That is true for the short term if you get a first batch one. Otherwise once ASICS are out the difficulty will kill your profits and you have a loud doorstopper. FPGA will be a different story as long as the Devs keep up with the algos

I spoke to the Dev of progpow and I love their approach. It's not about ASIC resistance but closing the loopholes that make ASICS faster and more efficient. The proposal was posted on the ETH GitHub and I strongly suspect that people were bought by ASIC manufacturers, just read the comments... It's sad. However they have a working algo and miner so anyone could fork and start using it. Unfortunately x16r is not exactly ASIC resistant either, there is a whole list of projected ASIC speed gains over GPUs and yes, we are screwed with the current algos. As much as I don't like ethash I gotta admit it was still the most ASIC resistant algo. (Only 2x gain on ASIC)

Don't do this Philip, you're my muse when it comes to mining what are you mining? I think GPU mining is far from dead however it is not exactly rosy. Chasing new coins and either dumping the shitcoins or holding the ones with some hope is still a way to go if you want a quick buck. My rigs are still making around $1k after elec in a month. They'll ROI soon anyways.

I've been worried about a lot things lately, ASICs, FPGAs but then I realised there is no point in worrying, most of the things are out of my control. I can still trade whatever I mine instead of just autoexchanging.

Well, these temperatures are averages. It will go up to 27C today. But more often than not, it rains so I was wondering whether wood would be the right choice, don't want it to rot within a few months especially with expensive equipment in there. On a different note, how would you secure it? It's probably a lot easier to break into a shed than my house.

I'm thinking about moving my rigs outside of the house, most likely into a shed. I'd be housing around 50 GPUs in there with a view to expand the farm.

The numbers they're posting are insane, 4x of a 1080ti. I know they are expensive but within months they could screw GPU mining over. ETA from the dev guy is 30th of May. The lead time on these Xilinx cards is 8 weeks.  I don't wanna blindly order one and ending up renting it out on amazon AWS to make at least some of my money back he doesn't deliver.

Maybe I was late to the party, I only remember the painful decline and people still believing in the coin...

I spent a bit of time on their discord channels. Yes, there is some drama going on or rather was going on. The main discord was disbanded due to one of the community leaders who used to help the project in the very beginning going rogue. He was the admin of that channel. They also attributed today's dump to him selling all his holdings. (His name is Kai, don't know him) There are two main channels, one with the devs and the other one with @enemy. (As far as i can see) I do not think this is any threat to the project as the devs are still there and very active. It's actually a really nice community with a very few idiots.

Brian, the author of nevermore even told us how he got screwed over by someone with his sgminer. Spent two weeks on it, sent it out for beta testing and someone submitted it as their own and got the 25k raven bounty instead of him. Low blow but he was a bit silly.

All in all I still have faith in the project, they do have a plan for ASIC resistance as well. I'll continue mining it.

I mean it makes perfect sense to waste hardware and electricity on fake coins. I did the same when I mined Signatum lol Come on guys, of course all the ASIC manufacturers always test their equipment on live networks to make coins and once they are not as profitable as they used to be they sell it to you (some people would call them suckers but I am more polite than that) who are hoping to ROI in 6 months which usually does not happen. They are not your friends, to them, you are just a dumping ground. (Unless you order 1000 of them, then they might consider you as a partner)

Their plan is to swap algos which is just as good as anything However sooner or later we will be seeing FPGAs or even ASICs where they can remotely update the firmware with new algos, remove algos, etc... So the cat and mouse game is on. I am happy with where this is heading!

Let's be realistic here. That crap he linked is a referral programme infested pyramid scheme. Invite your friends, they can make money as well!

Average hash rate of an intel i7-6800k is around 380hs. Put that into a whattomine calculator with 10cents electric and you are making -$0.38 per day! So in a week you can lose upwards of 2.6 dollars! Carry on mining in your browser and you can actually lose over $130 in a year!
