As much as I think it's the currency of the future, I do worry about keeping lots of money in a system that relies on network accessability and electricity. Maybe it's the dommsday prepper in me but I like to diversify my investments into BTC, Alt-coins, gold/silver, cash and things I can use to be more self sufficient today and in the future (solar/wind, etc). I don't wanna be that guy around the fire saying 'I was a millionaire until they flipped the switch". I might be being dramatic, but think about it.

Any thought on helping with the efficiency (even a little) by utilizing Peltier modules to turn waste heat into power (ever if enough to power a fan). I know it woun't be much and possibly negative as far as cost vs savings for a long time. I have a few modules lying around to experiment with on other projects and could provide some data if needed.

Nice work. I'll give this a try for my old gridseed 5 chip as a test/for fun. I think I tried it before for BTC, but might be worth setting up for LTC aswell.

Is there any current Australian Groupbuys or Official Resellers?
Looking to get back into some hardware (low scale fun stuff). I remember there used to be an Aussie on here, I think in Melbourne a number of years ago. If there are any reliable/official resellers of current equipment around that could be recommended that would be great.
I use Coinigy on my laptop. There is a free trial. I am on monthly at $19/month. I day trade on Poloniex and most of the time (for the last month), it has worked well. I definitely set alerts and usually do my orders from Coinigy as well though I have Polo open too and go back and forth when necessary.

It might be an interesting service to provide a pre-pruned data directory for those that want to use Bitcoin Core but don't want to use up the necessary bandwidth to synchronize from the beginning.
Doing so would probably open up significant attack vectors since the user would need to trust that they were getting a valid blockchain, UTXO, and config file, but if a reliable trustworthy source could be found it would significantly speed up the process and reduce the bandwidth of starting up Bitcoin Core as a wallet.

Maybe you can offer such a download? You should sign it with your PGP key and upload it somewhere.
But IMO it would just be easier for people to use an SPV wallet.
I'm sure I could do an SPV wallet like Multibit etc. At the moment I have a lottery USB stick running on a solopool and wouldn't mind for fun/redundancy having the full blockchain local as a fallback and solo completely local except network connection. I'm definetely a hobbyist and such a long time away.

You're terminology is incorrect, what you're asking about is Voltage auto sensing, not switchmode.
Ya. 'Switch-mode' refers to how the power is controlled. It is chopped on-off very fast and the average on-time determines power out. Very efficient. Often used for DC regulators but also applies to AC systems eg a dimmer switch.
The other way to to it is using Linear control. Very clean output but bulky and not efficient as the voltage difference between the DC feed supply and output is directly impressed across power transistors and dissipated as heat.
My bad! That's what happens when you have a few too many beers. I was meaning if the AC input side of these (I think I read that the powersupplies are included) are both !10V and 240V either with a physical switch or accept AC input voltages in the 100-240VAC range.

The miners look to be made well and the current one I have is hashing at almost 6.5Th. The fact that these can be used on 110v power since they only use 900 watts or so is a bonus. power requirements are 6x 6-pin PCIe power connectors (3 for each board) and my killawatt shows around 1000 watts, but you cant use my numbers as they only way I could power this with 110v (in order to use my killawatt) was to use 2 power supplies (1 for each hashing board). So true power usage with 1 power supply should be closer to the 900 watts.

I have been holding on to all of my S1 and S3 miners just for the purpose of upgrading. I think we are getting close!Yeah I just fired up my last S1 and even added the wifi connection. Really hoping one day to get it running again with new guts.

lightfoot - this is a long shot, but have to happened to come across any Cairnsmore1 boards or Ztex that you have nursed back to health? If so I would be interested in buying a few for another non-mining purpose.

I've just gotten back into BTC. Is there a way to get the blockchain in a compressed form rather than spend the full 100GB on my data? I suffer from slow speeds and bad bandwidth caps in my part of Australia. Is there another solution? Or do I have to bite the bullet?
