So, what's the Internet component for this solution?

We fit these units with a cellular modem, which is what we are currently mining on. For mining managed by Upstream, our service area has adequate cell coverage. If you purchase and wish to manage it yourself, you can easily integrate any internet package.

Hey all, I apologize for not updating this recently, we've been extremely busy launching this new company.

I've started a new thread here, now that we are commercializing this product:

HashGen - Mine Upstream
by
Upstream
on 24/01/2018, 17:20:56 UTC
Hi all,

We have built, field tested and are now ramping up to take orders / offer hosting for our new product, the HashGen. You can see more detail / brochures on this product here: www.upstreamdata.ca & make sure to follow us on twitter @UpstreamDataInc.

The HashGen is not just another miner-in-a-box, we offer a solution to solve a serious problem in the oil and gas industry. Wherever oil is produced, natural gas and methane is also produced as a byproduct (casing gas / solution gas / process release / etc). In many cases this methane cannot feasibly be brought to market because the cost and liability associated with pipelines or power infrastructure does not offer a ROI, not to mention the volumes of gas can fluctuate and decrease rapidly. In such cases the oil producer will either flare or vent the methane to atmosphere, i.e. waste the energy.

That's where Upstream Data comes in. We have designed the HashGen to be portable and plug and play. Each unit consists of both a power plant (natural gas genset) and hashing datacenter. We are currently building HashGens capable of 75 kW mining load and we can go as high as 110 kW with the right genset. We are also in the process of designing much larger, more power dense units.

We are not just selling this product to oil companies, we are planning to offer it to anybody under a managed-mining agreement. Whoever buys and owns the HashGen is eligible to be paid for all power generated for the life of the unit (building should last 20+ years, genset needs to be rebuilt every 4-5 years). Upstream will manage the HashGens for our customers for a fee, monitoring them 24/7 to ensure maximum up-time and moving them to new facilities as needed. We will also make sure they are maxed out with miners to maximize revenue to the owner. The unit is completely plug-and-play and just needs to be tied into any source of gas, the entire process takes less than 2 hours to disconnect from one site and reconnect to another (not including travel time).

Please see the website for information on how to get involved.

We had another topic going on this here (since locked), with some build pics linked:

*snip*

I am saying that it should still show the board unless it is really bad. I have 1 machine that has some chips out, but it still shows in the config screen. Do your bad boards not show on the config screen at all?

Yes I have boards that do not even show up on the miner status screen. For example it will say Chain 6, Chain 7 but no Chain 8

You only have 2 boards even showing up. Looks like the controller isn't even plugged in. Even with a bad board, it should still show up with all xxxxxxxxxxxx . Check the controller plug on the missing board.

 Lemme know more...

Scrap'

It was showing 3 boards mate, rebooting via logging in done nothing and still showed 3 boards, it ONLY went to 2 boards when i physically unplugged it ?

I have checked the ribbon cables between controller and board and is fine.

Also my other faulty miners only show 2 boards, they are the new type self adjusting fan speedd/frequency as well...So it is the norm for me.

I have also swapped pcie-e connections from good board and even new psu's.

NOT worth sending back as they are 11.5Th models and run at 9.6Th !!!

Just hate losing hash power when i have access to free leccy !

Cheers Mate

It is only showing 2 boards bro, something is going on with the controller I'm telling you. Try the ribbon cables 1 by 1 on each card till you find the bad cable or board. If you will notice when you add the 2 it shows together with the amount of each one, it will be full speed. 1 board is not showing at all.

Trust me I have over 20 s9'2 and they have different versions of firmware yet all of them show all 3 boards.

Scrap'

Are you sure about this? I have 30 antminers I just ordered, have maybe 4 or 5 bad boards that I'm prepping to send to Bitmainwarranty, and I've tried switching the cables and PCI-e's to no avail.

We also looked into a microturbine, but the costs (capital and maintenance) did not really compare to the genset I'm using.

I'll have a nice update soon, with more details on our source. I spent 14 hours today commissioning the unit and trouble shooting bugs in our programming. More of that tomorrow. Once I get her purring along I will update with some nice pics.

PS our power cost is $0 at the moment Shocked

How can I easily calculate how far we are to our expected % progress in finding a block? Is it based on one of the stats on CKpool.org/pool?

I doubt I'll ever discuss costs, but it isn't exactly rocket science to price something similar out yourselves. Also, since this is really a prototype I have a lot of optimization to do for the next one. I'd expect I could get costs down by at least 25%.

More important that capital cost is operating cost, that's my major concern. Gensets require maintenance and must be checked regularly etc. Mining doesn't work if operating costs are like $0.10 / kWh or greater, I'd be crushed when the bear market returns.

Yeah this particular genset is a 5.7L GM, pretty common for natural gas.

Cost is a secret Tongue

Very interesting project,I think I will watch him in the future.
And I wonder how people in 2017, still do not have Twitter , although it is possible this is old-school and on Facebook . Wish you success in your endeavor!
Screw Twitter, Facebook and other 'social media' schemes.
Never seen the point of 'instant and constant contact' for all the world to see. Their #1 function is to collect data that can then be sold to marketing agencies. What better way to con (many) people into exposing every waking moment of their lives than by having them think everybody in the world needs to know what they had for lunch and other mundane things like that.

That said, looks good! I take it the genset is by a capped off gas well?

Bitcoin twitter is a lot of fun, I don't use any other social media though (unless Reddit is considered social media), just Twitter bitcoin feeds. Get into it Tongue

You're close re the capped off gas well, more on that soon when I tie it in  Kiss
