i have enjoyed my experience with bitcoin so far. my least favorite thing would be that sometimes it takes too much time for my transactions to be confirmed. but this is not a big problem, i just wish sometimes confrimations would be faster

What are possible scenarios for the block halving?
by
WheatBreadSaid
on 25/09/2015, 17:27:51 UTC
What things could happen with the btc price when the block halving occurs? will the price go down due to miners cashing out? or will the block chain slow down due to miners shutting off their mining equipment? will the price go up because of less daily bitcoin created? what will likely happen?

Re: safe to delete wallet.dat file after keys stored?

Hello. i need help with safely storing btc. Is it safe to delete the wallet.dat file after the private key code has been stored somewhere else? I can not find information on this

Thank You

Yes, however, I would rename it after you close down bitcoin core.  Then open bitcoin core again and try to import your keys.    This way, once you import your keys you can be sure you have everything.   Then it is safe to delete your wallet.dat.

ok i will see if i can import the keys before deleting the wallet.dat file. thank you for the help.

Thank You
Yes. Although it isn't readable without decoding, it only stores your private key. To spend your coin, you need your private key. Do verify if you have copied down your private key properly as you won't be able to spend your coins unless every single of your letters and numbers in the private key are correct.

i will quadruple check to make sure the private key codes are correct. thank you for the answer

mining with a pc seems like it will be too slow for bitcoin mining. i have decided to try mining. i purchased a cheap miner that is slow compared to the other miners out there but it is faster at mining then my pc is. slow miners will not create much btc but really fast miners will create more btc but the problem is fast miners are really expensive.

Re: where do i start bitcoin mining?

Start mining from some Alt coins. Yes! Because, directly mining bitcoin is might be not profitable. So if you're interested in mining try to mine some alt coins. Reffer minergate.

~Rude Boy

can the same btc miners work with alternate coins too?

thank you for the help everybody

i have researched that mining is an very efficient way of earning some btc (bitcoins). where do i start with mining? should i invest in mining in the cloud or mining equpment? which is better?

i wouldn't call mining efficient by any means, with electricity and hardware costs, the profits from mining are marginal at best and is only viable as income with a huge farm. also avoid cloud mining, most are ponzi scams but there are a few legitimate ones out there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=878387.0
this thread should help. If you really want to mine though, purchasing an antminer S5 wouldnt be a bad idea.

most cloud mining are scams? will i still get some btc if i purchase a cheaper miner and mine with that?

Re: Is "Circle" a good place to buy Bitcoin?

thanks for the input. are there dangers with storing btc on your phone?

There are two dangers particular to mobile devices:

1. Losing your bitcoins when you lose, break, or wipe your phone: You must back up your wallet or wallet seed. If you do, then you can always restore your wallet on another phone.

2. Losing your bitcoins through theft of the phone. If your wallet is not encrypted, then somebody can steal your bitcoins by stealing your phone. The wallet must be encrypted and allow access only with a password. If you do that, then nobody can steal your bitcoins.

Do not use a wallet that does not protect against either of these dangers.

oh ok i understand. thanks for the tips. you guys are a lot of help on this forum!

Hello Bitcointalk.org forum. i am new to Bitcoin so i am here to ask all of you a question. Is "Circle" a good website to purchase Bitcoins? Are they legitimate? If i do manage to purchase some Bitcoin where is the best place to keep my shiny new purchased coins?

Thanks everyone

never used circle myself but I have heard a lot of positive feedback from other users. far as i know it's only for US customers which is a shame, maybe I'll get to try them out one day. like odolvlobo said, Electrum is one of the easiest wallets to use. if you download a wallet app for your phone just make sure you don't keep too much btc on there.

thanks for the input. are there dangers with storing btc on your phone?

I have bought a lot of bitcoins from Circle. They are very convenient. The drawback is that you give them direct access to your bank account.

I cannot recommend Coinbase because they track you and they will ban you if they don't like what you are doing with your bitcoins.

As for a wallet, Bitcoin Core is not a great choice. Before using it, you have to download the block chain (which can take days). And every time you start it up, it has to validate its database and sync the block chain (which takes several minutes).

I recommend Airbitz on your phone because it is very easy to use and very secure, and Electrum on your computer.

Thank you for your feedback. you are very right too. the BlockChain is downloading very slowly for me. i was starting to think i did something wrong but then i read your post and now i know its normal. i will checkout AirBits right now too. thank you for the suggestion and thank you for your time.
