Question: Is the wallet currently taking small amounts of every transaction and sending it to the charity address, or has that been disabled?

I believe for the Windows and Linux wallets it goes to whatever address Costas put in there (see above) -- the Mac wallet which is a straight re-compile with a few fixes to get it to actually build includes the https://doabitofgood.com/bit4bit address included.

Whatever automatic donation function is included is at Costas' direction IMHO.

If you want one that doesn't do it, I'm sure we could figure it out.

-dvd

If you want one that doesn't do it??

This is a CHARITY coin. The automatic donation with every transaction is the whole point, so there should NOT be a wallet that does not have the feature built in. Otherwise the coin has no point to it whatsoever.

LOL -- REALLY?  Of course it's a charity coin -- but don't you think people should be able to set or control WHERE that donation is made?

What you should ACTUALLY be concerned about is whether or not charities can obtain any value from it?

This coin, just like every other coin, MUST SOLVE A PROBLEM to be relevant.

Bittrex: The perpetually perilous position proves my point perfectly (say that 3x fast)

WHO EXACTLY is buying the coin?  And for what purposes?

No, I don't think you should be able to decide to change the whole concept of the coin. The whole point was that there would be one central charity wallet which receives a 0.1% automatic donation from every transaction, and that those funds would periodically be sold for BTC to donate to water charities, thus putting the coins back into circulation to enable them to raise more funds. Which I think is a great concept, and we finally have a stable and working wallet which does just that.

This coin, without that feature, is not a charity coin. It is just a coin named after a cause. The use and circulation of the coin would provide no guaranteed charitable donations, just like any other coin. I posted a link a while back to a news story about Doge being donated to a water charity. You can use any coin you like to donate to charity FFS. You ask should people be able to "set and control" where the donation is made? They can - by donating directly to whatever charity they choose, in Dollars or Pounds or Yen or BTC or LTC or whatever they like. By choosing to support CWC they are consciously making the choice to support the water charities that this coin is affiliated with. (Through the official Not for Profit organisation that was set up for just that purpose.)

The real problem is that much more promotion and exposure is needed to get the coin talked about and used. We need some companies who are willing to accept CWC as payment, we need facebook campaigns, we need a faucet, we need the official website to be updated ASAP, we need the official exchange (as described on the official website) to be set up. etc. etc. etc.

It has taken long enough to get the wallet sorted out and working correctly so I really don't think there should be any thought about removing features which are intrinsic to its whole concept. I have messaged Zach and he tells me he has moved recently and has been without internet - he works at a marketing and design company ( www.brightoak.com ) so I look forward to his amazing marketing plans which I really hope he will share here with us all shortly.

Don't worry MeadowView - doabitofgood.com IS offline. If you wait a while, CloudFlare may load a saved 'snapshot' of the site if you're lucky. But the website is definitely offline at the moment.

The 192.168.1.87 address you quoted looks like your computer's IP address for your local network, the one you have in your home between your router and all the gizmos that connect to it like your TV, laptop, phone etc - this allows your router to differentiate between it and other devices that are directly connected together within your private network. Your router's IP address is usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 depending on the make of your router. I suspect your router is on 192.168.1.1 - If you type this into your web browser you should get into your router's settings and options page.

You can find out what your public IP address is - which identifies your computer to the rest of the internet, by simply asking Google - just type "What is my IP address?" into the search bar.

Zach - where have you gone?? Now that everything works why has it all gone quiet here?

It seems such a shame to let this coin quietly die after all the effort that went into getting the wallet working properly. Interest has dwindled to virtually nothing on Bittrex and the buy book currently has less than 0.4BTC worth of orders in it.

Are you working on any plans for marketing/promotion to raise awareness and get some interest back? If so, please share them and let us know if we can do anything to help?

The official website is severely lacking at the moment and needs some serious editing. Just a few point off the top of my head:

1) Still no link to download the wallet as far as I can see. Not everyone surfs ANN forums to get the latest wallet download.

2) Coin is still stated as being POW+POS when it is now pure POS

3) The section talking about ad space references the wallet having advertising space on it - is this feature going to be added back into the wallet soon? If not, get rid of that section on the site.

4) "Mine at Pools" section - needs to be removed.

5) "Clean Water Faucet - Coming Soon" - how soon? It has been SIX MONTHS FFS

6) "BTC to WATER exchange - Coming Soon" - see number 5.

7) "Register for our monthly newsletter" - I registered months ago and have not received a single newsletter. Have any been sent out?

Just updated that a bit Smiley

It's been a week now since your last post, can you let us know what plans are in action for promotion and marketing please? Bittrex trading has dwindled to virtually zero, we need to raise awareness ASAP.

interesting how you register your company in the U.K to an address which you have probably never been to!

You also only sell the card top ups in dollars, why is this? why not use GBP?

who would want to take GBP for anything? Everything British is trash including their hygiene and physical appearance. How about those disgusting teeth? Too many years of inbreeding... *SMH*

Hmm, this coming from an American. Just proves that Alanis Morissette isn't the only one that doesn't know the real meaning of irony.

Squeal Piggy.

I was wondering if there are any plans currently in action for promotion and marketing? The wallet seems nice and stable now and we are back up and running on Bittrex but there is very little interest being shown. This does not surprise me given the litany of problems that have had to be overcome in the past 5 months. Zach, please can you give us an outline of what is planned now that the basics are at last in place?

Seriously though, we need to get charities like water.org involved and using WATER - how about a tipbot that we can use to promote to the supporters of water charities like this one?

Haha, thanks for the link YouIsPeng.

Bittrex removed the "market in danger of delisting" sign, so the wallet will probably soon be activated again.

Bittrex Wallet is active again woo hoo!

Now that the wallet is stable, will MintPal be listing WATER soon? Zach, have you spoken to them recently? Is their promise to list us once the wallet is fixed still valid?

Even though CWC should be driven by the community, I'd still like to see more frequent updates and some long-term plans for CWC.

iirc, isn't Matt Damon big on the forefront forefront of a clean water charity organization?

Would be awesome if someone as profiled as him would tweet about CWC, as BTC holders are an "untapped"(?) source of charity-money for clean water.

Of course, I have a decent amount of CWC atm. Regardlessly, I'm still thinking of ways to assist CWC for the greater good.

Focusing on charity, and showing some results is the only way the coin will take-off. (Obviously - Doh)

+1

Zach Mettra (founder of Clean Water Coin) works at a Marketing and Design firm so I'm sure he has many plans for promotion of WATER. Hopefully he'll be sharing them with us soon!

Matt Damon is the co-founder of water.org - a recent viral video the "Ice Bucket Challenge" has been raising awareness which you can see here;

Well the expected dump is going strong now we're back on Bittrex - I've picked up some nice cheap WATER from the fleeing fools  Smiley Still a much bigger sell order book than buy though, hopefully it will settle down soon.

As we are at last back on an exchange can Zach give us an idea of future plans please?

- What marketing and promotion is planned? To get interest back I think we need a huge effort with social media, giveaways, editorials etc to get the price back up to where it belongs (WATER was being traded at 200 plus satoshi at the beginning before all the wallet problems)

- Are Mintpal still likely to list WATER? We did win the listing vote and as I remember we were promised that they would list us as soon as the wallet was stable?

I'm having a different issue with the new wallet. I have a zero balance.... It's completely synced and I see all transactions but it shows zero balance... I should have 200k+....

here's one transaction:
Status: 108674 confirmations
Date: 9.5.2014 г. 14:51
From: unknown
To: 5TFUcwUjys9jv8dnWMPNTmugSPWsLxHPrY (own address)
Credit: 175504.80 WATER
Net amount: +175504.80 WATER
Transaction ID: a76a47e1394c486ea6579739deb5afaf6c0ebb2f33756a4d602f925176d47472

It's from bittrex dunno why its unknown.

edit:
checked my balance with the explorer
http://explorer.cleanwatercoin.org/a/5TFUcwUjys
all coins accounted for... just not showing in the wallet... still says 0.00 balance (0.00 stake 0.00 unconfirmed 0.00 WATER)

This might help - shut down the wallet, move your wallet.dat out of the roaming folder to a safe place then delete everything else in there.

Restart the wallet and allow the blockchain to download from scratch (will take a while.)

Once the wallet is synced, shut it down, replace your wallet.dat in the roaming folder then restart the wallet.

Go to the debug console (Help->Debug Window->Console) then type "checkwallet" and it will tell you if there are any mismatched coins compared with the blockchain.

If it does not say "true" then type "repairwallet" and this should retrieve any coins not showing.

We've come an incredible distance in a very short time!

5 months is not a short time. We have lost all the momentum that this coin should have had from the start - we were promised a massive marketing and social media promotion campaign which has been put on hold indefinitely because of this enormous wallet debacle.

I agree with YouIsPeng that more design and testing should be conducted.  Its something we're hoping to bring to the table with the lab we're setting up.

The reality for most coinbases is that its a volunteer effort -- performed largely "between the rain drops" and often by one individual.

Those of us that have been here since the launch will remember that this coin was launched with an IPO and 26 BTC were invested by supporters such as myself. Those funds were supposed to pay for the development of the coin and production of a working wallet, ie to pay a developer, not for a "volunteer" to dabble with the wallet in his spare time. 2 BTC of that was donated to charity leaving 24BTC which equates to approx. $12,000 and I for one would like to know where that has gone. If a developer is being paid to produce working software there are no excuses for a properly tested, fully working wallet to fail to materialise in a timely fashion.

I will concede that the latest wallet to be trundled out looks very pretty but as far as I can see the differences are purely cosmetic. I would much prefer to have kept the old wallet design and concentrated on making the thing work properly than on having fancy graphics. As people STILL seem to having problems with syncing and checkpoint errors I would like to ask if there have been any changes made other than the look of the thing? We also seem to have completely lost the banner advertising space on the wallet which was part of the original big idea - has that now been abandoned??

Yes, Clean Water Coin is a non-profit organisation, but its whole concept is based on the coin having value. If there is no exchange or way to trade then how is the coin supposed to keep its value at a decent level? Unless the coin has value then all the charity donations and trading fees in the world will amount to pennies and do nobody any good at all. This is why we have to be able to demonstrate to Bittrex that the wallet and coinbase are stable and working ASAP.
