Is there any idea what epoch the current version of PM will work till or is there no cap I cant find any info on this. The reason i ask is just thinking ahead about forks of Eth that may be about to bear down upon us.

i like PM so yes many thanks for it, would be good to just say bye if thats the way it is.

Last post from me for while as dont appreciate my posts getting merged and deleted so just to thank PM and confirm now got 7 RX6800 XT running under ubuntu 20.04 with latest driver 21.40.1 and even gained a couple of extra hashes also like the labeling of GPU's good feature thanks for PM 5.9b. Note we are back to ROCM :-) but dont like the way AMD distribute this driver using package manager over a nice fat tarball download, I smell trouble ahead.

Hope you updating the first page also with the new download links , as i watching and fighting the Fake Github links now nearly a year !
I also report them on Github when its possible , it looks like a never ending story but i dont give up on that .
Fingers crossed that not anymore Users fall into the trap of the Fake Links that are mostly posted from Hacked Accounts.

The new beta version is ready. It is mostly a bugfix release, the more significant upgrades are coming next month. You can download PhoenixMiner 5.9b from here:

PhoenixMiner_5.9b_Windows.zip
PhoenixMiner_5.9b_Linux.tar.gz

To check the integrity of the downloaded file, please use the following hashes (you need the last file PhoenixMiner_NVRTC_Windows.zip only if you want to mine BCI with Nvdia cards under Windows):
Code:

The new features in this release are:

  • Show the GPU vendor name in the list of GPUs to make it easier to identify the GPUs
  • Added support for the latest AMD Linux drivers 21.40.1. There are some bugs in these drivers, particularly the clocks and voltages can't be set properly with older cards (RX4x0/RX5x0/Vega/RadeonVII)
  • Validated support for the latest AMD Windows drivers up to 21.11.2
  • Fixed issues with AMD RX6700XT cards with the latest AMD and Linux drivers
  • Fixed issues with AMD Vega and Radeon VII cards on latest Windows and Linux drivers
  • Fixed crash with very old Nvidia drivers (3xx.x)
  • Other fixes and small improvements

The updated list of known issues (driver incompatibilities, etc.) and workarounds:

  • AMD Linux driver 21.40.1 has a bug preventing proper setting of clocks and voltages on older cards (RX4x0/RX5x0/Vega/RadeonVII). Given that these drivers are also usually slower than the older drivers for these cards, we recommend using Linux drivers 20.30 for anything older than RX6000 series.
  • If you are using Linux drivers 21.40.1 with Radeon VII cards, you need to add the option -fpwm 1 in order to have proper fan control.
  • AMD Linux drivers 21.40.1 has finally removed the requirement of PCIe atomics but there are problems when you try to mix Polaris (RX4x0/5x0) cards and Vega or newer cards on the same rig.
  • Some Nvidia cards will report a lot of stale shares under Windows 11. Using the same driver version under Windows 10 resolves the issue.

For more robust integrity check, you can use our GPG public key, which was verifyed with ETH transaction from our main devfee account as explained here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2647654.msg56755869#msg56755869. Here are the signatures for the files in this release:

Superb RX6700 XT now running with optimised kernels under ubuntu with 21.30 thanks. Will play with 21.40.1 driver later looking to get multi gpus running under ubuntu 20.04 LTS with latest drivers that would be most welcome.

Hi all,
Anyone managed to run RX6700 XT in ubuntu? Which ubuntu version, kernel, and amd driver? Do you enable legacy or rocr or both when installing amd driver? So far I have ubuntu 20.4.03 with its latest kernel, I think 5.11 and latest amd driver with both legacy and rocr enabled, but they don't work.
regards

Right now i have a RX6700 XT running ok on a test rig under PM 5.8c, Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS 5.11.0-37-generic with AMDGPUPRO 21.30 which is OpenCL driver version: 21.30-1290604-rocr. Only clkernel 0 works tho and it isnt ideal due to high stale shares and multiGPU may not work due to limitations imposed by AMD in ROCR ( Happy to be wrong,  theory is nvidiea nobbled mining rigs with LHR and AMD did single GPU restriction in Rocr instead)

Main rig currently has 7 x RX6800XT under Manjero but with older driver made using PKGBUILD workaround (for multi gpu support) all singing sweet with clkernel 1 under PM 5.8c

Info on Manjero setup can be found on link below. (take note i dont get a lot of time to play with this so this solution might have been improved since)

Not sure what i would do with myself if mining with gpu's wasnt a thing anymore. Buy and do if thats how your heart sings tho upon reflection i could probably have made more just buying coin n hodling for years but then i would have to pay to heat my home rather than heat it using rigs and would be a bit bored with that.

I switched power on and the noise was louder than i anticipated(is this normal, it was like X10 the sound of a normal PC, which i can hear through walls in my house.)

This is the part that worries me. I presume the noise is from the PSU fan suggesting it's getting too hot. It could be
a short on the mobo causing it to draw more power, unless the noise is a problem with the PSU itself.

Given it's a ready built rig it could be anything. It's probably best to return it if you can.

I would agree on returning it rather than stress over aging second hand kit with little support available for it.

Nice info in thread thanks.

In 2019 at bottom of market i learned about RVII and scooped up 4 of them for my 3rd Gen rig at a cost of $4.5K it broke me as used all my free money to do it. I used the psu, mobo etc from the now dismantled 2nd Gen rig.

I ran them RVII for a year at a loss with Eth dropping as low as $100 if memory serves then we pumped and my investment risk turned around massively and in total i ran those RVii for two years earning round 20 eth, 10 of which i still hodl. There is profit for the brave but dont spend anything you cant afford to lose or at least wait to see fruit of.

on 29/10/2021, 17:09:01 UTC
Okay, so, I was going to build a rig, but as all of you know easier said than done as the cards are always sold out or over MSRP. I know there are some hardware watching services to catch cards when they’re in stock and I’m going to check those out once I figure out the names of them again. Without getting too much into detail it’s really critical that I pull this off. I understand that nothing is certain, but mining seems the most certain of the different avenues I’ve considered. I’m handy with IT and other tools. Having some passive income coming in is going to literally transform my life for the better as it will allow me to focus on getting my OSCP certification among other even more important personal things. Any solid advice put here is going to directly translate to transforming my life for the better. I’ve done a lot of reading, but nothing makes up for the experience of people in the trenches of the field.

I think GPU is still the most efficient, but I could very well be wrong. I’m open to any suggestions of smart uses for the budget that involve mining. I’d maybe be interested in hearing other ideas crypto-related passive-income streams, but mining is what I’ve been reading about most.

Thank you!!

Consider if you could earn more by buying coin to hodl over the space of the year or so your looking at for ROI at present prices and coin valus go up as aell as down we have all mined at a loss for a time during bear season...

If i was going to spend $5k on a new rig today then i would secure the GPU's first and then get what PSU and MOBO to suit it possibly with future expansion in mind if i have budget left after getting GPU's. Today you might get 3 x RX6800XT new for this budget including warranty giving 64Mh each so ~192Mh and a single 1000W psu and basic mobo will support that no probs. Add an extra PSU and you can upgrade later if mobo supports more GPU.

Theres very little Nvidea stock about so it would be second hand for that which would be brave as no warranty.

I used a splitter because with an M2 NVME installed it cut down available lanes and solved the problem quickly avoiding any more down time but the M2 NVME makes compiling drivers so quick i can do in an hour what used to take all day when testing driver versions....

It makes sense to use NVME for a test rig but a production rig would be better to use SATA to free up
PCIe lanes for GPUs.

Mobos with more features that aren't needed for mining like Bluetooth, high speed USB, extra SATA ports, Wifi, NVME, etc,
will have fewer lanes avalable for the PCIe slots.

In the case of a budget CPU like Celeron or Pentium, it may not supply enough PCIe lanes to serve all the slots
at once.

Check the mobo and CPU specs before buying.

I dont disagree with this at all other than to say my own situation is not a production environment so im going to solve my headache with a splitter and put my feet up for a bit to restore blood pressure to nominal values. At this time with so many changes and developments going on so fast in the pc world i had to just dive in to learn as reading up on it all wasnt working any more possibly as my own organic embedded processor is in need of a serious defrag and purge of all technology data files less than 32 bit in width. purism such as dont use a splitter to solve your problem is for the yoof....

Re splitter fires...

I dunno its like there is a miner maximalist sect that wont tolerate the use of splitters as its none cannon blasphemy such is the crusade among the sect for HW purity and to eliminate redundancy from the miner maximalist orthodoxy lol. Maybe miner jesus said "Thou shall not use a splitter needlessly especially to mask ignorance or thy shall be cast down unto the flames of a burning rig". Grin
