Re: Mining/Gaming at same time? [CGminer][6850 HD Radeon]

I have a 6950 and use Guiminer. I was able to play bioshock infinite the other night and mine with no issues, guiminer simply autoscaled my mining back to 150 Mhash/s and  the game ran smoothly. My card was around 70 degrees C though I have a custom cooler. And I've pushed this thing to 80+ degrees with no issues so I'd say there should be no issues, as long as you either manually scale your mining back or let the miner do it for you. On another note, WoW is much less graphically intensive than bioshock so I'd say you can do more than 150 while gaming, albeit it is a slower card so maybe not... Try it and find out Smiley Just watch the temps and make sure you don't bring them too high. Your best off trying to keep it below 90C.

hockey cards is a currency

Hm... I wonder if that definition needs a clause saying it can't be used only to trade with itself, it must be used as a medium of exchange for multiple types of goods :p

Too late for mining it's barely profitable at this point, unless you mine alt-coins. (snip)

Just a couple random thoughts. If it's too late for mining, there are an awful lot of people out there scrambling after the Butterfly Labs and ASIC Miner USB devices. Many people seem to have a different opinion on that point.

Not sure what you mean by alt-coins...you mean Litecoin for example? (Yeah, I'm definitely a newbie.) Would be glad to hear which of the alt-coins people suggest.

Alt-coins are exactly that, alternatives crytocurrencies. So yes, litecoins would be an example. You can see all of the others here. As for mining, in a few short months (maybe more), when ASIC's are more common it will be even more difficult than it is right now to mine with a GPU. If you can get an ASIC early you could do quite well but of course, when a bunch of people have them it'll be just as hard to mine with an ASIC as it is to with a GPU currently. While mining could be profitable for you, it would take quite some time to pay of the equipment you bought as the difficulty rate will just keep rising making your returns less and less. Not to mention electricity, if you're electricity costs a lot that just means that your going to have an even more difficult time paying off that equipment.

13 as of today currently mining at 2 a week. I will convert some USD to buy more, since everyone selling equipment requries BTC payment.

That's pretty good  Shocked What sorta rig(s) are you using for that?

I currently have something around 0.06 bitcoins, been mining off an on for a week again after giving up a few years ago Tongue

I'd love to see some opinions on ZenithCoin. From what I've seen it doesn't have many improvements over bitcoin but as a privacy advocate I love that it mixes the blockchain by default  Grin
