimes such cases become public. In February a person with the nickname Dave posted an article with the details on how the startup he was working at was blackmailed by Cointelligence. He provided the print-screen of the Cointelligence offer of promotional services, that was made before the attacks began. See here: https://steemit.com/scam/@stoponyavin/6etine-stop-paying-scammer-on-yavin-stop-cointelligence-blackmailing-business

Recently one of the Bitcointalk users (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5230950.msg53977521#msg53977521) also shed the light on how it’s risky to refuse to pay Cointelligence for sponsorship. The portal offered the user to buy a sponsorship package and he asked should he do it his marketing agency. And the response of the unnamed agency was this, quote:

“Are you crazy? You must get listed here and never list on his main competitor like ICO Bench. Do you want big scandals from nothing? You do not, but On Yavin wants..”

Such projects like PumaPay and Electroneum seem to be in the same position. If, for example, PumaPay would not pay, they would likely be accused of troubles (https://www.publish0x.com/my-airdrops-club/warning-to-pumapay-and-bitcoin-users-xgprej) with withdrawals or other regular tech glitches that happen with any growing start-up. But they bought the protection and now you can see them on the Cointelligence main page in the sponsors section.

That looks like a good offer to pay a few satoshi to former SEO freelancers (On Yavin) to avoid been dirty. Otherwise, if the publication on Cointelligence will not harm much the project at the beginning, after 3 months their SEO optimized article will be in the top Google search results connected to the victim’s brand.

However, if you pay to blackmailer this is like to foul our common nest and make damage to cryptocurrency and blockchain market ecosystem. By sponsoring Cointelligence you sponsor scaling of defamation scheme and become a partner in crime against all of us.

Why Cointelligence slander people & start-ups?

Making a profit on blackmailing is not the only motive of On Yavin and his Cointelligence team.

When you call someone a scammer and put it in an article title, no matter you have no proof or evidence of wrongdoing, you attract attention and traffic to your website or your social media pages.

As it was well-said by Data & Society Research Institute study, “web journalists often claim that “sex, scandals, and celebrities” are the best recipe for attracting readers and “clicks.” Study resource here: https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/232f/84f88a8bb88f1977f77208114ffb5aa07be8.pdf

In the case of On Yavin, to drive traffic to cointelligence.com they prefer scandals via defamation practices.

The strategy is to find a victim, make the article on Cointelligence with calling the victim a scam, and by using Cointelligence and On Yavin’s sources, slander and troll the victim.

He even educate “influencers” to attack conference, which does not invite him to speak (https://twitter.com/roxanasoi/status/1183053781182877697), or projects that cancel paying for silence, with the help of, let’s call it, hate tweets of ‘Academy of blackmailers’ (that’s how their new product “Cointelligence Academy”, should really be named).

Unfortunately, openly coordinated hate tweet attack is making a new norm in social bullying and blackmailing. Just check out the tweet, made by Roxana Nasoi, frequent promoter of On Yavin posts: https://twitter.com/roxanasoi/status/1151539957632290818 (she could be found on the main page of Cointelligence in the testimonials section).

After driving traffic to the Cointelligence website On Yavin is monetizing it by selling banner ads and promotional services for ICOs and IEOs. The last one costs $100, according to their official pricing here - https://www.cointelligence.com/content/publish-ico/.

We don’t know how it works now but it seems like earlier by paying to Cointelligence administration, ICO startups could get better ratings and promote themself as a low-risk investment (see this: https://twitter.com/RaspberryNiall/status/1190219237358522368).

For example, as it was well-noticed by one of crypto community activists (print screen above), Cointelligence gave Fiduxa top score. But as of now, the star-up is closed and its website fiduxa.com doesn’t work (you can find it at ICOs/STOs Cointelligence rating page here: https://www.cointelligence.com/content/ico_list/)

When Cointelligence and On Yavin will be stopped?

Having said all the above, you may wonder, why Cointelligence and On Yavin are not sued by its victims? But who knows? Probably there are some lawsuits.

At least, – and this is something very positive, – the crypto community starting to realize the real motivation of On Yavin and that calling someone a scammer could be just a good strategy to hide own scammy practices. Here is one of community representative that started to realize who is On Yavin: https://twitter.com/innov8tor3/status/1209392263727591424

We already see, that:

1. Organizers of blockchain conferences start to cancel On Yavin as a speaker. The last case was with CC Forum, and of course On Yavin as a reaction started to blame everyone including all speakers engaged in the event (https://www.cointelligence.com/content/i-was-disinvited-from-cc-forum/)

2. Admired and influential people in the crypto and blockchain started to block On Yavin in social media. The last case was with blocking him in LinkedIn by Dr. Mihaela Ulieru, president of IMPACT Institute for the Digital Economy, advisor and consultant of World Economic Forum (WEF) - see here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/onyavin_i-had-a-lot-of-respect-for-dr-mihaela-ulieru-activity-6629308528827994113-LNwC

And this is definitely a good trend!

The more people will call Cointelligence and On Yavin is a scam, stop talking to him and inviting to the conferences, the closer will be the moment of truth when the crypto community will realize who the ‘scam hunter’ really is.

Stop to sponsor On Yavin slander scheme! Get him out of conferences! File lawsuits if he starts asking to pay for his silence and never shake his dirty hand!

P.S. If you do have additional information regarding Cointelligence and On Yavin wrongdoings, scammy practices, etc. please write to us at cointelligencescam@gmail.com

Please share this article with your friends and discuss it in the crypto community chats you’re involved in!

SEC complain against Cointelligence and On Yavin by Digital Transparency

We have recently published the summary of some of the posts highlighting the scope of the slander mafia business of On Yavin (called “Cointelligence”) - see it here: https://stopcointelligence.wordpress.com/2020/03/12/cointelligence-on-yavin-scam/

There are complaints from startups, exchanges, journalists, advisors, ICO listings that On Yavin is building a slander mafia while pretending to be an investigative journalist. In fact, he weaponized blogging to damage competitors, blackmail startups, attract traffic via scandals and protect their gang members from scammed victims.

The community is starting to realize who On Yavin really is (influencers blocked him in social media, event organizers cancel his speaker slot) and victims started to raise their voice.

Today is a big news: we received a letter from the organization called “Digital Transparency” who is conducting a class-action lawsuit to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against Cointelligence and On Yavin. This is definitely great news for all the victims of On Yavin’s blackmailing practices! Here is the full text:

___

To whom it may concern:

Digital Transparency Group is looking for evidence of the U.S. Security Act violations and other fraud committed by Cointelligence and it’s founder On Yavin for complaint against the defendants under the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) Whistleblower Program.

Cointelligence is the largest operating violator of Section 17(b), Section 20(b) of the U.S. Securities Act of 1933 with approximately 861 inactive and 332 active unregistered security offerings promoted to the U.S. unaccredited investors.

Cointelligence stated on each unregistered security advertisement page that they provide “Due Diligence and Advisory Services” and charged fees for issuing investment advice and risk ratings acting as an unregistered securities broker.

Cointelligence stated on their website “We charge a fee for all listings” and thus presumably charged at least 276 entities a fee to rate, produce and publish research reports regarding ICO projects on the website, and to publicize the reports and ratings via social media channels.

Cointelligence assigned medium or low “Risk score” to approximately 276 offerings of unregistered digital securities issued by the U.S. and non U.S. based companies. The risk score is explained by defendants as “an indicator of the probability that the project will or will not be realized”. 251 (out of 276 projects rated medium or low risk) have their websites abandoned as of today, at least 8 were charged by SEC and 32 are facing lawsuits.

Cointelligence violated Section 17(b) of the Securities Act by touting ICOs that involved the offer and sale of securities, through both its own website and its social media accounts, without disclosing that it received compensation from an issuer for doing so, or the amount thereof. The defendants misled unaccredited investors that they “never accept payment to update ratings” while inviting to contact them “For sponsored listing & advertising.”

Cointelligence derived a significant portion of web traffic to its website from the United States, published all of its content in English with figures quoted in U.S. Dollars, hosted and sent employees to attend conferences in the United States, and implemented no measures to block or otherwise deter United States persons from accessing and viewing its website or social media accounts. The promoted sale of unregistered securities included the U.S. based blockchain pornography platform VogoV. Cointelligence and On Yavin charged fees from VogoV to promote OGO token offering on https://www.cointelligence.com/content/ico_list/vogov/ to the U.S. unaccredited investors as a Medium risk investment opportunity with high integrity, team and product score.

Source: https://www.cointelligence.com/content/ico_list/vogov/

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charged for similar fraud ICO Box and ICO Rating with approximately $16 million in penalties. It will be appropriate and in the public interest to impose regulatory sanctions against Cointelligence and obtain a court judgment ordering Cointelligence to disgorge an amount equal to the funds and benefits they obtained illegally, as a result of the violations alleged, plus prejudgment interest thereon.

The Complaint will be filed on March 15, 2020 under the SEC Whistleblower Program to request investigation of Cointelligence and On Yavin unlawful acts and practices. Furthermore, we will request SEC to permanently restrain them from engaging in any non-compliant activities, under Section 17(b) and 20(b) of the Securities Act of 1933 and Section 21(d) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, and immediately issue a cease and desist order to restrict Cointelligence from committing or causing any violations of Section 5 of the Exchange Act, if regulatory non-compliance is confirmed.

It is your civil duty to report any known cases of Cointelligence and On Yavin violations of Securities Regulations or other fraud. Please write to digital.transparency@protonmail.com before March 14, 2020.You are welcome to share this request in order to collect evidence of fraud conducted by the defendants.

COMPLAINT against COINTELLIGENCE

We are filing this Complaint against COINTELLIGENCE and it’s founder On Yavin under the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) Whistleblower Program and requesting investigation of COINTELLIGENCE potentially unlawful acts and practices. Furthermore, we are requesting SEC to permanently restrain COINTELLIGENCE from engaging in any non-compliant activities, including violations of Section 17(b) of the Securities Act by publishing, giving publicity to, or circulating notices or communications that describe securities in exchange for compensation received, directly or indirectly, from issuers, underwriters, or dealers, as well as activities under Section 17(b), Section 20(b) of the Securities Act of 1933 (“Securities Act”). Finally, we deem it appropriate and in the public interest to impose regulatory sanctions against COINTELLIGENCE and obtain a court judgement ordering COINTELLIGENCE to disgorge an amount equal to the funds and benefits it obtained illegally, as a result of the violations alleged, plus prejudgment interest thereon.

COINTELLIGENCE a) provides analysis of securities and investment advice and b) is engaged in marketing activities of securities and c) promote platforms selling securities to US persons and d) provide misleading marketing information (including Low and Medium risk score for investment in an unregistered security).

COINTELLIGENCE’s research reports, ratings, and social-media postings publicized offerings of blockchain-based digital assets, including “tokens” or “coins” that were investment contracts, which are securities pursuant to Section 2(a)(1) of the Securities Act. 4. COINTELLIGENCE charged entities a fee to rate, and produce and publish research reports regarding ICO projects on the http://www.cointelligence.com website, and to publicize the reports and ratings via social media channels. During the relevant period, COINTELLIGENCE was paid, directly or indirectly, by certain issuers whose ICO projects it rated and publicized. However, COINTELLIGENCE did not disclose its receipt of this compensation. Violations 5. Section 17(b) of the Securities Act makes it unlawful for any person, by the use of any means or instruments of interstate commerce or by the use of the mails, to: publish, give publicity to, or circulate any notice, circular, advertisement, newspaper, article, letter, investment service, or communication which, though not purporting to offer a security for sale, describes such security for a consideration received or to be received, directly or indirectly, from an issuer, underwriter, or dealer, without fully disclosing the receipt, whether past or 3 prospective, of such consideration and the amount thereof. As a result of the conduct described above, COINTELLIGENCE violated Section 17(b) of the Securities Act by touting ICOs that involved the offer and sale of securities, through both its own website and its social media accounts.

COINTELLIGENCE is the largest operating violator of Section 17(b), Section 20(b) of the U.S. Securities Act of 1933 with approximately 861 inactive and 332 active unregistered security offerings promoted to the U.S. unaccredited investors. Cointellingence and On Yavin declared themselves as investment advisors and charged fees for issuing investment advice and risk ratings acting as an unregistered securities broker. COINTELLIGENCE presumably charged at least 276 entities a fee to rate, produce and publish research reports regarding ICO projects on the website, and to publicize the reports and ratings via social media channels.

COINTELLIGENCE assigned medium or low “Risk score” to approximately 276 offerings of unregistered digital securities from the U.S. and non U.S. based companies. The risk score is explained as “an indicator of the probability that the project will or will not be realized”. 251 (out of 276 projects rated medium or low risk) have their websites abandoned as of today, at least 8 were charged by SEC and 32 are facing lawsuits. The risk score is explained as “an indicator of the probability that the project will or will not be realized”.

The SEC’s recent enforcement action against ICO Box and its founder Nikolay Evdokimov as well as ICO Rating platforms engaged in similar activities, underscores the Division of Trading and Markets’ ongoing concerns about the failure of platforms that provide investment advice or marketing of securities to comply with securities regulation. The federal regulatory framework governing securities markets is designed to protect investors and prevent against fraudulent sale of securities.

If COINTELLIGENCE does not meet regulatory requirements, we are requesting SEC to permanently restrain COINTELLIGENCE from engaging in the unlawful acts, practices, and courses of business, under Section 20(b) of the Securities Act and Section 21(d) of the Exchange Act. If COINTELLIGENCE does not meet regulatory requirements, we are requesting SEC to obtain a court judgment ordering COINTELLIGENCE to disgorge an amount equal to the funds and benefits it obtained illegally, or to which it is otherwise not entitled, as a result of the violations alleged, plus prejudgment interest thereon.

Finally, if COINTELLIGENCE does not meet regulatory requirements, we deem it appropriate and in the public interest to impose sanctions against COINTELLIGENCE and request an immediate cease and desist order to be issued to restrict COINTELLIGENCE from committing or causing any violations and any future violations of Section 5 of the Exchange Act.

Please share this and discuss it in the crypto community chats to help blackmailed victims to raise their voice and make things transparent and just!

Stop paying scammer On Yavin! Stop Cointelligence blackmailing business!

Hi everyone! My nickname is Dave and this is not my real name, otherwise Cointelligence guys will sniff me out and slander me. Recently I worked in great startup that was forced to pay money to the guy called On Yavin and his weaselly Cointelligence team. I want this text to be reposted the maximum times possible so that shady scammers from Cointelligence could not steer it from the internet.

The story started couple of months ago when shitty Cointelligence reached out to one of our startup representatives with the sponsorship offer. Here is the screen from Telegram: https://telegra.ph/file/439169c083856cfa2326b.jpg

They offered to become sponsors of their Cointelligence Academy, the new shitty produt they recently launched to steal money from peoples pockets by providing information about blockchain and crypto that, I presume, anyone could google on their own!

We refused to pay to the scamers, because we even couldn’t find their website http://cointelligence.com/ on SimilarWeb (means very low traffic).

After we have refused to their shitty sponsorship offer - attacks on our project started...

Someone in our projects Telegram chat sent the link to the tweet made by one man (I can’t show you print screen because the tweet was later deleted and I’ll tell you why). He tweeted that our project is the scam and all the money of our investors was spend by the project's founders on their personal staff. Of course it was f***ing bullshit, but still it was broadly discussed by our community. As we later find out, this man was one of the closest allies of scammer On Yavin.

Later Cointelligence shitty team posted review of our project with so much bullshit that it wasn't close to the truth at least 1%! And this harmed us a lot more than the first shitty tweet.

Despite there was zero proof of their words, troubles realy have emerged. As my ex-doods from the work said, the big investors of our project have seen shity review, because On Yavin have posted it on his LinkedIn page and somehow promoted in a way that there were lots of comments.

The community was pissed off by this Cointelligence scam. I don’t know how that scammers did it, but some of our potential clients and sponsors have stopped negotiations with us. Some of our employers were devasted by this. As a result, several developers and community managers staff have left the company (I still can’t believe how one piece-of-shit-article with zero proofs could be powerful and slammer the reputation of great projects).

It was obvious that there was a direct connection with the scammy Cointelligence sponsorship proposal and all the dirt that came out less than a week after we have refused to pay.

Almost 1 month left since the first Cointelligence attacks started on us. At that moment our team was already devastated. Our executives said that the best decision is to vote whether we’ll agree to pay to blackmailer On Yavin or will file the lawsuit for blackmailing.

The majority of the team voted to pay.

The final price for Cointelligence silence was 1 BTC.

After we have transferred the money to their wallet, bullying was stopped and some of defamation regarding our project in social media was luckily deleted. It was a time when the spell of bad luck was finished to us… but not for me. Something was broken in me because of this decision.

And I quit.

The reason I’m not anymore in the company I used to love is that f***ing vote!!!

I’ll never stay in the company that is doing such wrong and immoral decision! How they cant understand that by paying moran On Yavin they are sponsoring immoral blackmailing practices that will harm dozens of other good projects?!

This money will be used to scale blackmailing scheme designed to spread fake scandals to earn on destroying trust in the community, reputation, careers and life of everybody in the crypto industry!!

We must stop payments to blackmailer and file lawsuits against them!

And we definitely have to stop this shitty On Yavin and his scammy Cointelligence team and stop paying for silence through sponsorship!

I know there are dozens of projects that were in the same position as we were (example: https://twitter.com/TheTaylorRichey/status/1225123722819973120) and we should unite and file lawsuits against On Yavin!!

Let’s unite our efforts!

If you are a victim of On Yavin write to stopcointelligence@protonmail.com

In fact, the company behaves like a complete layman.

For them, it is normal practice, for example, to steal funds from your account that have not been used for a long time (yep, i hve proofs).

Take a look at the quality of their site. Look at the conversation level of the kid from the live stream.

Look at the level of communication with the client - for example, in a telegram, absolutely any complaints are deleted.

Well, and so on.

What is CBI100 in your MVP?
The CBI100 is cap weighted, and the CIX100 is based on neural network predictions.

So Cyx is way more accurate and can predict more?
