Just a bit of an update: I reformatted my computer as suggested and everything works now!

I'm not above doing just that, but it'll be a pain to get things running again. Do you figure that I can do a fresh install and then port my files over from a backup, or would that defeat the purpose?

get latest version, if already have, get older version

I've already tried that, but thank you for the suggestion.

Suddenly Unable to Mine

Hi all,

In the past I used GUIminer as a means of accessing my pool of choice and it worked just fine, but I started receiving connection errors in the speed listing and have been unable to mine. After some testing, I suspect that the cause may be more serious than I first suspected. Here's what I have done so far:

Tried new workers in my standard pool
Tried other pools
Attempted alternate workers in said pool
Downloaded CGminer
Attempted to launch CGminer via .bat file
Attempted to launch CGminer via in application prompts
Attempted to launch CGminer via cmd line
Attempted to connect to alternate pools via CGminer
Attempted to connect to alternate workers in pools via CGminer
Downloaded older versions of CG and GUI miners
Yelled at the computer for a bit

I'm getting pretty frustrated with this whole thing. GUIminer doesn't give me a reason for why the wheels are spinning in the mud, and the console shows that it's trying to to connect to the right place with the right information. I can't say as much for CGminer. It just crashes as soon as it attempts to connect to any pool. Exception access violation (c0000005) is thrown and Google has been no help in determining what in blazes is going on. I'd really appreciate any help or insight on the problem.
