I just keep my fiat in Cyprus banks. They will be forever safe there.

I agree with you, me either once I got my bitcoins from my earnings, I'm exchanging it to fiat already.
And ready to transfer it to my bank for safety of my money.

LOL, confiscation, deposit tax or a bail in is what they call it when a government takes depositors money to plug a banks financial holes, just as was done in Cyprus recently...

I guess Elwar forgot /s tag, good to catch banking trools though.

Not sure why Cyprus banks are any more relevant than Gatecoin getting haxx0rd or BBQ coin becoming worthless.
Sure, Cyprus banks are fiat-related, just like the examples I gave are crypto-related. At least Cyprus banks didn't run away with all your coins, like the totally awesome Bitcoin Bank in Cyprus did Smiley

Re: The AsicBoost 'dilemma'

Once the patent got approved, should they decided to sell the rights to use the tech to ASIC companies, these companies will simply pass the costs to their end-users, us miners and the huge mining organizations. In the end everyone gets to upgrade, and the situation would stay the same as it is now.
In the end if everyone pays money to acquire that 'improvement', the it is pointless as nobody gains the advantage anyways (everyone's hashrate increases by 20%). In other words, this is pointless as it gets.

Err...You mean like everyone upgrading from CPUs to GPUs to FPGAs to ASICs to better_ASICs? That sort of pointlessness?

Well that'd be obvious since more than half of the bitcoin holders are expecting for an increase in value.

Sure, and if the price does increase they'll hold, because look how the price is going up.
And if the price doesn't increase, they'll also hold, because it takes a while for the price to adjust after the halvening.
And if the price tanks, they'll also hold, and buy more, because ideal buying opportunity, the price is clearly down-manipulated by Wall st. and bankster j00z, who'll eventually run out of coin and then CCMF! Bang, zoom! To the moon, Alice!
I remain cautiously optimistic.

I'm looking at those big letters DESTROYED..
I don't think this is th case for real, and i dont know why those nonsense topics are allowed at the first place?

"We have previously communicated the fact that most clients’ crypto-asset funds are stored in multi-signature cold wallets. However, the malicious external party involved in this breach, managed to alter our system so that ETH and BTC deposit transfers by-passed the multi-sig cold storage and went directly to the hot wallet during the breach period. This means that losses of ETH funds exceed the 5% limit that we imposed on our hot wallets.
Loss of Funds

In total, the hot wallet breach resulted in the loss of ETH 185,000 and BTC 250, which is equivalent to USD 2 million. Shocked This represents 15% of total crypto-asset deposits held by Gatecoin." -- https://gatecoin.com/

Re: My computer have just been hacked for BITCOIN ransom!
by

Have heard that kind of hacking software before, which encrypted all files on my computer, and when my brother have been using the computer (or course carelessly), it is hacked and they demand a 1.2BTC ransom... These are just one more bad news of BTC, and even make my family members have even worse image on bitcoin... And we decided not to pay the coins to the hacker as all important files have been backed up.

Whay do you think?

i am sorry to hear about this.

but thid has nothing to do with bitcoin. it is like any other ransom. it could have been done using fiat just the same way and that wouldn't have changed anybodys view on fiat.

Right. And a mugger could have used a pillow to smother you, but, for reasons that remain a mystery to me, he chose a Glock.

Given that a mugger is someone who attacks and robs a person in a public place, I'd say he was probably hard pressed to find a pillow and you lying conveniently on a surface conducive to smothering.

You mean a Glock is a more practical choice? Not sure I understand what you're trying to say.

That's too bad because it was sarcastically humorous much like your post yet more so.  It's okay, others will understand.

Nah, that's just stupid. Of course mugging someone with a pillow is much more likely to result in utter failure, just as asking for cash will result in cops, not the desired bag of filthy gubermint scrip, appearing at your door. Duh.

no, he will use a piano wire. it is more effective!
This one clearly preferred bitcoin a Glock. Neckbeards aren't that good with plano wire, requires actual physical prowess.

I think that if the hacker had asked for cash, even make your family have a worse image on cash!  Then no one work because fear on cash and they all starve because have no cash to buy nothing.

Cash is less practical than assaulting your mugging victim with a pillow, that's the whole point.
How do you think the cash ransom demand would look?
"Please deliver a brown paper bag full of banknotes to apt. 2, 1313 Mockingbird Ln, Cashville, OH?"

A Bitcoin bank? I think that won't be possible. Even tho if any bank would do that, I'm pretty sure there will only a few people that'll interested by it.

You forget that people are greedy.
If a bank offers me interest at very low risk, I would consider giving them custody over my coins.

Lightning Network is the pipeline with a first functional version for this year. Then you won't have to wait a few minutes if you are going to buy something with Bitcoin of bigger value.

You will, otoh, have to pre-fund all your purchases, as you would by buying a gift card. In other words, if you want to use Lightning to buy your Starbucks coffee, you will first have to "create a payment channel" and fund it with enough bitcoin to cover all your future purchases.
Just like buying a gift card.

I just wondering if Bitcoin can also have representative form like the gold certificate. This representative form will be a paper that contain sealed private key. This paper will have face value that represent the Bitcoin amount it has. We could call this "Bitcoin-backed money". Futhermore we can use this Bitcoin-backed money just like we use paper money (banknotes) everyday.

Like these?

I know, why don't we make Bit COINS? Huh? Best Idea ever or what?

The title is misleading, as the quoted post was about the hypothesis that Bitcoin's decentralization is being destroyed.

Bitcoin that's not decentralized is not Bitcoin but a berry berry inefficient bank. Stop with the pedantry.

Banks should really be scared of bank runs, if everyone took out their money at the same time. It would expose how they run on unsustainable fractional reserves and exorbitant fees. They are "good" at lending out that isn't even there.

Won't banksters just print more of their filthy fiat out of thin air? Ain't that what they do?

With central banks and fiat currencies, yes.

That's what coinpr0n is talking about, conventional banks.  because there are no Bitcoin banks left to worry about bank runs. They all ran away themselves (Bitcoin Savings & Trust, Bitfunder, NoeBee, etc., etc.)

Bitcoin has no central bank that can issue more coins, so that particular problem isn't real.

Sorta. There are dev teams bidding for power. Recently the owner of this forum had some interesting ideas, like destroying coins that weren't his to destroy, because "old coins should be destroyed before they are stolen to prevent disastrous monetary inflation."
Sounds central bankish to me (other than the bit where he doesn't know what monetary inflation means, that is) Undecided

2. After the halvening, Bitcoin base money supply will continue to grow ("inflate"), just at a slower rate; will only be ~5%, instead of the ~10% we're seeing now.
