Re: Giveaway Thread for "MasterCoins" - the new protocol layer built on bitcoin

So I guess I might as well post these here:

I previously designed a logo for Mastercoin figuring it needed one:

And now I created a vector package people can download and use:

(click the image to download the vector file)

I'm offering these images in vector format to Public Domain

And to top it all off, I made an animated intro video using the new logo:
https://vimeo.com/73592269

Tips of any sort are greatly appreciated! My address: 13x2dka6tVhjsNNNomGJjUPi2iJQCb67bw
Depending on what you guys think, I can probably help out more with explanation videos/ branding.

great job!

the logo does not show up via a google image search yet.

any chance you can create an avatar for use on this forum?

Total Received    4,727.31317033 BTC
Final Balance    4,727.31317033 BTC

And someone has already sent 11 BTCs after the deadline, so the final number could be:

In case you're using blockchain.info, here's a rough sketch of how it's done best:

- Receive money
- new address - call it "Mastercoin"
- Copy address
- Send money --> quick send - to this address  - send X + 0.005
- Send money --> Custom
- From: Mastercoin
- To: 1EXoDusjGwvnjZUyKkxZ4UHEf77z6A5S4P
- BTC: X
- Miner fee: 0.005
- Review payment
- Check on 1exodus

Does the minor fee have to be 0.005? I added only 0.001 (which happened automatically). Transaction was confirmed at 1ExoDus... I'm not trying to be cheap just wondering why you selected 0.005. I used my "MasterCoin" address from a MultiBit wallet. Thanks.

So I sent .42 btc... Now what?

same here.  was there supposed to be something coming back?

Nope - you have created MasterCoins via your transaction, and you own them until you publish a message sending them to somebody else.

Can someone please explain how this works further or point me to an explanation of how this works? The MasterCoins were created when I sent some BTCs to the ExodusAddress. Then my claim to the MSCs is in the transaction record? I own them until I publish a message sending them somewhere? I guess I can send them to myself at another address? How do you do this? What indicates you have them? I will consider investing a bit more but only if I can understand this better.

The transaction of you sending coins to the exodus is everyone's proof you own the mastercoins. Hence the bitcoin blockchain contains the transaction record. You own them until you publish a message on the blockchain by means of sending specific transactions to 3 different bitcoin addresses, of which 2 are real and one is a fake of which contains information about the transferring of the mastercoins. At this moment transactions have to be built manually but there will be software soon that will streamline this for you.

Eventually you will have a mastercoin client which shows you your coins and you'll be able to send them freely to any bitcoin address. Along with many other things you can do with them like buy mastercoin based "coins" that represent the value of gold or USD or bottlecaps.

You may want to watch the presentation JR did for bitangels. It explains transferring mastercoins.
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B2R_eSvAkuXSWXNmU2dneFlLTkk&usp=sharing

Thank you! I just watched that and read your post which is helpful.

Another question: if there are say 300,000 to 500,000 mastercoins created depending on initial investment (that's in the ball park I think) and mastercoins are divisible to 8 decimal points, is there any concern that that number will not be optimal if the concept really takes off?

Related point: for mastercoin to be valuable it needs to capture market through widespread acceptance, but what is stopping others from copying the idea and implementing it for particular purposes.

Could this type of project damage bitcoin if many try to implement similar protocols on top of bitcoin? thanks

Another newbie question: how or when do I receive my MSCs now that I've sent some bitcoin to the exodus address? Thanks.

You now have them. Congrats.

How do I know I have them? I just see - # of bitcoins send deducted. The transaction was confirmed. No FAQ?

Does it make much sense for little fish to trade when this market is obviously the plaything of a few well to do chaps?

That's why TA is more or less useless. Market volume and liquidity is not nearly large enough to make it meaningful.

I have a few (admittedly basic) questions regarding investing a small sum in this venture. If there is a FAQ for a newbie, please link.

I would appreciate if anyone can advise on the following:

1) You can not invest using a web-based wallet, but I assume investing from my own Bitcoin QT wallet installed on my PC would work, correct?

2) You need to use a new (separate) address for sending bitcoins to the exodus address, correct?

3) You will receive 100 mastercoins for each bitcoin sent? How do your receive these? How is this verified? Can you receive mastercoins in your bitcoin wallet? When do you receive them?

4) There will be no new mastercoins created after the investment deadline of end of August? How does the total invested amount = optimal # of mastercoins needed to make system work? The method of creating mastercoins creates an arbitrary #.

Thank you.

No FAQ yet (we should definitely make one).

1) bitcoin-qt and also blockchain.info are safe - any wallet where you control the privaet keys is ok.
2) You don't have to use a new address, it might make your internal accounting easier.
3) You will receive a bit more than 100 MSC per BTC sent. There is a 10% "early adopter bonus" per week of early sending before the deadline (continuous). You receive your MSC the instant you send them ... you can try the greasmonkey script (see above in the thread) to verify you do have them.
4) Correct, up to a small amount created at the Exodus address (10% of its content I believe). There is no "optimal number of MSC" ... just like the total number of BTC, the total number of MSC doesn't matter in itself - they're divisible enough.

Thank you.

So as of today there would be 2,157 x 100 (plus bonus) = 215,700 plus 10% weekly bonus MSC

You receive the coins instantly but need a script to verify? This I don't understand. The MSCs are sent to the same wallet that you sent the bitcoins from? The wallet made for bitcoin can receive mastercoins?

Edit: I found the "MasterCoin Complete Speculation" document which will hopefully answer some of my questions...

$180 within 12 hrs. it is certain.

fuck you bears.

*edit*

bam, just hit $120. we on unstoppable tear

a break of $115 (if sustained) is truly bullish (wether driven by gox crap situation or not doesn't matter)

actually it does, it matters a lot...

No, still bullish regardless

How is a bank run bullish?

During the last 3 days about 20k BTC have disappeared from the order book (at least as I write this).
Do you think it's just one major player (possibly a company) buying? Is the withdrawal of funds from Fort Gox via BTC over?
I think it's one major player (probably a company) instigating and maintaining the uptrend to acquire an inventory of bitcoins as cheaply as possible while keeping the price as stable as possible to protect their assets.

This makes no sense. If I was a major player and wanted to acquire bitcoins as cheaply as possible, the last place I'd do it would be on Mt. Gox.

Mt. Gox only has 50% of the volume and the price is 10 -15% higher than on the other exchanges. I'd be buying on the other exchanges that together have just as much volume as Mt. Gox.

The more likely explanation in my view is that some people are worried about their $$ held captive in Mt. Gox and are buying bitcoins to get their money out.
