Why do people keep saying BTC is dead?!

Because they are a jealous bunch, most of them are butt hurt because they missed the boat and don't have enough money to buy lots of BTC. So they dream about $1 Bitcoin and how they'll buy thousands if that happens.

And people that say it isn't dead are the ones that invested, didn't sell and are butthurt and not selling, saying it will not crash so they can wait for 1K to sell next time.

Re: Turns Out Nobody Wants To Donate To Politicians With Bitcoin

Ron Paul inspired people to come out of the woodwork to donate on the hope that maybe he would have a chance of changing things from the way things are to actually making the government smaller.

It was more of an investment than anything. Since his defeat they are going back to where they sprouted out for and will likely not come back to donate for a long time.

For me, I think we are too far gone to be fixed. So I am planning accordingly.

Ron Paul even has his own cryptocurrency.

anyone who thinks bitcoin has already hit its full potential is delusional.
the market for bitcoin is the entire world, how many people have them? almost none.
anyone who is lucky enough to understand bitcoin today and be in a position to buy it is going to be extremely rich in 20 years.

the current paper money regime is not going to last for much longer, its been collapsing for the past 14 years and is now on life support in the form of permanent zero interest rates.
the only alternatives are precious metals and bitcoin.
i'd like to see you buy something on ebay with gold, bitcoin is the only option for honest money in the modern world.

Sure, paper money will crash, but it may take as long as 2075. Historically, systems as we know it, last for 200 years. The dollar and fiat money could go on for another 50-60 years easily as it crashes. We will not wake up tomorrow and say wow, worldwide money has replaced dollar. It will be extremely casual. Thats why Bitcoin as I see it is just a test for the true worldwide currency that will come in the future. Bitcoin as it is now is too monopolised, so its like 1% vs 99% again.

Re: The negative impact of mining farms
by
YouAreABetaProvider
on 30/10/2014, 15:30:40 UTC
...
You do know that likely the biggest mining company out there, BitFury, sells industrial mining gears to other miners...

I know that KNC, one of the largest companies out there, is

http://s13.postimg.org/g1hik8v3b/Capture.jpg<== click Smiley

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BrxyUeUCUAASNcy.jpg:large

A fraction of one of KNC's megafarms.

if they can pump out so much bitcoins, isnt this a monopoly game in mining.. and its 1 sided to people who have those kind of institutional resources.

That's exactly what it is and the main point of this thread. Somehow, that logic seems to elude a plethora of bitsheep and their perpetual bleating of trying to turn any events surrounding BTC into great news.

- mtgox hacked, millions of $ lost: great news
- centralization of mining: great news
- BTC price crash: more cheap coins
- rampant scamming in BTC: it's the victim's fault
- government regulation: to da moon, best news ever
- illicit marketplaces: drug dealers are like robin hoods of crypto

Now I'm not saying that every news regarding btc is bad. It's just that some people here try to twist everything to look favourable for btc when it's obvious that isn't the case.

Have you not figured it out yet bro? That is because they have a financial gain in making suckers believe that. Bitcoin isn't all its cracked up to be. I have traded thousands of coins and spent countless hours studying. Its bullshit. Brg444 is the kinda retard that laps it up. Its not about real change but personal gain.

Absolutely. It was always a monopoly, first, the mining monopoly, then, the lucky investors monolopy. So we have KnC being the monolopy of the mining, and retards that have no idea what they are doing but found themselves on wealth by pure chance (basically all early investors, if somebody tells you when they invested bitcoin would hit 1K dollars, they are lying to you). Of course they will never accept it was luck, they will ramble from "skill" to "god wanted it to be like that" and so on. These guys usually become sort of gurus around here and tell other people to keep believing because they will be millonaires too if they wait enough (remember all these dumb failed predictions by rpietila?). It's a classic pyramidal scheme.
Sure, Bitcoin's technology is great, but greed of these that become very wealthy and the desperation of the 99% to become wealthy as well to scape the rat race, ruin everything as always. The system is fucked and no kind of currency can save it. We need a Resource Based Economy and worldwide education on science.

I'm waiting for BTC to crash to less than $50 so I can buy back in!

LOL. Just woke up and making coffee so I'm too lazy to post skeleton-at-keyboard image.

You could post another skeleton-at-keyboard image in relation to waiting for a new ATH tho.

Re: Take a step back. Do the right calculations. Then stop panicking.
by
YouAreABetaProvider
on 30/10/2014, 15:18:22 UTC
There was a bloke on here a while back who panic sold all his BTC at 400 as the money was meant for his honeymoon, and he had lost a lot.
People commiserated with him for having to sell at the bottom of the market (at the time).
Seems like quite a good price nowadays.

It's all relative. Some one who panic sold at $1,000 in December 2013 would now be an investment hero, being able to buy back three times as many coins as they sold, as the value of the dollar has gone through the roof (in BTC terms).

But then someone who panic sold a few months before at $100 would look like a right muppet.

You have to think about the now tho. He could enjoy a great time now, or hope that Bitcoin survives this horrible crash and maybe have a good time.. when is 60 years old, that is if you make it that far because you dont die from an accident, illness, or world goes to hell in a ww3 scenareo before.
Long term gains can be good but the wait is so damn depressing. If I had 400 BTC I would have sold at least 100 by now, too bad I only have one so i'll die poor.

Bitcoin is  also the first real WORLDWIDE currency. The previous currencies covered more limited areas...
This is not true. The dollar has been a worldwide currency for decades as many countries will only accept dollars and many others will accept it in addition to their local currency, while others will accept it but only unofficially.

The same was true with the British pound prior to the fall of the British Empire.

The same is not true for bitcoin as of now, although this may (at least in theory) change in the future

We are headed towards a worldwide currency, but I doubt it will be Bitcoin.

Re: Was Bitcoin actually just a Pump and Dump?
by
YouAreABetaProvider
on 30/10/2014, 14:40:48 UTC
I don't have any doubt that this was all just big pump and dump, but my theory is, even the BTC creators didn't realize that Bitcoin would go this far.

Everything is literally a big pump and dump, life itself its. Now, was this an intended, scammy p and d? nope. Bitcoin was always a legit genuine project. People gave it an insane value out of nowhere, they decided it was 1K a coin, now it's crashing. Will people re-gain trust? We'll see. My opinion is yes, because people will start lossing trust in institutions.

Just updated the official bootstrap

Download http://www.bitstarcoin.com/bootstrap.dat
Backup your wallet
Delete everything apart from wallet.dat, and config (if you have one) from your %appdata%/bitstar
copy bootstrap.dat into %appdata%/bitstar
restart wallet

Edit: Very important ... Make sure your on the current wallet

i followed these instructions. I opened my wallet 20 minutes ago and it's still at the orange Bitstar wallet loading screen. It says it is importing the bootstrap blockchain data file. how long does should this take?
It takes quite long but it's faster than loading from online. I have done it several times. Just wait patiently. You can go watch %appdata%\bitstar to see it progress. There are two files that grow in size. Don't remember them now.

Well, it seems like it's not validating anything, it seems like it's downloading stuff, its really slow.

I've had a similar problem where the wallet wouldn't sync and it's stuck at like half the way to go. Nothing works, I have it encrypted and opened, I reopened it, I got fed up and deleted the blockchain (blk0001.dat and blkindex.dat). It has downloaded again about half the blockchain and is stuck at 44%. My balance says 0.000 now. Fuck my life. The firewall and whatnot is not blocking incoming connections, i have 12+ active ones.
