Re: How can I get rid of all my rigs at a decent price?
by

on 31/12/2018, 04:31:07 UTC
I just bought a bunch of 1060 6gb for 75$ because market is so flooded with mining rigs.  If you sell now you will not make much.

It is better to wait for a few months when the mining is recovered from current lows.

Don't forget the good old MUE and Stellar. Both coins have great potential and are worth historically low.
There is a good profit to be made by buying in now.

Stellar is too centralised. BTC or BCH could be better in terms of decentralization.

Re: Dwarf FPGA – the anti-ASIC

We are a group of developers from different countries. After working over the last six months we are ready to present the result - an ecological "green" miner.
Usually, ASICs are designed for “industrial mining” and they are expensive. In addition, these devices threaten decentralization. Changing the mining algorithm involves the risk to not recoup investment.
GPU mining is more flexible but produces a lot of heat and noise. This accelerates global warming and increases the owner's costs. This forms a feud with gamers!  Grin

We have developed an intermediate product. This small device is able to replace one rig and produce 7 kh /  10 W on the v7 and 3.5 kh / 8W on the heavy.

This is very efficient. almost as efficient as the ASIC.

Re: Can any other crypto replace bitcoin?
by

on 18/04/2018, 13:29:36 UTC
In my opinion bitcoin is not just cryptocurrency. Btc is store of value of the market. When btc doing big move most cryptos react on it. And I think it will be the same for the long period of time because btc was first.

The Bitcoin is the store of value. The Bitcoin Cash is the currency.

The price is much lower than I imagined. The big question is, how long would they be using these machines to mine? Is it possible to identify? Cause doubt they were not already using such machines, and are only now passing on to other users.

Also why is it not available in China. It is only sold to the outside China.

Re: Stop mining your ASICS (Avalon 741)
by
Yesterdam
on 18/03/2018, 18:08:37 UTC
It now makes more sense to stop mining your Avalon 741 and just purchase Bitcoin instead.

You would be better off spending the money you would use for electricity to run the miner, and just buy coin instead.

The point of stopping the hardware varies for everyone and is based on:
•   Price of electricity
•   Pool fees
•   Hash rate
•   Bitcoin difficulty

The price of hardware does not factor into this decision to mine or not mine.

I have Avalon 741’s, so my variables are:
•   7.4 ths
•   $.15/USD/ kilowatt Electricity cost
•   2% fee at Slushpool
•   $135/month of electricity burned/month for Avalon 741

The chart below shows that any time the price of Bitcoin drops below $8440, I should turn off the hardware and spend the money saved on electricity to purchase Bitcoin instead.
www.whatotmine.com was used to calculate the prices.

How much bitcoin to buy while the Avalons sit idle?
It works out to around 0.00053318 worth of Bitcoin per day per Avalon. ($135 electricity/$8440 bitcoin breakeven price/30 days in a month).

This ONLY works if you have the discipline to actually buy bitcoin when its below the breakeven point.  Obviously, if you don’t buy, you will miss any rise in price of Bitcoin.

The chart below shows the price to stop based on electricity cost (given the other assumptions).

I just turned off my Avalons.

Can you undervolt your miner? If so, you might still make some profit by making the miner more efficient.

Very high load, it is risky. PSU after using for long loss their power because capacitors dry up

It depends on the quality of the PSU. For the OCZ 1250W, I run it at 70% capacity to get high efficiency.

Re: [2018-01-27] Ethereum is Now “Just” $80 Billion Away From Overtaking Bitcoi
by
Yesterdam
on 28/01/2018, 11:58:30 UTC
$80 billion is not just a mere figure, athough bitcoin may be experiencing some challenges now due to some fundamentals and FUDs coming from different sources once those challenges is surmounted the price will surge upward because bitcoin is more popular than ethereum thus it's market capitalization will increase too.

If the bitcoin cannot scale properly to accommodate the increased trade, people will use the Ethereum or Bitcoin Cash instead. So it is possible the latter two can overtake bitcoin.

Re: What happen to mining profitability?
by

on 09/11/2017, 11:57:59 UTC
At this moment mining ETH is still profitable. The ROI on the other hand is way to high. I do not mine to make a load of money but pure supporting the community. If i wanted to make the load of money in a short peroid of time i would just buy crypto on a exchange. Everyone has a other motive to be in the crypto world. Making a lot of money in a short peroid of time if really hard and many will fail.

It depends on your cards. If it is nVidia 1080, it is better to mine ZEC.
Yes indeed, i wish i had bought nVidia but running all AMD now.

You can use your nVidia for ETH or ETC.

Buying altcoins it is worth, as of now i have a friend on this forum they buying altcoins but i do not know what kind of altcoins they buy. But they tell it is worth buying altcoins when this is have only a low value. If they going to pump the altcoins they buy i thought they have a big profit can get.
It doesn't always end up in a positive note, you'd want to research what you're buying before investing in an Altcoin.

And even the best coins can be unlucky or the team can fall apart. It can be very hard to predict. Best to invest both on some of the established coins and bet some on a few different alts

Its too hard to predict in what altcoins will be going to buy, maybe must better to ask to the people knows what kind of altcoins were going to buy and when exactly will rise the value. I know they have some people here knows about that.

It is better to buy the big cap coins such as bitcoin , bitcoin cash and Eth.

You need to reasearch about the coin you wanna invest.. some coins are pure... shit and some other have the potencial to be something special.. but this is no reason to be fool when you are investing your money you still can lose because the people maybe don't see the same potencial.

Indeed you need to think about the future it has if it has one of course and if the market can be profitable.
So long this is the fact it is worth investing in altcoins if you are asking me.
With a lot of altcoins in the market you cannot just blindly pick what to invest, you need to study them all and also consider the volume, the greater the volume the better as that would prove that people are trusting on their money with such project.
It is a fact that there is a lot of Alternative crypto-currency in the market and choosing one for you to invest is quite a hard to do. So the best thing to do is to find an ICO project where you can earn new altcoin on project through applying on a signature campaign and you need to promote and support the whole project for it to be successful. Then when you earn it depends if it will be successful and if it will be a good ICO you can invest with no capital in a money because you earned it.

That is right. The best altcoin is bitcoin cash now.

I've been reading through this forums for the past few weeks and all I see is "this coin is dead" or "everything is a shit coin". Is there any alt coin with potential to invest in or is it only bitcoin? I don't mean like a few here and there, I mean over 100 coins.
There are many altcoins that is worth it to invest. Nowadays there are many ICO that became successful. So I can say that many altcoins that have potential. I am sure that if you invest there, you can earn big profit.

ICO is too risky at the moment. It is not regulated like the stock mareket.

Only altcoin to buy was Waves. But its too expensive right now.
My other option is Edgeless. Its quite safer than others.

Why do you think it's too expensive ? Don't you think it's worth at least 1 billion market cap ?

Not so easy for it to get 1 billion.

I guess for me its really worth buying a altcoins can really multiply your investment but you need to pick the right altcoins to buy and you need to buy a big volume of it to gain more rebate when you sell it and the most difficult need to hold it for a long time and wait for the price to go up.

Exactly. Just pick the altcoins which are highly supported by their development team and community, and not as a result of hype. There are many coins out there which are hype and pure speculation, making them worthless for your investments.

Nevertheless, if you were to consider good alts to buy, then look no further, as coins like Dash, Monero, and ZCash have a dedicated team and outstanding volumes on the markets. Just my thoughts.  Grin

I think ZCash is a god example, its development team is quite rich.
